I state without reserve that some of the most interesting, most important, and most memorable times in my life have been when I have met DB members after 'knowing' them in cyberspace first. We live in interesting times for many reasons- one of them being the strong communities that develop on the internet, resulting in face-to-face moments in time that can be unforgettable. I started posting here and met Freediver48, who became like an older brother to me before I even knew what he looked like. He encouraged me to compete when I never would have considered it. We met, dove and hunted together for 3 days.... he died not long after that. I am glad I got to punch him in the arm, share a coffee and the sea. Since then I have met up with divers all over the world, including our amiable host Stephan. Whatever his intentions and aspirations for starting DB, I thank him for doing it. My life would be lesser without it. Don't discount how important our little corner of cyberspace is!

Update: Accomodations
Just a taste, not the full story, sorry. I got a short email from Eric who owns the operation in Telegraph Cove. I'm not sure if he has a campsite. What he does have are floating cabins/hotubs/diving/fishing/awesome food (he is a cook) all on barges out on the sea near shore. Telegraph Cove is built on stilts.
Eric said there will be a website up very soon with all details and that the prices would be very reasonable. So it's wait a bit to see what that means. If the prices are out of range for some or it's just not what some want to do, then we can work on options, as there are many campsites up in that area.
But wait and see what comes.

It's a plane flight out of Port Hardy if I remember. I talked to God's Pocket Resort last year, but they wont allow spearfishing. :rcard Not surprisingly they will however allow fish EATING by their scubadivers. rofl

According to the God's Pocket website, they pick you up by boat from Port Hardy.
TylerZ can easily get around the spearfishing regulation. He eats his seafood WHILE STILL UNDERWATER. Doesn't require a fishing license either, although he has one!

Contests Will Swim 17km In Icy Open Ocean Water From Telegraph Cove To God's Pocket On Hurst Isle, Where They Will Spear And Net As Many Fish As Possible. They Will Then Swim Back To Telegraph Cove, And Immediately Get Out Of The Water And Have Their Fish Weighed. Contestants Must Return In Less Than 19 Hours. They Will Then Barbeque Their Fish And Eat As Many As Possible Prior To The 20 Hour Mark. The Greatest Quantity Of Fish Caught And Eaten Within The 20 Hour Time Limit Will Be The Winner. Fins, Wetsuits, Masks Or Other Aids Are Not Allowed. The Only Allowable Equipment Is A Wooden Polespear And A Mesh Bag. Being Captured And Prosecuted For Spearfishing By The Staff At God's Pocket Resort Is Grounds For Disqualification. For The Bbq, No Firestarting Aids Are Allowed. Failure To Start The Barbeque Is Grounds For Disqualification. Fish May Not Be Eaten Raw.
The Port Hardy Freediving Corporation Will Not Be Held Responsible For Legal Penalties Incurred By Spearfishing At The God's Pocket Resort, Nor Will The Corporation Be Held Liable For Death Or Injury By Hypoxia, Hypothermia, Barotrauma, Boat Collisions, Drowning, Dismemberment, Or Shark Attack. All Contestants Must Provide A Last Will And Testament, No Exceptions, As Well As A Registration Fee Of $5500 To Cover Possible Medical Or Funeral Costs. The Competition 1st Prize Is $1000. In The Case Of Death The Prize Is Reduced To $500 Split Amongst Next Of Kin.
