Training diary for 81m CWNF

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Hi Frank,
I haven't taken either of the drugs: they are sitting in my fridge, and will probably stay there. The list of possible side-effects put me off as much as the fact that they are dopes.
I would be extremely surprised if I have any kind of mineral or fat deficiency or am still dehydrated. I can taste the salt in my saliva, and I am taking multivitamins as well as 10g spirulina and a balanced diet, which should cover most things...
Blood pressure when last measured was 100/60, but bear in mind that this was post-prandial, so when I wake up, or before lunch (the two times of the day when I might dive) my BP would have to be 90/50 or lower. My normal resting HR is between 48-54, but at the moment it is no less than 72, and is usually in the 80's.
This morning was a clean and comfortable 72m (no sign of hypoxia on exit), but the low BP played havoc with the psychology of the dive, making me turn early when I meant to go to 76m...
Thanks for all the input, Will.

I'm glad that dives are becoming better.

The values you wrote are not as low as I thought. As you mentioned your thoughts can play with all your body.

The relative Tachycardia you are experimenting, for me, is an indicator that this blood pressure can be low for you.

Dehydration and specially chronic dehydration can be overlooked. Try to increase the liquids and specially rehidration salts to see the effect.

another explanation is ischemia-reperfusion syndrome that can explain both tachycardia and low blood pressure. Had you feel flu-like symptoms?.

Good luck

Hi Will,

If the meds do constitute doping, then you probably want to get them out of your fridge and out of your possession asap......

All the best on the dives over the coming days.

Will,

Could it not be as simple as stress-induced low BP? I've seen this a lot at competitions, Eric suffered from it, and Mandy-Rae is famous for it.

Perhaps a change of approach might help. Go deeper but make training attempts less often. How many times have record hopefuls run themselves down during the two or three weeks before the record? Many have.

Hope you figure it out and good luck on your upcoming dives.

Pete

Hi -

Hope your symptoms resolve soon, and continued good wishes for your training and pursuits. I was just wondering - have you experienced this kind of thing in the past? I was re-reading the earlier posts, and while unlikely, have your MDs ruled out chronic fatigue syndrome / adrenal insufficiency? Just asking out curiosity/concern, regretably not expertise (sorry).

Best and cheers, maytag

I have low BP and high resting HR. There isn't any obvious reason, but I do get tired very easily. I would be interested if anyone discovers anything.

Good luck with your training

Lucia

The entry for October 15 can be found on my website www.verticalblue.net in the 'news' page.
The possibility of adrenal insufficiency was the basis for the AA dietologist prescribing ACTH. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is possible but practically undiagnosable. No flu-like syumptoms, so ischemia reperfusion is out. Stress-induced low BP is definitely part of the problem, but I had never imagined it could be this severe. Also during the May attempt I didn't experience any of these symptoms.
Andy - I will give the drugs back to Lotta when she comes down next week (they weren't to be found in Sharm, and she had them sent down by taxi). If I get rid of them someone might think I've taken them after all!
Cheers, William.

Hi Will, Good luck with your upcoming attempt...Having visited a couple of the hotels in Sharm I know the food isn't that great for a diving diet. Don't know if you eat a small breakfast before your dives or not but some salt may help raise the bp a bit.

safe dives and looking forward to the updates.

It´s good to know that despite the BP and cardiac frequency, your getting confident again. Maybe, if you don't check pressure neither cardiac frequency before the dive, the psychological pressure will be less.

I wish you successful dives

Hi Will, I don't know if you are have dive profiles or not but if you do, do you mind posting them? Also, how tall are you and what's your arm span? fingertip to fingertip?

My height is 1.85m, but I have no idea what my arm span is. It is not however disproportionate to my body size (neither t-rex nor orangutang). I wear the size 9 Pflex.
Cheers, Will.

Thanks for that will.....

The main reason I am asking is because I wanted to see if there was a possibility for you to shave a few seconds here and there that would help you qet in and out faster.

Although I know you probably have your system set perfectly I don't want to make any suggestions that could mess with your head.

Do you have problems equalizing at the speed you are descending? Personally I belive you cold go faster but you still have a great time for the 78.

You're right there man! Keep up the good work!

Dave

Hi Will, congrats on the awesome dive and goodluck for your WR attempt!
To me your dive profile looks very fast, it wouldn't work for me. I actually improved my constant no-fins by slowing down but I think that's just my aproach and it was a closer style to my dynamic technique. I don't think there is an ideal speed for everyone. There are many different aproaches and techniques, you can't say speed a is better the speed b. And it's not something anyone should change coming up to a comp or record attempt. When you have time to play with I say sure experiment.

Cheers,
Wal
