Dammed decent of you gents.

Just got to get down there now.

Not been out for a week as we've had enough fish so no driver to get any more.

Have got 3 weeks off coming up and we're staying local. Better still I've got the first 4 days from Monday with no family obligations. So I hope to get out spearing and kayaking most of those days. Aiming to get my first night dives in too. The weather is even looking like it might play ball at the moment.

I'll be staying at Pentewan most of the time and heading out from there to different spots. I haven't dived Pentewan yet so will check that out too. Don't anticipate it being too special though. If any of you local boys want to meet up to check it out, let me know. I'm guessing the beach might be worth a go for a night dive as it looks like there might be the odd flattie, and it's a stretch of water I think I'll feel comfortable in.

I'm also wondering if I can do some one way trips and get my other half to pick me up or drop me off depending on tides. Any warnings about areas to avoid from St Austell bay round to about Carhays greatfully recieved. I know a chunck of it from dives I've done, but I'm normally out to a point and back, without going round it, so I'm cautious about the bits in the middle if that makes sense.

another quick question tho

I know in general that bass come in for the summer months but what is the latest time of the year anyone has shot one? is there a chance of them still being around november/december time? being cornwall specific.

Hello all; I dont post on here that often but I am going to be heading home to Kernow next month and hoping to get a few dives in whilst I am home. if anyone has recently dived in the lizard/poldhu/kennack area could they share any details on the conditions and what I can expect to see in Ocober?

LOST GEAR PORTHCURNO

Helped out a local guy with a weight belt to get started. Unfortunately conditions caught him out and he lost his gun / mask / weightbelt / fins and ripped his wetsuit to shreds.

The guy has got all the passion to be a great spearo, and this is obviously a major loss of gear.

If any locals recover any of the gear would appreciate a pm. I understand its "booty" and doesn't need to be returned but any gear found would be a bonus. I can describe the gear.

It could have happened to any of us in our first days of spearing! Sometimes our enthusiasm gets the better of us.

Pav a customer of mine has just come back from holiday and has brought in a speargun that he found (as he knows that i spearfish) down at Praa Sands, send us a PM with the details of the gun that was lost and if its yours then i have it up here in sunny Somerset.

Got in for three hours yesterday. Vis was pretty good but didn't see any takable fish, which is unusual. Might try to get in at a sheltered spot nearer low tide today to see what's about.

Night dived a new south coast spot last night with Andy. Did pretty well on the fish front, two bass each with the biggest being 4.5lb. He had a stomach full of crabs so i'm hoping he's going to be tasty. I've swapped the other one I caught with the neighbours for some home grown veg so it should be a good free dinner tonight!

Saw all the other usual critters, cuttlefish, baby squid and lots of crabs, but we also saw what i'm fairly sure was a baby conger eel? It was about 50-60cm long and weaving it's way through the rocks in about 4ft of water! Pretty cool to watch, seem big ones in holes whilst on scuba, but i've never seen one in the open.

Oh and the viz was... uhh... dark!rofl

Got in earlier for a few hours at a new spot for me. Saw a few mullet and a place but nothing else. Wasn't sure if the place was big enough, and by the time I did he scooted off. Is there a sencible minimum?

Looking forward to my first night dive later this week or begining of next.

Its worth finding out if the spot you are fishing/diving has any bylaws on sizes or restrictions/ limits

I'd guess this one was about 35cm. I dont normally eat place so I wasn't sure how big they need to be to get a decent meal out of them. No point taking a minimum fish if it isn't worth eating.

IMHO there is no better eating fish in the sea than a small plaice. Irrespective of controversy on taking small (or large) specimens I don't think you can beat a 30cm-40cm plaice. Minimum size is 25cm nose to tip of tail, which is small (but legal). My hand span is 24/25cm so if in doubt I use a hand span from tip of snout to root of tail, leaving the length of the tail as the "extra" safety margin.

Just a quick post to warn anyone going out of Talland Bay, there are various nets dropped from the right hand point all the way to polperro and hes moving them about every evening :rcard:rcard:rcard

Took my go pro night diving, I wasn't expecting it to be great, but some of the clips came out ok. I guess the wide angle lens narrows down the torch beam, got a bit too close on some of the clips and it just gives white glare.

Anyway main reason for the vid is does anyone know what the fish between 1:46 and 2:19 is? Seen them a few times, about 25cm long, quite 'athletic' looking with a yellowish tint to their fins. From above the pectoral fins are long and curved and they have a row of prominent scales down the side. They have quite a rounded head and a large lower jaw. Really inquistive, came across a group of about 5 and they all rushed straight up when I dived. Can anyone identify them from the rather dodgy video clips!?
