AIDA Indoor Freediving World Championship 2009 - Århus

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I am sorry not to attack Dave´s 250m

I think it's Alexei's 250 you have to aim for - for the time being :t

244 in a high pressure comp is a great result though, especially since you hit a plateau at 220 a while ago!

Great news, thanks for all the udpates and tidbits, guys. I forced myself to read this thread in chronological order - no skipping to the end. :)

Hats off to everyone!

Too bad about Jana's DQ, but great to have another NAT & PAN-AM record in the heats! Nice going!

And Kathryn, you freakin' rock! You're my favourite zany kick ass Kiwi freediver. Actually, you're all pretty weird, goofy, and kick ass. Yes, Dave, that includes you.

Very cool to see Deeperblue denizens in the fray. Tell us more about the drama and the cat and mouse games...writing drunk will likely make even more colorful.

Sounds like an exciting comp. Enjoy the party!

And, of course, Linda, the Cleopatra of the Freediving world, your report is long overdue.

Who's the lucky guy? If you didn't find anyone worthy, I'll start moving your Greek statue collection and Italian shoes into my mansion. Yes, you can bring your dog Fifi and don't worry, that Judge-in-Learning will never cramp your style again.

Also, you'll find you now have access to a bottomless bank account and ten freediving slaves to attend to your every whim. They should be arriving right about.....now.

Oh, I've ordered you a gold dusted wetsuit make from mars rock. Please confirm your measurements via PM before you board the private jet I'm sending for you.

Wow congrats Guy, 1st place in Static & Dynamic, you da man !!!!!
Congrats to Suzy & Kathryn, excellent results. Is Suzy the only other woman apart from Natalia to break 200m in comp ?

Cheers,
Wal

This competition has been brilliant to follow. This week has been pretty hectic for me but i've managed to follow quite a bit and the coverage from Pim here has been absolutely fantastic, you are all to be commended.

And the YouTube footage is amazing! Congratulations to all :thankyou:thankyou:thankyou

Dave, you have been the great absence in this WC (together with Linda's blog). When is your next opportunity to give it a go?

By the way, I think this WC has proven that, as far as competitions which appoint a combined winner go, the point system is currently biased towards DYN. Just counting the man A final results and DQ notwithstanding (in a first approximation), STA points were 775.4, DYN points 872.5. To obtain the same total points, each STA athlete should have added about one minute to his performance - so it's not a minor bias.
I am aware this is not the right topic, so I'll post more considerations about this somewhere else.

Yeah pity I couldn't be there but it sounds like a great turnout overall. Some very big swims and I'm particularly happy with the way the Kiwis went.

I think there's a local pool comp in November or thereabouts, will probably focus on DYN for that. I honestly have no idea how far I can go at the moment, will have to do some big training swims to see where I'm at.

9 National Records to the Finns' Team! :):):):):):):):):) for that amazing achievement.
The latest was Jonerik's 210 m in DYN Finals!

Indeed!
Good to have you back, we missed you. And we are going to miss you more now that you are off with Laminar... but of course you'll blog everything about that too right?
Ah, attenta agli aspidi.

Hi Linda,

The Learjet's on your roof. Look up!

Please dress nicely for dinner tonight. No yellow t-shirt, please.

;)

Pete

The winners (DYN and DNF) were those guys who could be the closest to your perfomance :). I believe you can do more further than 250 m in DYN.

Thanks for the congratulations everyone! To win the gold medal in mens DNF really means alot to me. And to make a performance like that in such an awesome WC-final is more than I could have hoped for.
Now I need to thank Kathryn McPhee for coaching me the last 6 months. I`ve learned alot from her. For those who doesn`t know she`s KatFish on DB and has a "remote-coach business." I don`t think she has a goldmedal-guaranty for everyone but she has some very effective methods.
And of course a special thanks to my good friend and motivator Steinar Schjager(on the picture). We both got good value out of the 10EUROS we paid for free drinks:friday I`m guessing this picture will be in the next ad for paradisia nose-clips!!

Lets not forget that this was a World Championship. You cannot simply compair these perfomances. Some of the athletes did 6 MAX dives in 4 days. That is a totally different game then starting at your home pool.

And on top of that, the finals were in front of a large (for freediving anyway) crowd, every athlete had 7 very strong competitors sitting next to him/her and it was at the most important competition final for 2 years. About as tense circumstances as you can get. And for al the atheletes to perform that well, it was amazing. I was lucky to be in the crowd and there was a trully electric atmosphere in the stadium.
