Got in today on the North Coast for the first time in over THREE weeks!!!
Not managed any dives due to work, family commitments and obviously the fine English summer we are having! Been a bit reluctant to get in when the weather was not perfect for fear of being dissapointed. Not hardcore enough like some of you guys!
Anyway, my wife actually persuaded me to get in today (despite the rain) as I was starting to chew the furniture with frustration! The vis was surprisingly do-able in the shallows amongst the weed and I was rewarded with a 2.5lb bass and a 3lb-er! First bass of the season. I was chuffed as I expected nothing.
I will be going in again tomorrow even if it snows! (likely? ha ha)
Pav- Didn't manage to get in at Bude last weekend when camping due to packing logistics (it was either spear gear or tent). Was relieved though as it rained most of the time we were there and the sea was a nice milky brown colour!!!!

When to a spot between Castle and Gyling vase this afternoon. Really bad vis - around a metre or so. Low tide so not much room between the shore and the marker bouys. Grabbed a good sized spider crab but it twisted and I lost it in the kelp. Saw bugger all fish except what I think was a wee pollack but not sure as the water was so full of crap. Got out after about an hour, read a book and toasted myself instead. At least it was sunny with not a rain drop in sight

Just a little heads up, while paddling the yak from Gorran Haven, to the Dodman and back to Chapel Point I found a couple of little friends which I hope would sting the idiots being towed by idiots in speedboats who do not have a care for anyone!
They are only a few inches across but will give you a hell of a kick if you get them near bare skin.
On a better note I am hoping to walk the dog first thing followed by spearing for a few hours followed by yakking......shame the wife and kids are at the in laws until Monday!!!!! Yippeeeee

Fun day on the south coast netted me a couple of golden grey mullet, one just legal and the 2nd I got quite excited about as its just over the hall of fame gg I think.
It weighed in at just shy of 1.4lb without guts.

Oh well, that's my spearing done for the season - broke my right leg in a couple of places yesterday at Rinsey Cove. Got gound up by a monster wave when I was just splashing around at chest depth, then another wave finished me off. Managed to drag myself partially out and shouted for help and a young lad pulled me out of the water. Another couple of men dragged me further up the beach. Every single person on the beach was helping in some way and all were amazing. Had 3 first aiders and an off duty SAR man there. Culdrose SAR arrived, landed and whisked me off to Treliske. Xrays found I'd broken my tibia around halfway up and, I think, my fibula near the bottom. At the moment I'm in plaster and due to go back on Monday to see if I need pins.
I was speaking to a spearo before it happened (James from Wadebridge). He'd left by the time it happend but his brother helped a lot and offered to take my dive gear back for me - I brought it but didn't use it. I mentioned that I wasn't going in as it looked a little frisky out there and James said I'd regret it when he came back with a 5lb bass If he did get the bass then that would be the perfect end to a perfect day

glad to hear that you are ok could have been alot worse by the sounds of it lucky people were there to help you out the water i hope you a speedy recovery sounds like your gona be practicing o2/co2 tables for a while
You're right, it could have been a lot worse. Luckly breath holding helped a lot as I had to drag myself underwater for a bit to reach shallower water. Chest deep water sounds fine unless you can't stand, plus the wave height added to that. Not fun at all and I was worried about reaching the shore.

Glad you are safely back on dry land Andrew, could have been nasty. Enjoy the sponge bath and the codeine mate, I can think of worse ways to spend a summer roflrofl
On a lighter note...
Went in this morning at the crack to assault Falmouth beaches with the other half. Vis was not great, misty with a belt of brown algal murk at the thermal barrier. Pretty fishless until we went out to check out some buoys and I spotted a nice fat flounder resting on the sandy bottom amongst worm casts. At first I thought it was a Plaice as this one had really orange spots, much spottier than most of the flounders I have caught. He must have Plaice genes somewhere as they are known to interbreed occasionally...

Yep, 2lb 1oz after gutting. On the contrary, I can feel another redvanrob monster being pulled from the deep, ousting me from the flounder league yet again :ko.
Still, some great specimens in the HOF now, with the UK well represented. You just gotta love Sunfish's pollack!
My PB flounder is high 4's, never quite managed a 5lb-er (pre DB membership). Know of 2 sixes that were netted though. On the other hand my PB pollack is a pathetic 4.5lb. Sunfish I aint. There's always luck involved but it does depend on your local area. You can't catch the fish that aren't there. That's my excuse anyway.

Andrew Hope you get better soon. I know it may not sound better, but speaking from xperience pins will speed up the healing process and allow more exercise for the muscles while the bone mends - I shattered my right leg in 1990 (cominuted fracture) and it was mended but due to the amount of bits it took 6 months to get out of plaster. Yours does not sound so bad so hopefully you may get to spear again before the Autumn.
One piece of advice is do listen to the physioterrorists, they do know what they are talking about......my God we have had a few accidents this year on the forum.
Any chance you will appear on the next episode of Seaside Rescue?????
