We're official. Welsh Spearfishing Club

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Ben,
Who appointed you as the arbiter of other people's ethics?
At the end of the day spearfishing involves killing living creatures for fun (however you want to dress it up) .
What gives you the right to try and take the moral high ground?

Reactions: grantl
I'm entitled to my opinion as is everybody else is.

And I shoot for the table first and foremost- the diving is fun, but the killing of fish I often regret, particularly the biguns!

Of course you are entitled to your opinions, it is just that you seem to think that yours are more important and more "right" than anyone else's.
Here's a suggestion for you "ethical " guys, how about you keep your poorly thought out opinions to yourself and leave other people to follow their own ethical codes?

Lost for words...it's not half term is it ?

Reactions: artiz
I didn't realise you also lived or even fished in Wales headmunter... and besides from your attitude on other threads I didn't think you knew what ethics or morals actually meant either?
You have hijacked a few other threads on this forum with your deleted abuse so could you just let us get on with what we are doing here which is making friends with like-minded spearo's who fish in Wales?

Stay focussed everyone there's always a hater... suggestions of what you would all like the web site to do will help please? I thought a page/map of all the Welsh coastal webcam's would be a good start... how about a vis cam?

Actually....we've been here before....and don't want to go there again.

It will be those who are against comps for a variety of reasons, who are classed as ethical muesli munchers, versus the archetypal 'white van man' who aggressively shouts down those who dare offer a reason as to why this is plainly a PR nightmare.

We were close to a ban a few years ago, on Pembs coast, following an association with flattie spiking and a proposal to extend the ban to spearfishing.

Comps would have been a serious issue for us to defend, and added nothing to our case on an ethical basis. The thought of some wishing to introduce them into Wales, beggars belief.

But white Van Man 'don't get it do 'e ...he can do what we likes... init'.

Apologies Artiz....signing off.

Wow check this YouTube video its North Welsh Bass porn...

...works every time

I think we should start suggesting mutually convenient places & dates for our first meeting where we can find out who is actually interested... however many turn up will determine whether a self-financing national association/club is actually viable in the first place? An internet forum is clearly not the best way to get to know each other?
We have around 20-30 interested spearo's who we will now keep updated regarding suggested venues and dates?

Please either pm jaymz or me if you would also like to be added to this email list!

P.S. I've got this video on speed dial... it's also a classic 'Welsh Bass' training video... where there's small big will surely follow... in shallows but near to a deeper shelf... the Bass using the white water for camouflage... silence is golden... you can also clearly tell its high tide and feeding time by their speed, skit and agility... 'prince of the sea'... what an astonishing fish... currently having the freedom to catch & eat them is a privilege which comes with its own unique responsibilities!

Lastly, I will be in Pembrokeshire for late summer so I'm happy to arrange a few dives/training sessions for rookies/newbies... just pm me if you are interested?

Headhunter I'll concede that maybe my choice of words could be better comp v ethical - I'm sure comp guys do have something akin to ethics ;-)

However if we ( you And I ) just let everyone follow their own ethical code ( as you suggested) we'll lose the right to spearfish altogether. You'll have to face people disregarding size limits, closed seasons, catching no go species, rocking up at comps and not following the rules- I'm hoping you wouldn't be happy with that either.

I'm not sure how often many on this forum fish in welsh waters or understand the fragility of our rights here. So if some of us want to put effort in to sustain spearfishing rights in Wales, we'll be doing it for everyone- however ultimately there will probably need to be compromises.
My opinion is that codes of conduct, fish size limits, bag limits and comp fishing will probably have to be considered.

hey!! ....Off topic-ish.... but......I still drive a van and before folk bash people who drive or have driven for a living.......go out before 6am on any road or motorway and watch as all the 'commuters' in their various guises come out in waves at 'commute' times of the day before ruling that your hour a day on the road is more important, and how other people on the road behave is obviously not rational or normal. To folk who drive for a living it can be like watching whacky races at these super important commute times, where super important folk have to get to their super important jobs and make super important decisions........ Always a bigger picture that depends on where you are standing.....just saying..........and this thread is starting to read like a precoital moral massaging and dogging forum, thinly disguised as a spearfishing club!! just sayin! init!

