Went in with a mate on the North coast today, the vis wasn't too hot and didnt see a single thing worth shooting, another seal pestered me for ages lol that didn't help im sure.

So later on i went in for another dive and was determined to stay in until I got something , the VIS was terrible, white murk everywhere finally found a decent bass hiding out in some kelp and took him home. A long day for one bass!

Saw another little John Dory as well but too small to shoot.

Dived south coast yesterday. Wind was a lot less from the north as i would have liked but i couldn't be arsed to drive anymore so i got in there. Vis was pretty poor off the bat...probably about 2m and really choppy. Wasn't pulling anything in on the dives so headed for the stringweed. Nothing in the first patch but the second patch turned up a fair sized bass.Moved on up further than i normally go as the vis had now opened up to about 5m in places.Hugged the shore line where the stringweed was and found another slightly smaller bass.Headed back to my exit point along the deeper water and took a good sized mullet on a dive. As i got out i noticed further up the coast a little bit there was a little point that was sheltered from the wind and looked weedy so i walked and waded up there to have a look. Turned out to be a huge stringweed patch with a fair ammount of bass but either mostly on the small side or far too close to actually get a shot on. Felt like i needed a 20 or something! Getting out i bumped into a local spearo and had a quick chat which is always nice.

I've had a fair few of those lately. The other day, hunting the weed, I turned my head and had a bass eye staring at me literally about 6 inches from my mask. I often wonder if you could grab them if you were quick enough . At least it proves I'm stealthy enough not to spook them.

This bass just wizzed up on a dive and ground to halt right next to my face. It was good to see how maneuverable they can be as he stopped dead...made a slight adjustment to eye me with suspicion and then hot tailed it out of there.

This is the story of my life this week, seen about 6 decent (5lb+) ones, they all come in, stop dead, but in my case quite far away, then BOOM! gone.....so frustrating, I couldn't be lying more still in the weed if I was dead I swear....sigh, I'll try again later on at low tide today, and if I don't get anything i'm taking up knitting Haven't had a dry spell like this since about 1942

I set the alarm for 5:45 this morning but obviously thought better of it and switched it off. Oh the horror when i woke up again at 8:30 and realised i'd missed the tide. It's odd how women don't seem to be able to grasp the severity of a situation like this! Anyway, headed over to a local north coast spot and gave it my best shot but it was pants, vis was good though 8m in places i'd say and a small swell running but a total mullet-fest and only four 10inch schoolies spotted for 3 hours diving.I did take one okay mullet and can now safely answer the question:

"Would you shoot a 5-6lb sea trout if one cruised by?"

.......with a firm "No!" although after initially thinkng it was a bass i had to take my finger off the trigger because i couldn't stop tracking it. God it would have been delicious.
Two guys turned up with guns as i was getting out but i think my tales of mullet and little else led them back up to their car and away to somewhere else.
It may take some creeping but i'm rather keen to get in on low later down south.

got in today with gutshot on the north coast, all i can say it was shite, so got out the water and drove to the south coast again not very good on my terms:head:head gutshot had a nice bass though.On sea trout had a 6lber i could have poked in the eye with my thumb but didnt take the shot, also seen a couple of smaller ones, and gutshot had one on the end of his spear today an denied the shot, there is that thing in the back of your mind thinking i should of bagged him but we dont, never mind theres always tommorrow.........

Good to hear you've all been enjoying this spot of fine weather.
Had a fantastic session today on the south coast even though I caught diddley squat.

Saw lots of mullet, pollack and a hoofing great bass which wiggled its fillets at me but he was far too fast. Had a red wine hangover so could not get my eye in at all. Was also not wearing open cell and felt borderline hypothermic throughout - lesson learned (again!). Big seal about as well.

Felt soooo good to be back in the water after a month off spearfishing. Its all looking very beautiful underwater at this time of year.

Saturday drove to Cornish waters. Viz was not as good as I had hoped and also a bit of swell that made things tricky. A few medium sized Bass all seen far too late to shoot, but managed a Mullet which is becoming the staple diet at our house this year :head

Unlike Badlander my body alarm woke me up at 5am this morning despite the alarm being set for later. Ventrued out in my own local waters on the Yak to get one of my favourite coves. 3 Mullet , best 4lb but not a single Bass

Went in again this evening from the shore and had a good dive laying underneath blankets of baitfish. Lots of school Bass so fingers crossed they survive the next few years!

I told you summer was around the corner! Mackeral in the rock pools by the end of the week

Had a nice paddle out on SE coast today. Busy with tourist boats. After catching loads of bass in June, my drought continues on that front. Sounds like they've all gone west. Infact the seas round this way have been shockingly quiet recently. I did catch my first mullet today though, which felt good. Enjoyed the taste too. Got followed in by a seal. Always good being out on the water, but even better when there's no swell (or wind) and the sun's out. Rare for me that tides and conditions coincide with time / permission to go. Hope to get a few more dives in before it gets too cold for me.

Again i found myself in the situation with a sea trout for the taking. I also thought it was a bass at first but when i saw how much more streamlined and spotty it was and i resolved to watch it cruise by. Not quite 5-6lb, but not far off!


Also, like badlander, i found myself up at some ungodly hour and met up with spearflaps. He has already told you about the lack of bass but he convinced me into another dive, else where, which was good as i found myself taking home a nice bass, which was one more bass that spearflaps managed :t:t. It was odd as 2 days before i had a great time. Not wall to wall bass but enough to chuck a few in the freezer!

A very apt Radiohead song and spearfishing.......these are a few of my favourite things. It won't let me give you any rep Gutshot but that vid deserves it.

Did manage to get in again yesterdaqy after all as my daughter had a kiddies party way way way out west which over looked some very fishy looking ground. Nipped in for the last hour of light and nabbed a couple of bass and a mullet which made a delicious fish pie tonight.Vis was nice at around 5m or so and the terrain was terrific with really deep kelp and stringweed. As i got out i had a full on Q&A session about spearfishing with the kids parents and gave them the bass. Think i may have converted a couple to spearfishing.
First day of college today...forms forms and more forms. Get to go tank diving on Friday though.
