AIDA World championship indoor 2011- Lignano

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
they acted this way:
1) official warning to all athletes, sent on october, 1st 2010
2) no news for about 4 months, then i received a letter saying my participation was under investigation
3) new letter: my participation was under investigation because with my participation to EEC 2010 and Apnea Academy Trophy i "have not behaved in a honest and fair way and failing in my sportsmanship" (or something like that, i hope my translation works)
expected sanction: min 1 to max some more months of suspension from FIPSAS comps, something like 50€ amends, radiation, and so on
4) AFTER the National Champs, new letter saying the sports court decided to suspend me from comps for 2 months

strange behavior for a federation which pretends to be seriously developing a discipline, uh?
not a single attempt to understand what was coming on with our AIDA and AA events, one sudden and imperative warning, so rude that many guys (who have not a single minimal chance to get involved in the National Team) who would have been glad to participate both events and continue to follow FIPSAS comps, did not come to our event, scared by that signal
not a nice atmosphere in Italy on this
i sincerely hope it will get better soon, i hope AIDA Italy can grow and i hope will come an agreement with FIPSAS (at least a non-aggression pact...)

What a pack of knobs. That bullsh*t is unbelievable.

Erm, did they really plan to irradiate you as pubishment, or did that just translate badly? Seems like a bit of an overreaction, even for that lot.

dave, irradiate your pubishment? now that sounds serious!

Sorry for you situation Gabriele, so nice to see that freediving is such a huge sport that federations can afford to be such idiots! :duh

you know, Simon, i am a freediving professional earning such a lot of money from my activity...

actually i know at least 2 other people in my same situation, those being Ilaria and Gaspare, the first having also been convened in the national team... and the latter having established the last 3 STA NRs...
i also know for sure others have been invstigated, but i don't know if it came to a DQ, too
i'm not bothering as in these 2 months we three had no interesting comps (and only one was planned, as far as i know), but it is definitely a silly situation

I don't think this 2 months ban should bother you, and I hope you will participate all, because there is some interesting Italian freedivers that can produce nice dives, both male and female :) I was one treathend with one year ban and a money fee for the same thing but fortunately it all went without any penalties at the end... Now we do not have any problems in Croatia anymore.

But regarding the worlds once again, when will we see the in-list??

The deadline for registration is August 15. We need more athletes to sign-up to make this competition a success. If you have not registered-please do so immediately. We want this to be a great event for 2011.
Here is the list of countries that are registered:

Australia,New Zealand ,USA ,Germany , France ,Slovenia , Czech Rep. ,
>
> > Slovakia, Croatia Denmark,Inghiterra, Greece,Poland ,Russia
>
> > ,Venezuela, Sweden, Switzerland, Hungary,Norway, Finland,Italy

If your National is not on the list-please get signed-up!

thank you :thankyouCarla

21 nations is not that bad... and not to mention that Inghiterra on board :)

Inghiterra - haha! I copied that as it was written by the Italians- have no idea who that is-England ,I guess

The organizers need 50 more competitors-so please try to encourage all freedivers to sign-up!!!! :):chatup

So how much competitors are for now? I don't know from where will 50 more people jump out in 3 days...

Goran;
74 - and they want at least 120;
I sent an email out to all the Nationals notifying them of this. Hope we can get some competitors signed up!

With the already relatively expensive starting fee of 240€ shooting up to 450€ on 31/7 and no availability of free or cheap accomodation, I am not sure whether there will be another 50 registrations. If they avoid the almost 100% increase of the registration fee, they may manage to get some new people, but I wonder who would be willing to voluntarily throw away 210€ by registering after the 31/7

I think there was around 60 competitors in Okinawa(?). Was a great and fun comp. even if it was smaller than Århus 2009.

Hope that there are still a few entries... and that the organization is flexible with the entry fee. :)

What I find incomprehensible is that the organizer asks full payment of the hotel in advance, and does not offer any option for those who want to stay less than 10 days. It means people have to pay 480-500€ three months ago (+the 240€ or 450€ entry fee). That's a lot of money, and was the reason of three cancellations among freedivers from our national AIDA. They simply can't afford spending so much money in advance.

If there was a cheap accommodation in a gym or a camping available on the site (just like it was in Aarhus), or if it was at least possible to pay just for two or three days, we could have sent 2-3 times more competitors to the WC.

What I find incomprehensible is that the organizer asks full payment of the hotel in advance...

also i think that many divers have been deterred from the long duration of the championship... 10 to 12 days is too long for many people to be away from work... especially with Depth WC being held in Sept...For the future, i think the duration of the event should also be considered.

But for now, i hope that more divers subscribe and we will get a succesful championship :friday

I think for some people the timing is difficult having the two championships so close together. The Japanese, for example, usually send a large team but ,like myself, maybe cannot be away from home for 2 months. We asked the organizers if there was another date available to avoid this time issue but they said that was the only available option.
I know some people have had problems with the payment arrangement but I hope it all works out and we can have a great competition.
