C4 Mustangs

Buogoirno marco,

Who is your re-seller/distributor in the United Kingdom? Grazie.

Well, my first impressions of the mustangs are very very good. I will compare them with the C4(25's blades) flaps i also own. I also bought the mustangs with 25's blades. I was wearing a 7.5 mm wetsuit with 11 kg of lead on me. Most of the dives were between 15-20m of depth.

The fins are so light that after 4 hours of diving i was not tired at all! They felt strange at the beginning because i was used to wear longer and much more heavier fins and the mustangs are significantly shorter and lighter which made it easier for me to move and hide between rocks.

Although, the shoe is softer that any other i have tried in the past, its shape is not as comfortable (to my feet at least!) Normal fin shoes are "universal" as i call them, almost all feet with fit inside them, however the fact that there are empty spaces between the feet and the regular fin shoe causes energy to be lost. The mustang shoes fills all gaps between the foot and the shoe and thus the energy is transfered to the blade almost perfectly and you can really feel that!!! However, you might experience the same problems you have sport shoes! Not all shoes fit to all people!!!

The blades responded amazingly well during the ascending phase( i was diving with a 7.5mm Wetsuit with 11 kg on me!!!),and they allowed me to maintain my technique A LOT easier than i used to. I had some problems at the beginning of the dive because of the thick wetsuit(i believe) and my body weight (100 Kg), Maybe i should have got the 30's blades but time will show! Probably with the 3mm suit things will be lot a better!
Another thing that impressed me was that while at the beginning of the ascending phase i felt the blades bending so much (they felt like toys to my feet)which usually makes me believe that the blades are insufficient for my body type, the acceleration i was getting was amazing !! At any time of the dive i did not feel any significant resistance from the mustangs! I suffer from 2 injuries, one at the right knee and one at the top right foot, and i always had minor pains in those two areas! Not this time!!!

On saturday i am gonna try them with a more "summer" set up so as to have a better view of the fins!

thanks for your review.
I want to buy the mustang spearfishing fins and i am wondering if i should get the 25 or 30 model. i'm also a 100kg guy (i want to lose some of it!!!) and i dive with a 5 mil suit and 8 kg of balast. i have strong legs and my other fins (gara 2000) look soft to me.

looking for some help.

My friend, I am also 97 Kg and with a 5mm/4mm suit i use 7kg and I use the 25 blades(i used the 25 model also with ordinary fins). I was on the same dillemma of 25 or 30 blades. The dealer told me that if im satisfied with the push i got from the 25 blades on my previous fins then i should stick with the 25 blades on the mustangs( the same push but with less effort), if i wanted something more in terms of push then i should use the 30 blades.

If you really have very strong and injury free legs try the 30 blades. If not the 25 ones are great. One thing you have to be careful are the shoe pockets. Choose the one that it is a bit bigger for your feet and use the shoe laces to make it fit exactly (as you do with athletic shoes) I got the 43-44 size which fits exactly to my feet and it is not very comfortable. I should have got the 45-46 size and tighten it up with the shooe laces.

After 4 dives with them, i think i am in love!!!!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!

I managed to gain almost 10m of depth because of correcting a lot of issues in my technique due to the mustangs!!! Because of injuries on both my knees i couldnt move regular fins properly and i had to concentrate on leg movement all the time , neglecting other things! With the mustangs i stopped worrying about it since they dont need a very wide movement and because of the position of the blades under the feet, the power the can generate is far greater than normal fins and it can be achieved easier!!!

thanks for your reply.
i still can't decide on the 25/30 because i never used a C4 fin before to compare. thanks for the size tip! I'm still getting a hard time to find the fins in Portugal/Spain wich is a strange thing (it's next to Italy). im think i'll end up buying them from Italy...

Hola,i want to boy a pair in spain, but the dealer told me that they will be available in one month.
When can i buy then in europe fast?
Thanks

I have had good results using the apnea-rail version in competition. Blade stiffness 30, and my body weight 70Kg. With my old fibreglass fins, an ascent from 60 metres would take 80 seconds. This has now reduced to 60 seconds.

In dynamic, my distance has increased by 25%.

I also seem to suffer less with lactic fatigue. I think a change in training has accounted for some improvement, but the fins are definitely more efficient than my old ones.

This competition was the CIPA International in Nice, with 68 competitors. I only spotted one other person with a pair, who strangely enough hadn't put his laces in. He said he didn't need them.

Fred Buyle had a try with mine and seemed impressed also. Some people liked the aesthetics, some didn't. Lots of interest though. The move to monofin has now been delayed.

