Just a quickie to let you all know that there is some good vis on the North Coast for the first time in weeks, or at least there was on Fri am. I popped over to Trevone and dived the reef towards Harlyn. vis was ideal - about 6m. Bagged 3 bass and a decent poollack.

Was also able to get in at Talland this afternoon to swim off my hangover after a stag do. Vis was 3-4m. There were planty of fish around but not much of any size. I tried out around the headland down to about 10m but apart from a few 18" pollack most of the fish I saw were up on top of the rocks in the shallower warm water sunbathing. Saw a few schools of makerel but couldn't get a clean shot. After 3 hours I managed a couple of smaller bass off the small reef between the two beaches. I might have done a little better if I didn't have to sit out on some rocks for 15 mins to stop myself hurling into my snorkel!!! Still, it was a worthwhile day - hangover's gone!

Went in on the south coast with REddie and viz was mixed at between 3 and 4 metres. Saw a coupl of schoolies and eddie saw a few more all schoolie size and not worth taking. Saw a large amount of mackarel and also some horse mackarel. Managed to spear a horse mackarel and also a mackarel but hit it in the tail and it got off the shaft B4 I could get it in. Wind kicked up a little towards the end, but it was an enjoyable 3 hr fish with plenty of variety of fish and some clonking wrasse!!!!!!

Hope next week is going to be ok.

Stay Safe

Hey all.. got in with the boat at Helford on friday, searched all the points nearby, then back over to Newquay on saturday.. both dives seemed pretty gloomy with not much to see. :( We camped out friday night on the beach which was awesome tho and luckily caught a good 3lb bass on the rod for the BBQ.. Happy days!

Well done with finding some good vis on the north coast REddie.. wish I'd thought of Harlyn!

Poor Viz continues on the border! , but did get a couple of dives in Friday and Saturday. 2 Mullet Friday. Couldn't see the bottom from the surface but when you dived the viz opened up to 2m... and a possible gloomy 3m in places! Fair few mullet around and 1 Bass came in on a dive .. twice! , but due to the viz had no time to track the gun to its position.

Then saturday complete change. Similar viz. Same tide but despite being in for 2 - 3 hours did not see a single fish on any of the dives! Made no sense at all.

A quick jump in at my favourite south coast spot today produced some fish in 2-4m variable vis. Met Steve Game coincidently also going in and had a good chat. Steve had a respectable mullet landed. I saw a good few fish and bolted quite a few bass in the larger frame until I slowed two right down with a spear. Next came a cuttlefish, quickly followed by some very satisfying snap shots at fast moving mullet. I did see a huge bass hanging on the edge of the vis. He reminded me of one I missed at the sametime last year at the same spot. So frustrating praying he would turn but far to wise to give me a chance. Also took a bucket load of lovely mackerel yesterday in my boat off Newquay. Very pleasant weekend indeed after surfing myself silly earlier in the week. Cheers

Conditions were great for me on the south coast yesterday, the nicest vis I`ve seen for ages and I saw more fish, and more large fish than I`ve seen in ages. Failed to catch a damn thing though, missed at least 4 REALLY easy shots and scored a really nice long range tracking shot that didnt penetrate enough and the fish got off. I ended up staying in until I was frozen hoping for something but it just never happened :( Frustrating!

Kernowsniper - Nice fish. That flatty sure doesn't look like a plaice though. Flounder maybe?

Had a dive on the south coast yesterday morning. Good viz and no wind. Saw bass right away and stuffed up! I have spent too many times laughing at you who have lost a shot because your safety catch was on! Well now i have joined the ranks :rcard. Not the biggest fish but big enough though! Took off the catch and got one on the next dive. A little futher up the reef a rock was out of the water with a deep gully next to it with a small bass sitting deep. I waited half out of the water and watched some baitfish swim into the gull followed by a bass of about 4lb. He is on the menu tonight. Just as i was getting out i also bumped into a turbot. He didn't even try to swim off so i didn't even shoot my gun, just grabbed him and picked him uprofl.

Hoping to get into the water on thur but just got to see what it looks like.

Got in last night. Swam over the metre layer of mud and got to some cleanish water where the vis was about 3m horizontally at best and 0m vertically. First dive down and a nice 4 -5 lb fat bass came in, circled, went away and turned back and then left never to be seen again as my spear flew underneath him.... After that only saw some schoolies that came in really close. It was good fun considering the last couple fo days and hopefully if there's not too much more weather it should improve a bit for the next couple of days up here. Worringly it was dark at 8 30.........

The viz looked suprisingly good last night. I just took my wifes mal out for a paddle as it was late and got a few waves but it very good for a dive. Not sure i can get in over the next few days which is a shame as we are on the slippery slope to winter now!!

Cold pea soup at Porthscatho which really didn't justify getting out of bed at 5 am.

Dived the falmouth area this afternoon.Vis was pretty good up to 5m in places.Fair few fish around too.Ended up with 3 mullet but saw plenty of bass although none that said 'do me'.

Was going to go in today but a combination of hangover and bad tide put me off. Got high hopes for tommorrow, winds dropping a bit, should be sunny and flat....

Well south coast inshore visibility was pea soup, bloody awefull, very disappointing.

Planning to have a look see on the north coast this evening,it's looking pretty promising right now but as for what the vis is like......we'll see (or not).
It just feels so fishy today for some reason.

Was not intending to go in today but it seemed so nice........unfortunately it was crap! Went in 1300 hrs swam round - limited viz - mainly about 1m max and very murky!!

Saw very little - spent the whole time trying to dive under it and stay around the rocks - but the sea had chopped up greatly by the time I came in so a bit of a wasted trip.

Stay safe all and keep the weather forecast fingers crossed.

Tempted in tonight. Viz was as seems normal now shocking! Some better areas managed about 2+m. Other areas it was difficult to see past the gun.

Spotted a good size (must have been around 8lb?) Bass when peering out of the gully I was in and eyeballing the Bass with no chance of bringing the gun around! :head

Spotted 4 Bass of 3lb ish. and dozens of smaller Bass. A small flatfish, 2 dogfish which were really friendly, lots of wrasse....

followed about 10m of snagged fishing line in hope of a nice lure.. but no joy!

Walked back in the dark with no fish! :head

I blame the Viz. Didn't work in my favour tonight.... Still I don't mind nowadays. I know you can still get lucky. :)

Sounds like my dive last night Pav.Vis was alright though considering.Saw a few bass here and there,a few good size ones but it was one of those days......they'd approach from behind or i'd get the gun bogged down in the kelp....something would go wrong everytime.Managed a mullet as did my mate.Enjoyable dive none the less.
I did see however some of the biggest wrasse i have ever seen....there was about 4 or 5 of them in the same area, total horses.
