AIDA World championship indoor 2011- Lignano

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Does anyone has the energy to put up the results-list of today?

I hope the organisers and or the AIDA communication of this world event gets better, because the athletes are doing their best and deserve to be known.

Thank you Kathryn Mcphee for your lovely reporting on your blog: http://www.kathrynmcphee.blogspot.com

Alexey doing 232 is news that breeds expectations, I very much like to know if he came up 'easy'? and How about the others?
Are there any surprises, any drama?

I've also been enjoying Kimmo's photo's, great work!

Well I hope the reporting gets better before the final starts so we can enjoy a feeling of being right there!

When do we have an AIDA-Media-team reporting from big events, and bringing the athletes to the world?
People just grab a cam and ask a few about their high and low, and throw the thing on Youtube!

Thanks!

Kars

live reports on my FB page . There will be a webcast during the finals. Unfortunately, we do not have the funds for the media team( me) to go to all the events. I was at Kalamata and submitted interviews etc that went out on Zooom

Yes, but 2mm long bifins would be sufficient (hence socks with a tiny blade sticked on it, or mini-fins just for the toenails). There is no dimension limitation in the rules. That's a very ridicule DQ. He was in a disatvantage and gets disqualified. If he started with fins in DNF, I'd understand, but this is simply not right. Either we specify exactly what fins are allowed, and make the rules same in all competitions, or we should stop doing exceptions and enforcing such DQ's just during WC.

I was angry enough with the jury to reprotest his dive, even though he is one of my competitors. Most of the divers felt the same way and despite knowing I probably wouldn't win I felt that I had to tell them how we felt about their decision.

On another note, thanks for posting the results into the ranking list so quickly, Ivo :)

To me very surprising and also sad (as I like to swim without fins) that an athlete was disqualified for using no fins. As far as I can read all the rules say is:

6.1.5 For DYN, fins and monofins are allowed. It is NOT possible to claim a World Record in DYN without using
fins or monofin.

and:

6.2.1 The athlete can dive without fins in a competition with fins. In competitions without fins, no fins of any kind are allowed. If the competition is announced as DYN-DNF the athlete can choose to compete in both disciplines and there will be two competition result lists, one for each discipline. If the competition is announced as a single discipline there cannot be any mix of disciplines.

The rule 6.2.1 relates to national and international competitions. In the rules regarding world championships nothing is said relating to this.

Since the rules do not define what a 'fin' or a 'monofin' is, then saying that a fin or monofin is mandatory is meaningless.

It is like saying that for dynamic with fins, you need to be wearing a juxoba during the swim. What is a juxoba? I'm not going to define it, but you definitely need to wear one if you hope to get a white card.

Similarly, since diving without a fin is a PENALTY in terms of performance, then it seems that any diver who dives WITHOUT PACKING should be disqualified. Since NOT PACKING results in a PENALTY in terms of performance, then it should be made illegal? And FRC would be not only a DQ but a 6-month ban.

In a dolphin or whale, the 'fin' is a part of the body that provides propulsion. Using this definition, hands and feet of a human are also fins.

Christian, I recommend you to use these fins :)

It is funny though, that the rules are different for different competitions...

But back to the topic, awaiting news on the upcoming competitions! :ko

a similar question came up at Kalamata; an athlete wanted to do cnf in cwt - not allowed as it was the WCs . The same rule applies in depth as pool.

I must say that the Italians really like to speak. Just a pity they did not find some moderator who is able to speak English. I'd tell it would be a better idea than an Italian speaker for a world class event :( I hope it will change later when the competition really starts

It sorrows me for this controversy, but the italians as nation not are capable of speak the english tongue. Said this, the speaker speaks in italian to a (supposedly) italian attendance: nothing of new under the sun.
:t

I might be wrong, but I don't think that in France the speaker of a public event would dare to entertain the attendance in any language other than French...

PS: when are the DNF finals?

Anal AIDA rules, less about perfmance - paragraphs rules are more important. Bah..

French? You must be joking. They would not let to come to a WC anyone else than own competitors, Belgians, Swiss freedivers, and Canadians. And only if they come from the francophone regions, of course. You will see next year in Nice! The French world does not include any barbarian lands where nobody speaks French!

Fortunately Finns are not barbaric... and actually speak some French... when drunk.

You think you're speaking French...

Actually, for WCs the organisers are meant to communicate everything (commentary included) in English. Up to them if they want another language as well. After reminding Grant, he discussed it in his usual subtle way and the commentary is now mixed language. It's hard to tell sometimes which is which though...

I was busy coaching all day so don't have much news, except that Goran looked very strong and still nobody has told Fred Sessa that it isn't a race. I don't think there were any surprises today - all the usual suspects are through.