Try contacting the greek dealer. you will find contact details at the c4 website.

Hi everyone,
as I'm still hesitating about which C4 fins to get, i did some Internet surfing these last days and found a more complete test on the Mustangs http://www.bluworld.com/test/testmustang.pdf
It's in Italian, but after translating through Babelfish it seems to me that they were impressed about the improvement in comparison to the "normal" Flap fin, which already were better than the falcon !!!!! :duh

For me its quite clear, in performance and comfort of the footpocket these fins are waaaaay better than the old models Falcon and Flap. But that's only my opinion based on what i read here and there. I really want to try them out :D

Ciao,
Christophe

Hello from Italy,
buy them and you will never regret it. I just got mine a couple of weeks ago directly from the factory (20 km. to my house), and they are really revolutionary and fantastic. They are completely (and pleasantly) different from all the other fins I have (both plastic, fibreglass-carbon and pure carbon). Almost no effort and not ANY kind of fatigue and pain even after prolonged and powerful use. After reading the very few reviews I could find about them, I was not sure between the 25 and the 30 spearfishing (1,86 mt. and 85 Kg.) but at the end I went for the 30 and I am happy I’ve done it. Effort required is so low I would recommend the 30 to everybody, except maybe (maybe, neither sure about this) to people that suffered serious injuries in the legs. They require less effort than the softer fins I have, but they deliver a power comparable or superior to the longest and stiffest I have without being tiring, bulky, heavy and exagerately long so giving much more agility. I was trying them firstly in a swimming pool, trying to stay behind a guy with a physical structure similar to mine, he was wearing Cressi Gara 2000 HF, the stiff ones. We have done about 30 pools in a row, swimming fast, and I could easily, without effort stay behind him almost attached to his fins all the time. Nothing special you say? He was swimming legs and arms, me only legs! Had all the eyes in the swimming pool on me (and I’m not a champion, you can bet on it!).
The foot pocket is really a piece of art, so comfortable and transmitting all of the power to the blade, but you have to take at least a size bigger or more than normal as it’s quite short fitting. This is really something you should have to try before to buy.
About how they look like, it’s of course a matter of taste, but I really like them. What I can say, for some strange reasons, they look much much better and “proportioned” in reality than on pictures, have no idea why.
Hope all of this could be of help.
Sorry for my poor English.

All the best from Italy, Dolcevita

Hello,
Does anyone know where I can purchase a pair of C4 Mustangs (anywhere in the world, but preferrably in the US)? I have contacted the manufacturer w/o success.
Thanks!

SIZING??

For anyone whose had a chance to try these out I was was wondering about the sizing of the footpocket and what your wearing underneath?

All of my fins have 42-44 footpockets on them, but my Sporasub and Picasso pockets only let my squeeze in a 3mm sock- where as my OMER pockets will let me get a 5-6mm sock in them. As a result I have a combintaion of pockets on my fins for diving in different temps.

I have heard some people mention "sizing up" with these pockets, but wasn't sure how far someone should go.

Jon

This is a solution that lets you wear 3mm and 5mm sock with the same footpocket.

Yeah,

I've got a few pairs of those lying around, but it still doesn't help squeeze a thick sock into a smaller pocket without turning my toes blue.

We've got a saying around here when it comes to fat ladies wearing spandex- "A 10 pound sausage in a 5 poubd casing".rofl That pretty much sums up trying to put a super thick sock into the small footpocket.

Jon

That's the reason for footpocket selection based on the thickest sock you have :) When you dive with thin ones, just put a pair of "those" (whatever their name is) to prevent losing fins rofl.

Jon, as soon as mine arrive (in 1 or 2 days) i'll be able to help.
So you finally did it...I'm happy, enjoy them mate! Where did you find them?

i've got them in 43-44 and my regular shoe size is 43 1/4, they fit fine with 3 mm socks.
the whole purpose of the shoe laces is to make it comfortable and interchangeable with socks of different thicknesses, if i got it right.
my fins are 30. it feels kryp, i've dove a few times with them already and i can just fathom the potential of these beauties.
good stuff.

spaghetti, i was going to send you a pm but i just wanted to have the fins in my hands before i could say "i've got them". It's been a litle hard to get them so i'm still in "no antecipation party" :) I got them from emporiodellapesca.it (270€+30€ for shiping)... As soon as they arrive i'll post :)

I want to thank you again for all your help and effort that you offered to someone that you only know from these posts. Although i didn't get them from the place that you contacted, it was a great help. If i can help in the future, let me know (as for all DB members).

Thanks
