Today's catch

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Jeremy, you are master of spearfishing!!!
You have awesome spearfishing days... keep share photos and stories with us, I enjoy reading them.

You're too kind Outdoor mne - I think I'm just lucky to be in a really good place for it! I'm learning all I can though and working on my breath hold. I have to leave the island for a couple of months on Wednesday which is sad - I'm going to miss being in the water!

So not much spearfishing since i lost my 90 gun, finally took the courage to bring out the 120 today even if the gun isnt really optimal for the current conditions(6-8meters viz).

I've always had alot of missed shots with this gun before, while the 90 has been dead accurate. But today but today i got a good hang of the aim with it.
I finally have some hope and feel that i can withstand the waiting time for the new shoregun lol.

Now im gonna have one days rest and after that i will head out again, would be logical to use this gun as much as possible now and get used to it when i have no other choice since this is the gun i will use for the outer islands/reefs for the Mackerels, cobia and GT's.

Bonus pic on the current gear im using

Epic Okis,
Looks like you've been busy! I've traveled to England for the holidays so no chance to get in the water for some time now and it won't be possible to hunt again until April because of a seasonal ban that we have on St Helena. I shall have to focus on my breath hold! Do keep posting the pics and stories though. What are the long thin fish? They must be hard to hit... How big are they? Are they good to eat?

Havent been out much lately because the monsoon refused to leave so we got a few extra weeks of bad weather. Today it cleared up and it was without a doubt the best viz i've experienced in the spot i went too.

Didnt head out until 2-3pm so just got a few hours before sunset.

Only found a smaller grouper and some coraltrouts, but i got my very first octopus! Pretty big one!

The moment i tried to grab its head was the moment i realized i'm actually afraid of these suckers. As soon as it started goin for my arm with the tentacles i totally panicked and resurfaced. Tried to get it up while pulling the monoline but there was no way that was goin happend since it hanged on to the reef.
Took me 15 minutes and 4-5 stabs between the eyes to get it up and in the middle of everything my right ear started being a bitch and refused to equalize.. hahaha.....

Nice going - that octopus looked like a monster! I'm not a fan either I have to be honest. Also, I don't like eating them so I haven't shot any. I'm still in the UK and having to endure all the pictures on FB of my friends and their wahoo hunting exploits. It looks like they're having a blast!

Was out for a few hours today. Missed a shot on a big grouper(groupers are my nemesis, i always miss shots on them while they are static, shots i usually never miss on other species lol), got me two decent coraltrouts and a smaller 800 grammer. The smaller one ended up being my after-dive lunch at the local beach restaurant.

Spearfishing and diving never stops to suprise me, today it even ended up helping me get a girls phonenumber

Epic - nice going Okis. That lobster looks delicious and the trout are not too shabby too! I know what you mean about grouper - they psyche me out the way they turn and stare.

I'm back on the island now but spearfishing ban until March to let some local fish spawn. Water is crystal clear though and the whale sharks are about so freediving paradise..!

Seems like the thread needs a revive so i will share some of my catches the past 1-2 months!

Some pics from yesterday. Not much great catches and i had a striped trevally come off the spear even if it was a good placed shot just behind the sidefin and the flopper working properly.

Did however shoot my very first red snapper, not big but enough for one dinner.
