Hey Tom , welcome to DB. It depends on where you are fishing, my brother spoke to a person at a dive centre this morning who said they had good viz this morning with prospects of it clearing even more, in the next few days being very likely.

Hey chaps, I went again for low tide at swanpool and the vis was a noticably better already. Tagged a nice pollack for supper, saw a few small bass but not worth going for. Saw my first seal when I was bottem side - scared the bejesus out of me?! Also saw a lot of doggys which I've not seen before. Didnt fancy one though - does anyone here eat these?
Back out this morning, vis was a lot better than yesterday but no fish anywhere? Its was like a ghost town down there. I think swanpool maybe better on a low tide - does anyone else find there spots are better on a low tide?
Going to try my luck at Talland bay tomorrow I think, anyone got any recent reports from there?

Had a dive on the south coast today, vis wasn't too good in the shallows but better a bit further out in places at least.
Good enough to take home 3 bass at anyrate
Had a bit of a play with my new seal friend as well
Certainly sorted out my hangover anyway!
Im never quite sure how to measure visibility , is it the range you could spot a fish at? because sometimes when its hazy you can make out rocks and weed but nothing else. Is it how far you can see or how far you can see usefully? lol

Great videos. The water looked choppy in sennen. I love diving sennen, how the kelp is so big you sink right into it and struggle to find a good view out of it!

Good question , on scuba it's the distance at which you can recognize the silhouette of a diver . Don't know of a standard for spearing , would be interesting to find out what people use , I think I'd probably say how far you can see .
I'd have probably done the same as you gutshot.Lay there with the gun trained on him thinking how bloody lucky he was not to be on my dinner menu.
Finally got the new part i lost from my gabbiano! However, as most gabbiano owners will have noticed, sometimes when inserting the spear, you have to give it really gun shove and wait to hear a definate click or when you go to load it'll just come straight out again.Well mine had passed this point and now simply wouldn't engage at all so i decided to take it apart and try to fix it.Pretty easy to get it stripped down but be very careful with the anodised metal casing (as i learnt to my cost). The trouble with the spear locking is all down to a tiny little spring that returns the mech into place after you've pulled the trigger.I had a bugger of a time trying to find the best way for it as when i pulled the two parts of the handle apart everything just fell out.
Anyway, after a fair bit of cursing i finally had it all back together and thought i'd just clean out some corrosion on the inside of the metal casing.Bad idea as in removing the handle i must have caused a hairline crack which snapped when i scrubbed it.
Not sure if it'll compromise the gun in any way as i plan to wrap a shed load of tape round it but at least the spear lock is now as good as new!

Saw my first conger today, i have a feeling it was sneaking up behind me as when i surfaced it cruised by exactly where i had been... creeped me out a little lol
I followed it back down and had a good shot at the back of its head..... but chickened out
Looked to be about 4-5ft long I think and with my lack of experience with these animals I decided discretion was the better part of valourwas cool to see though!
Everytime i dived down to sit in the kelp after that i was watching my back though lol
My old man used to tell me stories about skinning conger using boiling water, and having hell of a job cooking them - anyone got any "conger cooking" tips? I've seen a few of them over the years, but haven't bothered with them for exactly that reason, I just wouldnt eat it. I don't think you're a wuss either for not taking it Padaxes, unless you really do have a hankering for battered conger like these guys:

I nearly lost the whole rubber attachment off mine the other day I had just caught a fish and put it in the float and the spear was hanging down by its line, as i looked down i saw the rubbers and their plastic attachment had fallen off and was hanging on my flopper, it just slipped off and i had a frantic dive to rescue it before it disappeared into the gloom lol
Worth keeping an eye on!

I went thru a patch of not eating them but now i usually take one every dive. I would e choosy as to where i got it from as they do like to feed on what ever is floating around. I guess you didnt dive near a poo pipe did you? Also ones from muddy rivers tend to taste a little muddy. I know some will disagree but they seem to be the marmite of the fish world. Great fried with bread crumbs. Fill your boots.
Tony mullet are a bit unpredictable on the taste front, unlike bass they can vary from one fish to the next however they can be good.
Best tip is to remove the red strip of flesh that is the fishes lateral line & main sense organ, best to fillet & skin the fish as cooked whole they can also be a tad on the strong side!
Take off two fillets, skin the fillets & cut out the lateral line you will in effect have four fillets, soak the flesh in salted water & lime juice for 5 mins, pat dry & fry in hot olive oil.
Dont move the fillets around in the pan just watch for the sides to colour & start to crisp, flick over the fish & further cook for the same effect = about as good as mullet gets.
