Hmmmm... interesting to hear you guys say that. For me a gun has to be functional ... ie it has to kill fish! If it is not doing that, for whatever reason (its on display at home) it is not fulfilling its function!
So let me ask another question, particularly for Marwan who has many guns. Which are your 3 favourite guns and for which occasions / types of hunting do you use them?

hey redline good question! funny I only own 1 gun :hmm Sometimes when I go to spearfishing websites I think about my 2nd gun. But In reality there's really no need for me to do so. However All my buds have air guns, and perhaps maybe 1 day i may consider 1 but for now it's all about my RA and in the future upgrading it to an open muzzle. :inlove I wonder if Marwan has a JBL

I've got a few guns, which I use depending on the conditions and circumstances we're hunting in. I usually take a back-up gun as well if we gave the means to carry it easily (boat). I find it usefull to have multiple guns, as one is always being serviced or a friend will need to borrow one etc...
I don't understand why JBL gets so much flak! Personally I have 2 of them, which were bought a few years back, because that was all you could buy locally. Out of the box they're admitedly not great guns, but with a few tweaks I find them reliable "workhorse" guns, particularly good at short range shots in rocky environments.
I don't think "the perfect gun" exists, unless you're doing only one type of hunting, in primarily the same conditions. Otherwise its a question of having the right tool for the job Having said that, probably 70%+ of my hunting is done with my primary gun, and the remaining 30% with one of my secondary ones.

sorry i dont have a Jbl.. the guns i use most are:
1 - Omer excalibur carbon 100...for most of my hunting
2 - Cressi comanche 75..for rock/hole fishing in the med..
3 - Rabitech 120 apex carbon for bigger fish in certain spots
all my other guns are varieteies of the same sizes more or less..

On the shop i got to I ask one of my friends why he stocked them and he answered "those guns are the one that sell the most look at their price" he also talked about ab-billers personally all my friends have airguns & their spare are billers even though they are not to fond of it. In action the billers shoot very hard but they are very loud & I find them some what uncomfortable to maneuver, maybe because of the mid handle as oppose to my RA. I would like to own a mamba If something that would be my 2nd gun some day

I recently purchased a Cyrano 970 which really impressed me ... Its now been Mambatized, but yet to be tested as I lost the shaft sealing gizmo. I'm sure the performance will be great, as many have said, but I honestly think it will be too "fiddly" to make it as my favourite gun. As a secondary, backup gun though it could be peerless.
I'm still intrigued by the Mr. Carbon C4... and may succumb to the temptation of treating myself to one.
Have any of you used a Hayaari? I've seen them first hand, and they are unbelievably gorgeous and well made. I'd be really interested to know how they perform ...

zane (DB name SpeerO), who makes them is a member here..they look really great but i dont think they hve been widespread yet in terms of sales, he just started out, so not much of a chance to get a lot of feedback...but since you are both in UAE then maybe pay him a visit and try it for yourself...
on the other hand i think you will find the omers, rabitechs and rob allens good all round guns...that can easily be you primary guns, then fiddle with the other more precious items like c4, mamba, wong etc...

Well spotted Marwan ... Zane is in Abu Dhabi and I'm in Dubai I saw his guns when I went to pick up the mamba kit from him, and I can tell you I was blown away: The guy is a craftsman and his guns are a work of art. He's the agent for Mr. Carbon, and the C4's only got a quick glance compared to the hours I spent drooling over his guns. Once I know a bit more about exactly what kind of gun I want, I will definitely get him to make one for me ... assuming he doesn't have a full order book by then!
Currently my primary guns are a Cressi 115 carbon prototype that I picked up 2yrs back, and a Freediver 100, a south african gun which I really like ... super smooth, powerful and accurate. To be honest I don't really need another gun, but I'd like to expand my frame of reference a bit, so I can better understand the attributes that distinguish an exceptional gun from a good gun.

in know what you mean about drooling over wooden guns..you might want to look at other brands as well that are woodie specialists..like Abellansub, totemsub, WONG!! (similar to the one shown in pastor's post)which is my favourite new gun, part teak wood and part carbon fiber the best of both worlds, dapiran, Riffe...
bear in mind that woodies differ a lot from eachother, the eurotye woodies have a diffent profile/cross section than the american models, to be more suited for the fish in the med. and the associated hunting techniques...

I think zane is selling them once he's got the designs right. He had about a dozen prototypes in his workshop, and a few others under construction. I offered flat out to buy one of his older guns which caught my eye, but he basically said it was an early development one, and he wouldn't be releasing that design as he was perfecting it. I thought that was pretty cool of him to be so honest about it - he could easily made a few $$$ from me.
I haven't tried any of his guns yet, so I can't vouch for them, plus I don't think I'm experienced enough to comment. However the guy is obviously talented and determined, and has the perfect setup (technically) to produce quality guns. The fact that he's asking questions is positive - he's tapping into the wealth of expertise available on the forum.

I'm finding out that there's a whole interesting world out there beyond the Cressi, JBL, Mares, Beauchat's that I was bought up on ... its going to take some time going through all of them
For most of the fishing in the arabian gulf I think the majority of "off the shelf" guns are perfectly adequate, specially once tuned and tweaked to my preferences and local conditions. However I'd love a custom gun for the bigger palagics we get on the indian ocean side, in Oman. Before I do get myself a custom gun, I want to "educate" myself somewhat, so when the time comes I know what I'm talking about A lot of the guys here use Riffe for bluewater hunting in Oman, so hope I'll have a chance to try one out, as well as one of Zane's beauties...

FoxFish: WOW! Those Trygon guns look pretty innovative! Have you tried them at all? I wonder how they, or Mr Carbon, manage to mould the complex geometries in one piece... its pretty tricky. Do you anything about the production process? Are they autoclave finished? I'd be pissed if my $1,000 carbon gun delaminated and fell apart...
Marwan: I've seen the photo's of nadim and nessim's fishing exploits ... wow! I'll look them up before I head off to Oman to get some tips/advice from them.

Trygon guns are built in a complex multi art mold from precisely worked out layers of carbon cloth. They are then forced into their final shape by air pressure before autoclaving. Same process as used in F1 cars, very little chance of them delaminating. Very nice top flight innovative guns made by people who know what a good gun could be like
