Yes, the Beuchat and F.10 are identical, with just minor cosmetic differences (i.e. the Beuchat has no LED on the side). You can compare both of them here:

They also suffered form the same problems, but Beuchat claims the problem was in fact mechanical - improper contact in the battery compartment, especially at thinner batteries. And allegedly it was fixed with some simple additional padding, keeping the battery better in place, and in safe contact. So if anyone from you still suffers from accidental problems, then first of all verify that you have the right battery type (these button batteries come in several thicknesses), and then try padding the battery somehow so that it has a safe contact on both poles.
As for the firmware, the v1C is available online and is safe of bugs, so if you buy the cable too (which I highly recommend anyway), then even if you manage to buy a piece from an old stock, you can upgrade it yourself.
