hey everyone im calico im new to this i spearfish in brighton i wanna get some new fins any recomendations.

Hi Calico, welcome to db.
You can find pages & pages of info on db if you use the search button at the top of the page. You could also say hello on the main forum page under Introductions and Greets & ask the same question but at lot of members will recommend Omer ice fins as they are a perfect spearfishing fin.

kk thanks for that i dont want to spend £120 cause it quite expencsive could you recommend any cheaper but good fins cheers

Go for full footpockets with changable blades. Cheaper ones have the blades made of plastic as do the Omer Ice. However except for the Ice fins the other cheaper plastic fins have a habit of breaking. The Omer Ice have a 3 year guarantee. More expensive fins have blades made of glassfibre of carbon.

This is a good place to look https://www.apnea.co.uk/index.php?cPath=1_27 and you can use the search button to look for different fins.

Hello Calico , welcome to db . If you need some to be going on with , i have a pair of mares full foot fins size 9.5 -10.5 ( my feet are 9 and they fit ok ) . Based on avanti quattro scuba fins with a flexible mid panel , they provide good propulsion , a bit longer than quattros not as long as say cressi gara's , i used them for two seasons so a bit scuffed now . Anyway if they are your size and you want them they're yours , if not maybe someone else does .

thanks everyone for your help it has been very helpfull and i really appreciate it has any one been out latley and whats about?

calico

Calico they're yours , soon as i get to the post office ( tomorrow ? ) . Don't think it costs much to send so you can buy me a pint when i come down to Brighton instead ! Better still you can tell me somewhere to park for fishing the pier that doesn't cost £6 , are they trying to get enough money to coat the pier in gold leaf or something ?

hey thanks for that hear is a link for some free parking spaces about 10 mins from palace pier.

Streetmap.co.uk- search results

you can park in jersey, grove, holland, quebec street, they are at the top of the map picture that i sent you, sorry could not find a way to mark it on the map, if you cant find it let me know.

Too cold, too dirty, usally starts again at the end of March. ( for the very brave with good wetsuits)

I heard we get some big early season Bass on the Sussex coast , is this true ? Please tell me it's true , and if it is how early are they ? Do you get them in close for a shore dive or further out and need a boat and where do you get them ? Sorry for all the questions but I've started dreaming about fish and need to get back in the water soon ! (did snorkel with Whalesharks in Tanzania which was amazing but you can't eat them , well maybe Podge could )

As an update on the diving, some friends went out on saturday ( the first dive of the year for them) and had about 6-8foot viz on the bottom whilst diving a local wreck. That said they described it as very wintery with only a few small wrasse about.

kev

i remeber i went out last year begining of march and viz must of been about at least 2 to 3 maybe 4 meters and i saw nuffin not even a wrasse it was terrible but very clear calico

10 out of 10 for effort guys , been looking at the web cam , doesn't look inviting . Please keep us landlocked wusses informed !

yeah we only went on that one day, was nice and clear and calm, but is got all choppy now which is annoying, almost spring though!!!

I think ill leave the water testing for u jwells ,the fish will disapear soon until after about may time, well as far as rod fishing goes they seem to disapear maybe the od flounder about, at the end of April an algae plume covers the coast until about june and fish become very scarce , but if im wrong and there are fish earlier please let me know cause i cant wait to get back in the water.

Don't be fooled by the cold water, March/April/May are usually very good for big bass and flat fish. It is fare to say that May Bloom will kill it for a while but sometimes it doesnt last too long.
