Re: BC Spearo/camp trip Round IV.

2010-I will use a different strategy:strong arming. Last year I was the only to take off in June, This year all 4 weeks were soaked up. Next year will be different too- cause I'll have stripes in a couple months here- so, they wouldn't want to piss me off. 2010 I will be there (where ever it is)

note: I told one of the people who took one of the spots that I was hoping to go to British Columbia and she said "why would you want to go there in the summer- it would be REALLY HOT!!!" I said "What are you talking about?" she said "Isn't down by the Bahamas?" I just shook my head and walked away.

Hahaha! Good... less tourists the better!

Re: BC Spearo/camp trip Round IV.

Of course, you could do the Bahamas in June, wind is down, air temp is not near as hot as later in the summer, the hurricanes haven't started, water is WARM (a bit different from BC). One of the best diving times to be there.

Re: BC Spearo/camp trip Round IV.

I would love to come , but I just don't know where I will be workin, or my work schedule because I finish my commercial diving course at the end of May. and everyone I talk to says you'll be gone for awhile at first.

Re: BC Spearo/camp trip Round IV.

I was thinking of going on a trip to the haida gwaii during spring break whick is the 14th of February to the 22nd. I've been diving for the last couple years up in Alaska and the Yukon and have completed the PFI intermediate course in vancouver with a max depth of 32m cwt but still have alot to learn. My guns are back in whitehorse but for the most part I just like exploring the underwater world. I'm currently going to school in Prince George so I would most likely drive there. If anyone would like to come or are planning a trip to the charlottes for some other time I would love to here about it.

Well my friends, time to start putting this together. The last 3 years up near Port Hardy B.C have been great successes and it can only get better, especially after last year's experiences with a fast boat and willing guide.

July 11-19/2009

what is the rough cost per person for campsite, guide or boat ect... when is the planned departure what skill level do we need to be and can anyone come

Hmmm... . We had 2 to 4 to a campsite, and rented a boat/captain for a few days. The boat was 100/day between 5 of us (we had it for about 6 hours each day), the camping might have been 10 or 15$/night or so.
Anyone can come. The first year there were some noobs, and every year there have been Americans who never dived in cold water before, which kind of makes them noobs!
No worries, and we try to pick people up on the way etc. I'll be coming from Edmonton.

I think so too Colin. Summer holiday time is just too busy and expensive, plus there are still fish in June. And we should try to get Markus' boat for 4 days too... awesome!
And maybe camp in Port Hardy.

Could it be pushed to early July? I have used up all my vacation time until end of June for upcoming trips to Baja and Hawaii. I want to spoil myself with the west coast too.

LOL, all those years in class are paying off now Lee!

Lee, I suppose we could accommodate your schedule.... but only if you promise to make your famous chowder again :)

Kind of... I am still in residency, but I have been moonlighting as a hospitalist in orthopedics to pay for my obsession with spearing fish.

I will definitely be making chowder. We just need to secure some crab again. The fish part should be relatively easy.

If we can get Markus again or someone similar it will definitely not be a concern.

So right now we're talking 1st or 2nd week in July.

I should clarify that we will be hiring a boat, but that doesn't mean everyone has to do it, or do it every time we get the boat. Maybe we get it 4 days and someone wants to just come out for 2, or not at all? No problem. We'll still shore dive and camp and do other stuff!

Hey all, I'll be moving down to Terrace area this year as I will be working as a hunting guide there. I've been touring Western Aussie and New Zealands north island for about 2 years now learning to spearfish and when I get home I wanna meet up with like minded folks so I can learn Canadian water. Was hoping some of you could help me keep up to date with getting involved in Canadian spearfishing. I'm a cold water noob for sure, but i've done a fair bit of spearfishing, i competed in the NZ nationals and didn't lose hahaha.

I f its in the end of second week of july anywhere up to the middle of august I would be interested in getting involved, even tho nobody knows me ;)

Dude how will we get to know you if you don't come! I was thinking 2nd week in July too, just to avoid some of the 1st week traffic etc.
