I think you would get a good response but be warned it takes quite a lot of work to get people together on a set date.
In fact I myself have been thinking about starting a thread to see how much interest there would be for a 2010 Cornwall fish-in but I would far rather you did it:t

Seeing as people all have their different commitments, I was thinking along the lines of short-notice BBqs at a particular spot PM'd in advance on a given weekend. A kind of ongoing, low-key "Flash Mob" sort of thing and relatively easy going (i.e. family\partner friendly).

Foxfish, I like the idea of a fish-in to make it more of a DeeperBlue social event. Better for getting together with spearos from further afield perhaps. Any tips would be good drawing from your previous experiences.

Tips - well first start a thread to see who is interested then advertise & link the thread on all the relevant threads on db.
Then perhaps discuss the venue, the dates, the accommodation, travel options etc.
Just start the thread with a obviouse title like "Holiday Cornwall fish-in" & post in on the beach bar that way you might even attract other db members from outside the UK.
You will need to keep members in touch by linking the thread every month on this thread & maybe the Dorset, Devon threads ect.

Jim (stuckinsurrey) and myself used to come down to Cornwall for a long weekend of spearing and drinking before Foxy started the Guernsey fishin’s.
I’d defiantly be up for a 2010 Cornwall spearing break and I’d say that Jim would too.
I reckon that quite a few of the Dorset mafia would also be in for a Cornish break as long as they had enough time to sort it out with holiday times at work.

Has there ever been a spearfishing freediving social scene or event down here in Cornwall?

Or does the forum, and its assumed identities, suffice??

Seems a bit quiet down here considering we have such nice water!

Exe club has some spearfishermen who travel up from cornwall when we hold boat dives and shore dives though out the summer. Most club dives are held in south west. There is Bsa spearfishing comp at talland bay this year, chance to meet alot top divers.

Ok mate, I will. Just a case of sharing some basic weather, time and location intel amongst ourselves (board and PM) on an ad hoc basis. No need to give away your favourite marks. Feel free to chime in here with ideas though.

Took my first ever Dover Sole this evening (north coast). 1.5lb.

I came by it by pure chance when diving to wait for Bass. Now wondering how frequent these fish are? Am I likely to find others in the same area? Do they move around? Seasonal?

I think a casual get together is a cracking idea. I would offer to run with the whole shabang but cannot plan ahead very well this year due to work/family/study commitments, but am happy to assist and will be there if I can.

Venue wise, I guess mid/west of county, and probably s. coast for ease of access and more reliable conditions. Perhaps consider boat access? Oh and don't forget toilets for the ladies!

On a different note I am off to make the best of the weather on s.coast (Royal Cornwall Show traffic buggering up the north coast) this pm before the winds pick up again. I enjoyed cuttlefish for the first time on tues - great recipe for 'Risotto Negra' using the ink from the cuttlefish. it tasted VERY good; much better than expected - recommended.

Went in on the south coast again today, a little bit of chop and maybe a tiny bit of south swell coming in as the tide came in? Still a successful dive, snagged a couple of those elusive Sea Bream , a 3lb Bass and a little mullet.

Missed the Bass of the day but was happy with my haul.

Came back to North coast to find conditions looking much better this evening though.

I have only managed to shoot one bream in 30 odd years so well done from me

I was really pleased looking forward to eating it Ive never had bream before.

Spiny little fighters arnt they! I took some stabs from the biggest one!

I was also in at south coast. Conditions were great! But still came home with an empty stringer. Saw loads of bass though plenty of scoolies almost every dive with a few up to 3lb mixed in, but they were very flighty. I couldn't get them to come within 10 feet of me lying on the bottom with head down and eyes sqinted almost shut. Saw a few 4-5lb nestled in on the bottom in about 8m (vis was great) but no matter how I tried to drift down, either by circling away and then creaping up on them, or by dropping straight down I was shown a powerful shake of a tail. It was full sun on a rising tide, perhaps that makes the buggers more active/nervous, or maybe the excellent vis played a part. I have never experienced such shy fish in previous years - would be glad to here your thoughts.

Well done on the Bream BTW. Good catch!

Tong, Rowan.Harvey and myself went off a deep reef last Tuesday. The viz was brilliant at 10m, even on a setting sun. I didn't see a single bass less than 5-6lb, and I couldn't get anywhere near the fish. I tried every tactic possible. They just saw you coming a mile away. They were all hanging around the tops of the deeper reefs and not in the gullies. I think viz definatly plays a part (unless your name is Shiny1) in getting close.
