DeeperBlue.com Announce 2015 UK Member Meet

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I have this week off work as I am entertaining a couple of UK bubble blowers. They have offered to assist in gathering scallops for Sunday night, but as they have never done a scallop dive before, the tally may not be too high. Fortunately Trelawney will be assisting towards the end of the week. If anyone else wants to join in, please let me know, also if anyone wants to be a boat handler so that I can get wet, it would be greatly appreciated.

Scallops would be fantastic Andy :) Mike it looks like it will be sunny and calm for the weekend but we have a 5' swell at the moment!

heard from Grant that vis is very poor (on south), hope it clears quickly when swell drops!

I don't think that it helps to have a huge digger on a barge digging up the sea bed for the last three months. It could be that the silt travels with the tide along the South coast and up to the North point too? West is best if the swell drops, it might just be clear for the weekend :)

south coast the day after F6 South winds. not gonna be noice.
West coast last Sunday had vis of about 8m over the sand, so should be fine by the weekend...

I'll be bringing my tech gear this time, so I can dive Wednesday afternoon/eve, any time Thursday and any time Friday. Is there a filling station on the island as I wouldn't mind diving a wreck or two if there is space. I can boat handle if you want to jump in.

Saturday the 1st August - Competition starts at 11am & finishes at 4.00pm. Low tide is at 14.20 @ 1.12m

Sunday the second August Competition starts at 12 noon & finishes at 5.00pm. Low tide is at 15.10 @ 0.9m.

Friday evening 7.00 at the Reunion (above the Rockmount at Cobo)

Saturday evening, 7.30 at the boathouse St Peter Port.

Sunday evening, 6.30 - 11.30pm at Craigwillan La Turquie Vale GY3 5EB

Fingers crossed that we have another super first prize for the captor of the most species :)

There will be two additions to the specimen list this year but only on a trial basis!

So if anyone catches any of the new additions, their specimens will not count towards the official list but, will be up for a prize!

Razor clams & Scallops are the new additions.

If any of you Jersey dudes want to bring any duty frees across, Port & Tequila went down very well last year!

Dived Fort Doyle today over high, it was pretty choppy and vis about 1.5 m - plenty pollock around up to 3lb and the occasional bigger one of maybe 4lb
Dived Pembroke after that - nice vis and lots of pollock again and more bass. Quite a nice venue as well for the comp I'd say. In the words of a well known local spearo - very fishy :)
Team member numbers - how about up to a max of 4. Makes it fairer for those of us who may want to dive in a pair with a regular dive partner? I think there is another pair potebtially so that removes any number issues.

The east coast is flat calm and good viz this afternoon and evening. If you fancy a hike, Fermain or Bec du Nez should be good for the next few days.

So folks - it's getting close to the event - very exciting!

Logistics i'll be sending an email out later tonight to everyone with final timetable of events. Locations of the dive sites will hopefully be decided tomorrow or Friday night.

There will be no freediving activities this year so only the Specimen Hunt.

You'll also be pleased to hear we have a number of prizes (sponsored by DB) to give away including:
Looking forward to it and see some of you tomorrow and everyone else Friday evening!

Hopefully today will se the end of this wind! Sundays wind is now forecast to be South Easterly making the west very suitable for diving, Saturday shows a 12mph Westerly but it might still be calm enough to be a good dive?
Granti Pembroke is a possibility but it is a very popular beach when the sun is out, there are normally wind suffers kite suffers jet skiers & pleasure boats in the bay but it would be sheltered from the west wind.
If anyone wants to hear some fishing gossip then Dave at Aladdin's Cave fishing supplies, is your man... over 20 shore caught Giltheads last week according to Dave! Also bream are now showing in numbers, so Dave says...

Another one down, this time it is Dorsetnic. Nic says she has to bad a back to travel so unfortunately won't be able to make it.
I am sure Mike will be very disappointed ;)

The Jersey boys r back in town!
