Wessex Spearfishing Club 2009

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Working the next couple of Tuesdays, so probably won't make the club dives (wind's not looking too clever for the next week either) :(

Following a request from Paul Smith this thread has been made a sticky. Basically that means it has a fixed spot on the forums and you can always find it by going; Forums (top of the page under the DB logo) - International Spearo network and trip reports - Europe & Mediterranean - UK & Ireland - Wessex SC.

You ask - you get :)

Dave.

PS Podge did it so blame him if it goes wrong :t

Sorry guys I can't have the time off work, so I won't make it for the BBQ in Devon on 120709. Hope the weather is good for you and you catch plenty of those Devon fish for the BBQ.

Dear All,

A gentle reminder - The Exe Spearfishing Club and the Dorset & Wessex clubs are joining together for a joint club dive (not competition) at Branscombe, East Devon on Sunday 12th July. Arrive from 9.00am, in the water by 10.00am all out of the water by 3.00pm. There is a large car park on the sea front, I'm unsure of the cost for parking at Branscombe. There is also a great little cafe next to the car park, if you’re thinking of bringing the family.

Branscombe can be a productive dive area with a long reef that runs parallel with the shingle beach about 30m from the shore that runs all the way to Beer Point towards the East. 90cm and 75cm guns should do the trick.

Don't worry if your not a club member you will be made welcome.

Safety

There will be a boat patrolling the dive area during the day

All divers to have dive floats or boards with an “A” flag (blue and white diver flag) on their float.

The weather forecast is suspect for the weekend. We will post on the forum on Friday evening to confirm the dive is taking place.

Cheers

Paul

Paul,

I'm bringing the girlfriend. She likes to do a bit of snorkelling too, and will probably want to go for a look around the reef herself. I'll obviously try to keep her out of everyone's way whilst they are fishing, but the flag that is built into her float is the American dive flag (red with white diagonal stripe) - is that gonna be a problem do you think?

Well, let me put it to you this way: if it's not acceptable, I wish you all the luck in the world trying to stop her from getting in the water (especially if I drag her all the way down there, and it turns out to be a nice day :chatup). I'll probably lead her off to a flank somewhere, and we'll go for a snorkell in the shallows - she's usually had enough after a couple of hours of fetching undersized spider crabs for me to look at anyway. :)

P,

Don't know how I managed to send it twice?

You say no problem, but having her in the water can sometimes be a bit like the seaside equivalent of a dog invading a football pitch on land, tearing around chasing the ball, completely out of control!

Don't worry, I'll keep her on a tight lead on Sunday (and I wouldn't even consider putting a gun in her hands).

Doubt we will be early (maybe even an hour or two late if anything - just have to see how we go on the morning itself).

Do you know how many are coming from Wessex?

G.
