Hi all, I am interested in getting in the water soon, bit of a novice and only been out a few times but keen nonetheless!!

Well looks like you're well placed for some good spots in a variety of conditions.

Not seen many reports of fish about yet, but the week ahead might yeild some good conditions.

Ought to dust my gear off for the season ahead.

Cheers mate, thanks for the reply! I have been sorting through my kit this morning and it's all good to go, I may take a mooch over to the lizard over the next few days to have a look.........

Yep.. dusting off the gear and prepping the outboard for the new season.. not long till a little scout about is on the cards!

I know it's not Cornwall I thought I'd post it up anyways.. this is the vid compiled from my January 2012 surf/dive trip to Bali.. same trip I uploaded the photos of.. I think the diving starts at about 3:00 minutes. To dive with fish that close was an awesome experience! Video Link - https://vimeo.com/37423141
(not sure how to get it to show here!)

Just posted in another part of the forum re. Suits. I am looking at maybe using a regular steamer suit instead of my Omer suit this year, is anyone out there doing the same?

I will Sometimes use a reg (winter surf) streamer when I need to walk into a spot or have a cliff climb as it saves a lot of lead weight! I also like the option if exploring in he yak as easy to put on,off quickly. However not close to the warmth offerd by a free dive wetsuit.

Thanks for your input mate, I cracked yesterday and ordered a new suit from Apnea, I went for the 3D camo 5mm so fingers crossed that will work out for me and it will give me a good excuse to get in the water.....

You won’t go wrong with a 5mm suit MrHogan good for the summer and winter alike.
The water is about as cold now as it’ll get and my 5mm suits have always done me proud, that and as Pav said the freedive suits are so much more comfortable than a surf suit.
Good luck with the first dive of the year:)

Yeah. Would be good to know on the viz front.

Contemplating getting in tomorrow after work if I can juggle meetings etc to get away promptly. It's that or an early start.

This high over us should have helped. I see the surf dropping right off, and days of light winds should have helped for a lot of spots as long as they dont face East.

Anyone share my thinking or have other ideas?

ive got the 3d camu suit (5mm) and it is very warm. ive been diving all winter for as long as 4.5 hours. i keep overheating in it and have to keep pulling my hood open to let water in to cool down....... cant fault the suits at all

Got in this morning for a quick dip. Great conditions not too cold and 4-5m vis, and a bit more in patches. No silver seen just a handful of wrass and a lone hand sized flounder.I think the mark has been picked clean by the seal I saw there last time, still nice to get in.

I'm getting in after work this Wednesday. I'm determined to get in more this year. I got a couple of decent flounder last month which has made me think that winter dives aren't just about pain and suffering. I bought a 7mm suit last autumn and it makes the difference - I would be wimping out pretty quick in my 5mm this time of year. With easter approaching, it's starting to feel like the season proper is almost upon us.

Waiting for my new suit to arrive and then it's all go, I was down on the lizard yesterday and despite the thick for, the water was flat calm and it looked pretty clear looking down on it from an elevated position of about 15 feet, fingers crossed the calm weather will hold and maybe next week I will be able to get out?! Fingers crossed........

I'm also thinking about getting in later today. Looks like it needs to be somewhere facing south west on the south coast and sheltered from the south easterlys. Got somewhere in mind between Truro and St Austell that I hope will be ok. Just got to be resolved to get on with it rather than the call of the sofa or a rabbiting session.

Anyone checked the vis in the last few days?

sj

Good luck if you get out later today, it's pretty cold in perran this morning so I think it's fly fishing or a bit of shooting for me today :)

Let us know if you see any silver fish. vis was 4-5m on monday in st austell but fish were still on their holidays.

Ah.

See it's comments like that that make me think I out to put the kit back in the garage for a few weeks, and grab the rifle and head out into the fields.

did a night dive on the South Coast last Sunday, terrible vis but did see a small Bass and a small mullet. Saw a shoal of small mullet the week before during the day. So there are fish around.