Delivering luuuurve (what did your last speargear get delivered in?) nationwide

Van Man

Yeti... Do you even read your own drivel before posting?... or is it your beard talking and you have no say in the matter?
I wondered if anyone else had noticed that Grantl, Yeti and headmunter always turn up together... or is it just me? (usually in the school holidays as pointed out by Robbo66 though?) they hunt the forum for any perceived tree-huggers... loaded guns at the ready with three practiced layers of a concerted threefold attack... I imagine them affectionately as the 3 evil monkeys... see, hear & do?

1. Grantl... slightly quizzical but slick BSA promotional reasoning... ('good at Google' too)... "I can't think of a reason not to join".... in a weasly, irritatingly, nasal borders twang

2. Yeti... he's the insane hyena from Walt Disney's Lion King... 'you just never know do you'?... you could even be in a layby in your white van one day and suddenly he's there??...'what the hell'?

3. headmunter... jugular... enforcer... 'ave it'... probably around 16... Dad is deffo in the BSA and if not he used to be...

Anyways... all good fun............. come on you Welsh boyos lets be avin ya?

P.S. using smileys is so much fun innit?

Soothing video

Be careful what you wish for, it may come true.

Best video on Youtube?

Chance would be a fine thing... there was even talk of an independent Kernow... back when I was a lad?

I can't really see anything wrong with local politics for local people?... although on second thoughts an independent Wales governed by the Welsh Nationalists is a bit scary as pointed out earlier to me by Broseidon... not that I'm trying to get him into trouble or anything but there's always the possibility that a few of them are spearo's?

... 'Alex Salmond to lead the new independent Scottish nation'... really?... he doesn't look anything like Mel Gibson!

errrrrr??? nope?!?........and.....errrrrrr?.........yup?!? It's full of custard cream crumbs and a drip of coffee at the minute so a little busy!......but do you invite your fish to lay down on the couch before shooting them?

I think the last couple of pages is embarrassing for all involved to be honest. Not even a modicum of dignified argument, just the petulant remarks of those who want to represent the welsh spearo! The BSA are light years ahead in terms of how to conduct themselves.

Jaymz, I do feel sorry for you - The original name of your thread was 'Welsh Spearfishing Club', a group for like minded individuals who wanted share their experiences with others in the same geographical area. Now your idea has skipped a step to become an 'Association' with the self-appointment of individuals who lust after a platform to shovel their own biased idealogy down the necks of the supposed ill-informed. Abit of advice would be to stick to the club mentality for now and let that flourish before trying to make an impact on a national scale. Rushing ahead like this just leads to this embarrassing episode where miss-representing radicals try to seize power and ruin it for all.

I'm all about the fishing Dafydd the unnecessary politics just goes over my head mate. I leave the arguing to other folk. I've got nearly 30 Spearfishers who have expressed their interest in spearfishing either with me or the club so when the time comes to get back in the water, we will see how it goes

Good for you mate, I think it is the best course of action! Looking forward to the first email!

I think that part of the problem Jaymz, is that you called it the "Welsh" Spearfishing Club - if you'd called it the Swansea Club or the Gower Club etc, I'm pretty sure none of the drama would have occurred.

I think you started this wanting to grow a local spearo community but the title makes it sound like you're trying to start a national association. Maybe a quick re-brand is in order

As DafyddRees said focus on the Club aspect, it can only grow from there.

Won't be long now. Waters looking a bit better in west wales so will be heading down very shortly. Will get a mail out this week and see if anyone wants to join me.

And its localised now to South Wales, as I previously said said somewhere in here

So you northies can do one haha

Nah just kidding. Yes I see the upset there and have rectified it. The website will be released soon and it has South Wales in the title you will be happy to know.

You heard it here first

Hi Jaymz, sorry, I didn't realise that, I think that should smooth a lot of things out for you. A very good call, best of luck with it all!
