thank you all for your kind words. i was having a hard time believing that my actions were someting not to be proud of. i will eventually try freediving, but i want to get used to spearing and rig diving in my area first. i thank you all for understanding that spearing is new to me and that i enjoy scuba and am not opposed to freediving in the future. it seemed that some people were bashing me for spearfishing on scuba instead of freediving while spearfsihing. the fact is, i just dont feel comfortable doing that yet. maybe in the future. believe me, those first 2 dives, i blew most of my air on 2 fish on each rig! on the third dive i became more comfortable with my equipment and got 7 more fish. if i were trying to freedive that rig, it would be too much of a challenge for me. thanks for your understanding. new spearfisherman, big c.

stringer

dear spearoo

you were right about stringing the fish on the cable. i was having alot of trouble getting the fish off of the shaft and onto the stringer. that is one reason that i only shot 2 fish on the first 2 dives. on the third dive, i decided to string one fish, and slide the others down the shaft and let them dangle on the cable. it seems that i need practice stringing fish. i have no doubt that i will have it mastered next time out. i have heard stories of divers coming up with triggers attatched to their calf. they say that they are like pit bulls and wont let go ontil you pry them off. thanks for your tip about stringing. big c.
