Congratulations to all the spearos able to get in the water and bag a bass this season. It looks like everyone had a great week's spearing and surfing. I'm stuck on a boat off the outer hebridies for the next 2 weeks (been here a fortnight already). If it's possible, could you all leave a few for me?

Dived Falmouth area today over some new ground. Water was very warm and seems to be settling down after the easterly period. Still some chop. (Vis and chop looked worse at Maenporth).
Took a Flounder for tonight's supper. No mullet or Bass seen. Saw a 4ft Conger out in open ground rummaging through the rocks and kelp. First one I have seen so I just observed its behaviour.
Anyone else been out????

Well doc told me the metal work in my leg is infected today and it`ll mean surgery to take the plate out at some point, so i said fuck it and went in the sea.
First spear in 3 months, badly out of shape, vis wasnt great and i didnt fire once at a target.
Still was WONDERFULL to get in the water.
Saw a decent pollack but was fighting to load my Gabbiano which im having tremendous trouble with (first time ive used it)
I find the spear doesnt fit into the locking mechanism well, i have to push down on the back of the spear while i push it in, and twice it slipped out when i loaded it, and i find the mono setup much more time consuming to load (the mono holds the spear in place). Ah well im sure ill get used to it with time.

I find that with my o.me.r cayman 75 you have to push the spear into the mechanism and depress the trigger until you feel a component click or engage. Otherwise the spear will just fall out. With the open muzzle its then a case of wrapping and also tensioning the line. I fitted a home-built bungee/shock absorber on one end of the shooting line just before the reel which then lets me use the reel to tighten up the rigging so nothing is loose.
I'm sure you will fine tune the gun in no time mate.
Great training tables application by the way. I've used it a few times now and love the interface.

With my gabby I just place the back of the spear into the mech and then give it a good old push and a waggle untill I feel a positive click. Then pull the spear firmly and see if it remains locked... if so then you're all good to go.
I'm extremely fond of mine and use a nylon/kevlar based line rather than mono and find it easier to see in the water, however once you have used a mono set up for a while you tend to find that the line takes the shape of the gun - making it much quicker to position over the open muzzle.
In fact, if i'm honest, the only reason I dont use mono is because i've never got round to buying a decent crimping tool - and if I sort that out this season then i'd imagine i'd never go back.

Huw, I know some folk have said you need to invest in a quality crimping tool but I use & have used for many years a basic crimping tool available from any angling shop for a few £. Never - ever - so far had a crimp fail on me?

Well after my warm up yesterday didnt seem to do any harm to the cut on my leg i decided to hit my favourite south coast spot and try out my new elios suit.....
Wow amazing, I know it was a warm day but 6 hours later I was still warm I only got out because I was hungry! Comfy, incredibly warm all round great. It was a bit more floaty than my old suit so i will be adding more weight that was the only problem.
Saw a few Bream which Is unusual, are they like the ninjas of the fish world?! Im sure they were dodging my spears! I'm probably just getting used to the gabbiano. The 3rd escaped with its life cos I must have messed up the mono and it didnt release when i fired so the spear stopped about an inch shy of the fish lol
I gut shot a mullet and it got away but on my way back in I encountered it again and made sure I got it, dont like leaving injured fish around. Got one more mullet and a decent flounder in the end.
The nice big fish were hiding from me I glimpsed a couple of nice big mullet but that was that.
All round great day though!

Big ditto, was thinking the same yesterday...never ever have I had one fail...pair of pliers did in the old days.

i would ahve thought there would have been a bigger spearing scene in cornwall but it seems that there isnt youre right u do have warmer waters bue to the strem being closer
I think it would be a really good idea although we all know that stocks are low due to the interlopers coming in and nicking all our fish!!! Joke!!!
REddie and myself did suggest a get together a while ago as unfortunately, due to 3 little financial drains and a wife that works every other weekend and a lot of evenings - travelling to other counties is a lttle difficult!!!
