Having a dreadful season so far...
Was really busy when the weather was good in June. Got in several times at weekends but saw little fish. Now on 6 weeks summer hols and the rain and wind has set in! What good are summer holidays if you can't go spearfishing?

There were actually 2 spearo's and nice to see that they were treated equally to the anglers. I feel that was a good bit of public relations.

Just seen What to eat now. Colin seems like a great chap, and what a nice assortment he came out with! A good bit of spearo PR there with the Bass.

im a sea angler and spearo so i can appreciate both sides of the coin so to speak but i can def say you cannot appreciate the underwater marine life as much from a beach buddy! (other beach shelters are available..)
many sea fisherman i speak to think im nuts to spearfish because it takes to much effort but they wont try!

Got in on the North coast at a spot that I have been perservering with this year. Whilst I've sometimes managed something it has never been too exciting and always felt it had more to offer. Overcast crossshore wind, vis was up to about six or seven metres and there was a small and brisk swell.
First couple of fish I saw were a mullet and a trout. First time I've seen one, it was about 2 1/2 lb I thought about it but know the rules. It didn't quite fit in though and definitely looked like it shouldn't be hanging out with a mullet.
Moved on to the other side of the bay and other than a few 2lb pollack in the deeper water, that I watched slide by (like they do), it was starting to look a little barren. Had a few dives and the sun broke through for the first time since June and I just started to enjoy the moment.
Took a shallow dive, couldn't find anything to hold onto as the swell picked up so I moved cumbersomely through a gap and grabbed a kelp knot and
waited. A bristling bass loomed over gave me the once over and bolted. He looked too interested in me not to come back. He did with two of his mates heading towards my line. I tracked him but it now dawned on me that I had a double shot on. I waited, changed angle and ...
Mayhem, let the gun go and wrestled with line, stringers, kelp, floatline, swell and had to dispatch both bass underwater. I got out after that.
The larger one was bang on 4 1/2 lb although they definitely seemed bigger at the time. Certainly my best days/shot fishing yet.

Well done on the double. I've managed that myself once or twice. Even nicer when it's deliberate. Nice fish as well.

I've not been around here for a while but good news - I finally got my self a speargun after diving for 30 odd years. Found a secondhand Cressi Sioux 75 at Pool carboot for £15. Needed a little TLC and is now shooting fine.
I normally dive at Castle beach in Falmouth but in the search for the perfect quiet beach I thought I'd try around the Roseland. Anyone got any advice?
Also, anyone interested in joining me around the Falmouth area sometime - I think Badlander's the nearest to me.

Anytime Andrew, I'm near Chacewater and dive Falmouth beaches regularly (well, weather permittingrofl!).
I've got my eye on a couple of Roseland marks. Just waiting for that combination of time, tide and sun for a beach barbeque up that way.
Thanks for that. I wouldn't mind poping down to Falmouth for a quick dive after work sometime, should be quieter - the last thing holiday maker expect is my hairy arse when I'm changing
I'll probably try a few Roseland spots at the beginning of August (on holiday for a couple of weeks) and let you know how I get on.
BTW I have a couple of rabbit shoots at Chasewater.
Have you noticed the marker bouys moving in toward the beaches over the last few years. It used to be pretty safe diving there but the boats are getting so close nowadays. I spend more time on the surface checking prop noises than doing what a came for. I can't imagine the tank divers being to happy about it either as it's really popular with dive school's around the area.
