Hey Mart (fox fish),
Looking forward to the August meet in Guernsey. Remember to bring some spare speargun rubbers with you the is time so you can spend more than 10 minutes in the water:)
Should be a great weekend with some good sport and a few convivial beers around the barbie!
Steve

Don't forget to register Steve - need to know who is coming :)

Hi Steve, yes that was a bit of a disaster but I still managed two lobster & a 5lb mullet.
I will dig out a pic of that day...

Not sure if I can make this meet as something has come up, which means I'm not available for it......Gutted, but hope everyone has a great time and few fish are caught

This sounds awsome, a weekend of fish poking, eating and Roquettes :) with good company. Any more specifics or details about the specimen hunt? need to get my strategy sorted out ;)

Shame Scoobaru...maybe next time

Fro-in-shorts - looking forward to it. Don't forget to register so we know numbers! Details in first post.

Stephan, what is planned for the freediving side of things? will there be any tuition?

Hi guys, sounds good if I can make it down. Few questions; 1)I'm not exactly what you would call a skilled spisherman, is this aimed at more experienced spearos, or just anyone thats interested? Also, working on a bit of a budget, or lack thereof, so if I were to register and then not be able to make it, would that mess things up for you guys? Hoping to make it down to Jersey sometime under the pretence of visiting family, so maybe I could get the two dates to coincide...

Hi Isaac, no you certainly don't need to be anything other than willing to have some fun!
You can travel by boat pretty cheaply & camp if you like - wouldn't bother with jersey mate its horrible over there :mute

There will be spearfishing competitions but, nobody is obliged to enter if you dont want to as we have plenty of bays around the island to dive & spearfish in.

Hopefully there will opportunities to learn a bit from some of the guys, I will try to give out some fish filleting lessons plus fish & crab cooking advice too.
I also intend to show folk the proper way to drink alcohol.

Sounds good, I'll whack my name down, see how it goes! Might be obliged to visit Jersey anyways, maybe say hi to my entire maternal family who live there, Funnily enough, they said the same about Guernsey... :t
Haha fortunately I don't drink alcohol (my paycheck thanks me!) but when it comes to deliciously creamy Jersey gold top, I'll drink anyone under the table :friday :king
Anyhoos, ta for t'info, I'll get me name down dreckly :)

Just a note to say the filming of the big 20th Century fox movie has been rescheduled until mid summer - that means 120-150 film crew seeking accomadation so get your rooms booked soon!

I can send your profile in mate but I dont think there were many white bearded blue men around just after the war!
I have already turned down several leading parts myself due to the fact they involved kissing Kate.
However there are several stand in parts where they only require below waist shots in various bed scenes with Kate, those I am considering...

Just realised that around then I should be midway through Ramadan (I'm Muslim!). Still plan on coming and doing a bit, but on my registration form I optimistically ticked every box; not sure just how lethargic I'll be after a day without food, so may end up doing less than I signed up for. But all you other lads best bring your A-game, if theres not enough fish for dinner when I break my fast, someones gonna be heading straight back in to get more!! :p

Right then, ferry booking time. I can get a fast ferry from Weymouth to arrive at 0900 on either the Friday or the Saturday morning. Then I can get the fast ferry home at 1930 the following evening. I can only stay one night due to family commitments, so I'm debating whether to come for Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday. I'm a little more tempted to come for the Saturday and Sunday I think. Shame to miss out on the Herm night but I'm doing all this on a very very tight budget so probably can't afford the ferry trip over anyway!

I'll be staying with family, but I'd definitely be up for a night dive if anybody out there fancies it?

If I end up missing the Friday night introduction on Herm, perhaps I could get a phone number or two to find out where you all are on Saturday. You'll spot me pretty easily - I'll be the one on the bicycle with a trailer full of spearfishing gear!

Actually we might be able to change the Herm night because there seems to be 4-5 folk who for one reason or another cant make Friday...I will get back to you ASAP...

Ooh, that would be great. Are you thinking Saturday for the Herm night then?

It's looking most likely that I'll book the early Saturday morning ferry so I can have a day of diving on Saturday, a Saturday night to socialise, the whole Sunday for more diving and then the ferry back on Sunday evening.

We are planning a two day spearfishing competition based around only prime edible fish.
The competition will very likely be about catching as many different fish from the "set species list" as possible over the two days but, with a two fish limit on each species.
As another little twist we will base the specimen weight on the best eating size not the heaviest fish!
However the rules & details are not quite sorted yet.
The low tide on Saturday is at 3.15pm @ 1mt. so we will probably start the comp at 1pm & finish at 5pm so that would give us only two hours to weigh the fish get changed & get to the Herm ferry for 7pm!?
