Two different statements there. The rust seat in your first pic. How thick is it? If a spear locked in, it it wide enough to keep the shaft from spinning. Because if the shaft spins, it will push the sear and release the shaft.

Second, if it does rotate, but it locks in, then you could have Ray weld tabs onto a shaft of the type that works.

Hey whopper, I dont think that one picture is a walleye. Looks like a perch mate. If it were a walleye its eyes would be cloudy, and its fins would have white tips. But thats just based on the picture.

It's a Walleye for sure...Seen bazillions of 'em up close and personal..Definately a "Stizostedion vitreum" or WALLEYE in other words!

Good luck in gettin' your Balco Sub in working order...But first you need to be able to tell the difference between a Perch and a Walleye!

It was a walleye- fo sho. It was about 22" long and I knew it was a walleye. I'll have it in the video- you can get a better look then.

Wow, Dotey 16!!! Whopperhead better watch his back... (No shooting your brother jokes intended rofl) Thats strange. There was a "mating formation" of walleye in one of my favorite early year lakes. Whether its still there now who knows. The picture is from the top so who knows, also fish can be really different from lake to lake, not to mention that far south. Around here walleyes are all one color, and have pure white fins, with milky eyes. Ill post a picture for you guys.

I just got back from the Outlet- I needed to get wet and it had the calmest water.

Vis was around 10'-15' and the water is WAY up- kind of fun as it changed the look of the place with all of tat extra real estate to swim over.

Water temp was a balmy 66F so I got to use my 3mm for the first time this year. It was also flat calm and I only saw one other fisherman out there moving very slowly in his fancy boat.

I also ended up using my Hawaiian sling with shooting line for the first time- and it doth rock!:inlove I am now thinking of selling off the spear guns before they get too dusty. It turns out that a sling will send a shaft right through the bone plate of a carp's skull.:martial

There were bluegills every where- i mean hundreds of the buggers. There were also bluegill nests everywhere- like I've never seen before. You could swim and swim and still be over nests. I didn't shoot any because they are all hatching out eggs, but it was cool to see- should have had the camera with me.:head

I also saw more darn carp than I've seen in along time. the things were everywhere- even swimming right into my ICE fins as I lay on the bottom. If Whopperhead had been there wit his truck I could have shot dozens of them. Since he wasn't I just shot the one and let the rest live another day.

There were also lots of drum everywhere I went. some of them were pretty good size, but nothing wanted to eat. I did see one good sized musky and one small perch. i looked for more perch, but he was the only one.

What I did NOT see were crappie- not a single one. The weeds are up, but not to the surface, and there's plenty of places for them to hide. I swam through the weeds, over the beds, and out into deeper water, but still never saw a single one.

I did find a really nice anchor- couldn't have been down more then a week or so. It's now sitting in my garage. ;0

I'm not sure hoe the rest of the lakes are fairing, but this was better than I thought it would be after all the nasty weather we had. I imagine that things should be shaping up pretty well by this weekend.

Most of the crappies have spawned by now and are headed for deeper water.The carp are ready but the cold water has slowed them I believe. The gills seem to be finishing up in the early beds. Went shallow yesterday and got a wiff of things to come. (hope Im wrong}. I cant believe the vis hope this flooding flushed all the crap out.

I was out biking around the lakes with the kids today and the water was up everywhere. It was also pretty darn clear and you could see tons of fishing swimming around it in everywhere we stopped and looked.

They predict a bad year for blue green algae, but then they also said the high water would destroy the vis- and that hasn't happened yet. I think that since they are calling this the 100 year flood that no one really knows whats going to happen.

Blue-green algae, (actually a type of cyano bacteria,) is bad news, but what it really means is the lake you are diving in is dirty, and stagnent. Disgusting!

I'm willing to bet the city shoreline was clean today because all the crud made it to the windward side today. Squaw Bay was green and the river had something I have never seen before on the water. lots and lots of little individual colonies of Cyano and they were not attached to anything. Thats right just flourishing on go old water. Lots and lots of them ewwww! i hope this isn't a foreshadow. Fishing was good but the Purell ran out

Ive dealt with this stuff in fishtanks, and now with the DEP. Its nasty stuff, and can be toxic.

 

[Whopperhead]

Gave the OUTLET a go today. INSANE!!!! I've never seen so many carp in my life! And the Bluegills are spawning strong. It was like a Giant Orgy out there. The Carp would swim into Jon's spear tip - Crazy. I was mainly out there to shoot some nice Perch and Crappies. I was Able to get 1- 12.5" Crappie and 2 med sized Perch. I also shot 2 carp. The Biggest being 39lbs and 37.5" long still not big enough. I shot another Carp that had an enormouse Belly! Vis wasn't the best- but better than I thought it would of been. about 10' and water temp was 68 degrees. Will post pics of my carp when I get them from Jon.

Jon is a Feen with that Sling! Look out! he kills carp with it- Awesome.

EDIT: I saw the common carp going crazy on the Bluegill Beds. Looked like they were eating their eggs. Death to Carp.

man jon you have to be the most carzy s.o.b i have ever met i mean come on a sling and carp i would try it if i had my spear back but i sem to have lost mine i shot a gill last time out and well it went right through it and into the weeds i didnt have a stringer on it :head but that takes some skill

Here's some of the fish that we got.

I ended up with 6 perch, one was pretty good size, and a couple of small crappie. Scott got one really nice sized crappie that i didn't get a picture of.

I have never seen so many carp, or bluegill, in my life. The bluegills where everywhere- but we didn't shoot any. carp were swimming so close you could hear then swim by underwater- swoosh!

Time to go back out there today, with the truck, and thin the heard a little bit. We'll post pictures later.

Slingin' carp...Thats awesome! I've pole speared a few but using a sling is just plain cool!

BTW - Jon and Whopp, Whatever you guys decide as far as getting the "cyrano" to me will work. If I'm not home my wife will be. I should have the cash in a few days! Much appreciated...Both of you guys! Or I could come to Mad City or even have my Bro pick it up for me on the way here from Richland Center...No worries!

I'm heading out to Lake Geneva in a bit - Still searching for "The Big One!" Guys have been seeing some very large carp but are telling me they are usually only singles or doubles. So I guess I gota be "on my toes" if I'm gonna get a shot off at one!

Can't wait to see Jon "slingin" on a vid...Sooner or later we might all be finnin' around with a 2 dollar chunk of wood and killin' fish with it!

Hit the Outlet today with Jon, dotey and his cousin JR. The algea bloom hit and the Vis Sucked! I was determined to get some carp though. We had to go out to at least 12' of water and dive to the bottom and wait for about 30 seconds for the carp to come swimming in. Vis was about 3' on top and about 8 feet on the bottom. The deeper you went the better the vis. Water temp was 70-71 degrees. I ended up with 20 carp which gives me 103 rough fish for the year- so far. Would be a different story if we had the vis we had yesterday. The OUTLET is pretty much done for the year or at least till Nov.

Ha....Now you guys HAVE to come down this way! Carp are not as easy to come by around here.

I only spent about an hour in Lake Geneva today and then the lightning bolts started flashing! I was outta there quickly then! But as soon as I got home SUNSHINE again !:head

I did'nt see any fish worth spearing except big 'gills on the beds...But none were big enough to tempt me!
