Went in again today, south coast, at low tide to look for flatties. It was a ghost town down there in terms of takers. Lots of wrasse, baby pollack and smelt looking things darting about. Was in for a good couple of hours and only saw one small Bass who was really edgy. Still had a bloody good dive hiding in the kelp watching the little fish around me. Always cool .

Had a chat with a kayak spearo who had not had any luck either.

Spent the day out doing work experience for my course. So that was a day out fishing for new stock for an aquarium. Loads of black bream! Not use to handling a fish which does'nt have a spear thru its head! I thought about it as a spearing spot but 30m is pushing it when its 2miles off shore! Tis going to be hard work this new career!:t

Looks like I will be an ambassador for our sport on Friday.
I've been invited to go on a fishing show on SoUrCE FM 96.1 to discuss spearfishing with the host. The show will be aired live starting at 5pm.

Could be a good opportunity to get our perspective across to local anglers (if anyone is listening rofl).

I've been warned that it could be a "Hot Potato" feature .

Damn! I just got in and read your post above. Manage to catch the closing few minutes where you talked about cleaning up the litter you find.Bloody great bit of PR work there mate. Although that's where my connection cut out again just as it sounded like the other guy was making excuses for the presence of such items. Hope it all went well!

Just dived the south coast. Water still feels nice and warm and the vis was pretty good too. I watched a seal beofre i went in and decided maybe heading somewhere else but it's a long walk an i'm pretty lazy so i joined Mr Seal. Didn't see any bass but quite a few mullet. Thought i'd given the seal the slip but i was slowly making my way up a gully only to look over my shoulder and see him right behind me. Shat my pants did you?. Damn straight! It must be the time of year but a fatter seal i have never seen! We went our seperate ways after that and i got a mullet to take home.

I was going off the north coast rod fishing for bream but when we got there the wind had picked up and it was a no go for the kayaks. Back on the road down to the south coast to a spot i have been meaning to try out all summer. When we got there it was perfect. Spearflap wanted to go the other way to a reef closer in but i managed to talk him around which was a good job. I have just found another favorite spot. After locating the reef i did a couple of dives to check it out. Fishless! I grabbed my speargun and found my first house sized gully. There were more fish than i could shack a stick at! Mainly pollock but behind them were the bass. Loads of great gullies and overhangs. Slim, swim thru's with bass hanging in them. 3 Good bass came home with me. I could have had more but i was trying to try a new way of hunting. I had to do a quick change of gun because my 110 was too big to move around in the gullies but with the help of my 90 i got 2 of my bass with it. I did a quick trip over to the other reef which didnt seem as fishy but i did manage 3 mackerel on the rod while paddling over. The back to the beach past all the kayak fishermen who were fishless but very interested in what i had.roflroflrofl. I will be going there again asap. I just wish i'd followed my gut feeling about it a few months back!:head

Today was earmarked for a dive and driven on by Gutshot and the south devon boys favourable report's i decided to try out a new south coast spot. Managed to drag my neighbour along who's hardly been in at all this year and was hungry for a bass. Checked this spot out on google earth but sadly didn't check the best route to it so ended up parking at the opposite end of the beach and had to walk bloody miles. Vis was alright, 5-8m and the light was fading as was the wind. At first it was slow going as we cruised the shallows checking the stringweed but after about a half hour i found a small bass hanging around which perked up my attention levels. Decided to give the deeper water a go and straight away had a few bass come in and managed one but it was smaller than i'd hoped. Swam on a bit more and suddenly i noticed a few bass below me, then some more and more until i was totally surrounded by them.Couldn't really decide about their size so i dived to get a better gauge of them and realised they were all pretty good size and there were 60-80 of the buggers....One of the most memorable things i've ever seen spearing. Took one from the group and figured they'd probably bugger off but every dive from then on drew in loads of bass and all good size too. I think i saw more good bass today than i've seen all year combined.
It really was a dream session. As soon as the tide stopped though they all dissapeared and i hooked back up with my mate who'd had a shocker and only managed a mullet but still enjoyed it.
Dive of the year for me without a doubt.

Great report badlander. I have always had a thing for a little adventure so i am always looking for new spots to surf and dive. Sometimes the hard work pays off, sometimes it does'nt but, if you don't go, you don't know!!

Just going back to something i wrote a while back, i saw this and thought it was something you guys should watch. It is fairly long but well worth while. Some great tips, and frightening footage!

Cheers mate. I'm a bit gutted i didn't take the camera along though, it would have been the most amazing footage i reckon. Couldn't find the right strap though and couldn't be arsed to look for it! Ah well, probably wouldn't have seen a thing if i took it.

Good to see you've been doing well chaps! There are some stunning fish about. Hooked up with some friends for a beach barbeque on the south coast. I was the only one spearing and was determined to get some fresh fish. Vis was superb and I managed to take a nice Golden Grey Mullet (my first :friday) and two regular greys, all of nice size. Did not manage to weigh the GG but it was a stunning fish (strangely slimy!) Had a laugh feeding the mullet gizzards to a posse of velvet swimming crabs. Noticed a lot of nice prawns about as well.
Mullets went down nicely cooked over charcoal in foil with butter and lemon.
Later on I went in for a snorkel without the speargun and saw a beauty of a Bass winding its way below me, a large pollack and monster wrasse. Certainly my best session for ages.

The GG is the one at the bottom with the really distinctive gold fleck.

Badlander, the next time i go out to that new reef again i will be taking my camera. Amazing swim thrus! As you saw, loads of fish. Just looking for the right time.

Scott, i am also looking at my diving. I dropped more wieght the other day on my last kayak dive and found myself gliding effortlessly. There is some great info on the film.

Had a nice night dive this evening, took home a nice bass, first fish i've had in a while, i've been having a serious drought (just one Pollack in the last week).

It was my girlfriends first night outing tonight so it was great fun and there was some comedy passing torches around when I spotted the bass then tried to load my gun (just put new rubbers on it and its bloody hard!) while she tracked the bass with the light. Good team effort!

Saw some small red mullet, an unidentified fish.... sea trout ? Caught a small Plaice with my hand, all in all great fun!

Hey Guys,

I live in Abaco (Bahamas). I am usually out spearing twice a week. My parents live in Port Mellon, Mevegissey and I am coming over in December. Do any of you hard core guys dive all year round. Is there much fish action in the winter? I am thinking of bringing my gear. I really want to get in and brave the cold!!
