Anybody heard anything of a tuna caught on praa sands last week?

lost really lost- World Sea Fishing Forums | Sea Angling and Sea Fishing Online | Fishing Reports

Seems a bit early for an April fools joke.....

Apparent story of its capture..."A gentleman was walking his dogs on praa sands beach he saw something in a beach pool, he ripped his shoes and socks off rolled his trousers up waded in and mugged a tuna, had a fight with it on the beach, took it to his mates house asked him what it was worth got told about 30quid, so he had it filleted there and then and had a share out"

Dear god! Not totally surprised if it turns out to be true after that feeding frenzy i watched off the north coast last week. At the same time though i would be equally unsurprised if someone was massively taking the piss.

hi all, just having a read through and it doesn't seem like its too fishy out there at the moment, are there any late bass still out there? if not what's it like for flatties around this time? got a fair bit of new gear recently so hoping to get out and try it all soon with a possible night dive on the cards :D

I know...just don't know what to believe! According to that forum another one was found washed up in the surf a little further up the coast at the weekend - confirmed as a Blue fin by plymouth aquarium! Weighed in at circa 60lb!! Now wouldn't that be fun on a spear / light spinning tackle!!??!?

If you ever read any of the Zane Grey fishing books like Anglers Eldorado, you can read about some of Mitchell-Henry's south seas adventures.
However those type of 1920-30s books are not for the conservationist!!

Managed to gather the courage and went in yesterday around the Roseland area. Nice viz about 5-8meters but did not see anything at all.
Crossed a small shall of anchovies on the way back (2", transparent, I assume anchovies?).
After 30min, hands were freezing, need to find some good gloves. Still, nice to go in.

Well done. I keep threatening to myself but the surf's just been too good. Looks like some prolonged wind out of the north this week so i'm hoping to have a night dive on the south coast.

Hey all.. just got back from an epic trip to Indo. Was hoping to bag some Dogtooth Tuna out in bluewater but the day we were in the 'good area' conditions worsened by the hour to the point where our outrigger captain (with no knowledge of spearfishing whatsoever) was struggling to find us in the growing swell - yup that could of got interesting.. being about 2 miles offshore in a 4/5 knot current!

Luckily before the swell picked up we had a few opportunities to dive the Liberty Shipwreck in Tulamben.. Something I will never forget - its crazy how fish know when they're in a green zone.. you can get so close to them!!! Got some great footage (which I am editing up) but thought I'd whack some pics up of the huge school of trevally.. which was seemingly guarded by about 8 GT's.. all around the 60lb mark. An amazing sight.

Thought I'd be a bit gutted about the spearfishing but to be honest it was a huge learning curve to dive with someone with so much experience.. and on the plus side.. the surf was off the hook for the whole 3 weeks.. so really.. I was just happy to come back alive!! :D

Wow, those Indo pics are awesome! Love the one of you with the shoal behind you. Could do with some of that warm water right now...

Anyway, not been on here for ages. Have got rather addicted to surfing the past couple of months :)

Went for a quick dive this afternoon though, nice viz, about 5m ish. Managed three scallops, and two of the biggest oysters i've ever seen! Got some nice pics of a couple of thornback rays as well, will try and stick them up later.

Just back from a night dive on the south coast. New dive torch is a great improvement from the old one. Vis was pretty good for the shallow depths i was cruising in. Saw a couple of bass but both probably just under size and a handfull of palm sized flounder. Loads of crabs and baitfish around and i was actually rather surprised by the ammount of life! Still came home empty handed but i'm not complaining since it's the first dive of the year.

So you finally made it - ditch the surf and start the diving for this year!
A night dive in winter... I still haven't tried night diving - to do this alone is a bit of a worry for me; think I'll stick to the day!
I plan on going on Saturday morning, south cost - still to decide a spot but weather is looking ok so fingers crossed.

Not been on here for a while as I have had a busy 6 months with the arrival of our son. But its getting to that time of the year so I decided to brush the dust off the gear and get out with Gareth (Googlyfloogly) to test our new boat out for this years spearfishing.
It turned out to be quite a productive day with with Gareth bagging two huge flounders and me bagging 3 flounders a small plaice and a dover sole which is unusual for February, I must admit it looked like it had escaped a trawler net and the jaws of a seal or shark but it still tasted nice :)

No fear of spear fishing of me in these waters! But I have been in surfing a fair bit. Had a surprise Saturday as was surfing at one of the few sheltered spots north of newquay and fish were jumping. Couldn,t clock what they were until paddling out a mackerel jumped right in front of me. Never expected to see mackerel at this time of year. Strange? or have others spotted them?
