The hundredth entry in the Hall of Fame was added today. If you haven't looked lately there are some great new catches.

The Fish of the Month UK is also doing well. Some diverse entries this month. Remember the winner is by popular vote so a novices catch or an unusual fish may well be a worthy entry and even a winner.

Have a check of the rules for HOF and FOM and bare in mind for when you make that special catch.

Saw my first conger today, i have a feeling it was sneaking up behind me as when i surfaced it cruised by exactly where i had been... creeped me out a little lol

I followed it back down and had a good shot at the back of its head..... but chickened out

Looked to be about 4-5ft long I think and with my lack of experience with these animals I decided discretion was the better part of valour was cool to see though!

Everytime i dived down to sit in the kelp after that i was watching my back though lol

I'll second foxfish. Like you Padaxes I've had my gun right on a conger but I did not want to kill it. Same goes for a Thornback which I could have taken with my knife it was so docile. Maybe this restraint makes me a wuss or less of a man in some people's eyes. I can live with that.

My understanding from the yakking crew is that there is some at Falmouth (not sure where) but it is clear from Pendower up to the Dodman -

Hi Guys,

Me and DaffydRees are planning a long weekend spearing for the bank holiday and are trying to decide whether we should go down to the lizard or up to wales. Our preference would be the mighty lizard herself but like tonyeynon we don't want to be dissapointed by the red tide so any regular updates would be hugely welcome

Whats the score on the south coast for the next few days? With the Red algae and the wind / swell wondering if a 48hr trip to the South Coast is worth it.

Fingers crossed for a late summer but I think we are venturing into Autumn Swells already. Have spent the last couple of weeks catching waves more than spearing.

"Saw" Mr G?.......I for one have had a couple of runs in the rib but not even bothering spearing...I am just surfing myself silly at the moment....
Gutshot....'Kiddies Corner' was thick on low today with a few tidy barrels....just piles of kelp stuck on the inside to tow back out on your leash...

Had a bass last night and willi nailed a mackerel (caught in on vid too!) Bit of a scrap with a bull seal as he was trying to snatch the catch, which drew an audience as I was exiting the water! Bass ended up a bit worse for wear but we still scoffed it! Rough as today so no vis (grr)

Hi I am new to the forum. I am going to Padstow this weekend and wondered if any1 new some good spots for flatties and bass round there? I also would like to know the same for st-ives and the lizard I am spending all of next week there. any thoughts would be appreciated.

I looked over to kiddies but it looked small so i headed out off the river. Got a few but it was hard work!! I knew i should have paddled down! How much longer are you here for?? Over the weekend?

Will be in Padstow on Saturday and will then be moving further down into Cornwall for the duration of the next week. Probably the Lizard direction??

I was at Swanpool falmouth this morning with the high tide. Vis was really bad, no red tide but just generaly very poor, even in the sheltered bay. Didnt see any Bass and missed 2 really easy shots on a couple of desent sized Pollack. I think my new gun is shooting lower than old one so I need to start adjusting my aim!

I nice warm morning though and even got there early enough to watch the sun come up - outstanding!

Vis seemed to be clearing a little when I was leaving so may pop out again later on

I was in before high tide this morning as well, on the south coast. Had the same problem with the viz, hopefully will be able to get in again over the weekend.

Only just started spearfishing, so I am still trying to figure out where / when to go! Loving it so far, nothing like catching your own dinner!

I guess the wind and rain yesterday churned the sea up? How long should it take to clear?
