AIDA World championship indoor 2011- Lignano

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
It is totaly wrong to think that the handicap is coming from the lack of the push-offs from the wall. This has very very little effect if any. I can speak for myself but I had one or two experiences where I had to swim DNF in 50 meter pool and the problem for me was a sudden loss of orientation in terms of the distance to the wall and overall distance. As a result I lost my calm and had problems to find motivation. So to speak about 0-10% loss is really risky. I think it can lead even to abandoning the dive. But of course some can swim even greater distances and make their PB's.

Well, the loss of orientation is a weak argument, and a lazy excuse :). Even if you can train only in a 25m pool, you would have the same problems with the orientation almost at every DYN competition since they are mostly in a 50m pool. So if you can find the orientation with fins, you find them without too. I did several DNF competitions in a 50m pool, and found it in fact much less stressing than in a 25m pool.

Yes, I do not know - maybe I put it wrong - By loss of orientation I ment the wrong judgement of the distance to the wall - not the space disorientation, not any kind of dizzyness... I am not that sensitive.... :)

Still, you would have the same problem with fins too, and it is rarely the case. There is no real reason the distance judgment should pose more problems at DNF than at DYN.

I think Trux is in the right range. I was personally thinking a 5-10% drop on your actual PB on the day, but there's the added stress of an unfamiliar pool and a world championship - which some people respond well to and others not. That makes for quite an interesting situation where it is really uncertain what it will take to make the finals for anyone or to win. It will certainly make life interesting for the athletes!

I guess top athletes will loose about 15-20m from current max results. So, qualifications thresholds will be similar to Arhus 2009.

last month Ilaria lost 3m from her PB (made one year earlier)
with no DNF training in the last 8 months (i mean, no DNF training at all, just DYN)

i don't think the long pool will make much difference
i agree with Trux estimating a 0-10% loss

Well as far I have understand the deadline for applications (and payment for that meter) is 31th of July, so we will know in a few days...

Same conditions for everyone. So where is the problem? No world records or what?

Does anyone know regarding the Fees:

Do we need to pay now (by end July) the Event Fee AND the Hotel?
What happens if we have to cancel our participation; do we get a refund?

Hi Ulf, the organizers just replied to an email but they did not answer the specific questions... Not sure what to do - i guess I'll pay the event fees and send the application form for now.

Well I have payed everything just today... it is almost 3 months to the competition and this is a little bit strange, that we have to pay everything so far in advanced. But what can you do, me and all the Croatians have payed for accommodation and event fees. But honesty I don't have impression that a lot of divers did that...

Do you know, if it will be possible, to come there just as a visitor for one day?

I would like to watch once a big competition, and so does my wife.

I followed your example Goran and paid in full enen though I too thought it was odd to pay for the hotel in full two and a half months ahead.

Do you know if the non-AIDA athletes (CMAS, FEDAS, FFSESSM and FMAS) are going to participate?

Well I don't know, I think Italian CMAS athletes (or FIPSAS if I am correct) might be participating in this championship, for others I am no sure. We have some of them here on the forum so it might be the best if they answer on this questions itself...

i will be participating!

the fact is, FIPSAS (the Italian CMAS) will probably decide to officially warn its athletes as it did last year in occasion of the Evolution Cup 2010
me and others have been suspended from FIPSAS comps for two months for our participation at the above event :rcard

i sincerely hope FIPSAS and AIDA ITALY will come soon to an agreement about this silly thing :head
by this time, it seems that FIPSAS is not interested in finding this agreement and this is a pretty big snag to athletes enrolled to FIPSAS :(

thanks Gabriele; it amazes me that this happens. What is their rational in penalizing divers that paricipate in AIDA events? Are they concerned they may miss their state funding?
