Dorset Spearfishing 2013

Let us know how the BBQ goes & how you cooked the fish please..
I would be interested to know how long you cooked the fish for & if you thought they were nicely cooked, how did you serve them to people?

All fish filleted, marinated in lemon juice and and crushed chillies from a jar. Wrapped in foil and steamed on a gas BBQ. all but one fillet was cooked to perfection maintaining all it's succulent juices...one fillet I forgot and burned through the foil :(.

Anyways we had a great little gathering of children semi adults and adults feasting on huge fillets of bass and a lobster that I had. Every scrap was eaten; even most of the burnt one was devoured. Fantastic evening ending a perfect day in the sun, beach, rock pools and tombstoning.

Oh...Alan and I decided to have a midnight sight seeing dip in a different part of the bay after the BBQ, we just couldn't resist the 10m vis! We seen some lovely bass...6 fish in the 5-7lb range, lots of schoolies, a few 3-4lbers and a nice 8-9lber. Can't wait to revisit the area.

Popped in for a quicky before I left for home today. Planning another BBQ tonight.

Vis was absolutely stunning!!

Managed 4 beauties, a bit smaller than the ones on the night dive 4.5-6lb range. Left loads of 2-4lb fish to grow bigger.

Fantastic weekend of sun, beaches, BBQ, beer, women and fish! :)

Alan-cheers for the great company and congratulations on your new PB can't wait to see the pics.

In at overcomb on sat night but vis was very poor. Jumped in the car and got in at Redcliff. vis was good osmington way but poor down towards redcliff. Saw a few small bass but nothing to write home about as well as small sole, flounder , gurnard and red mullet. was a nice swim but am just wanting to see and preferably shoot some decent fish! will try again either friday or saturday night if any one is about or maybe a Bill daylight trip?

Had a nice early evening dive with Matt last night. Vis was good but there is still a lack of bigger fish around. Ended up with a couple of ok sized bass, a good mullet and flounder.

Matt went home with a spider crab and a lobster and the knowledge and heart ache of missing a very big bass......I think it will haunt him for a while!

Good to be back in clear water with some fish too!

Headed out to the harbour breakwater on sunday, the outside was like a mullet motorway, with big shoals cruising past every few minutes.

Had the s**t scared out of me by a seal which swam just past my left ear from behind as i was laying on a rock only a few metres down. He hung around for a bit but scared all the fish off, first time ive seen one in dorset.

Swam around to the inside where all the mullet and a few smaller bass were holed up in the rocks.
ended up with a few mullet for the freezer but nothing else:(

Staying in N devon with Alan and the families and friends.

Alan and I nipped off tonight for a quick little bass hunt. Not to bad as it turns out, with the average stamp of bass being 6-8lb with a few double figure ones to keep us busy.

We had 12 mouths to feed for sat nights BBQ; I think we have succeeded.

Smallest fish of the night was just under 6lb, plenty of 5lbers about, but we'd had our quato for the night so left them be.

Hi All,

Long time no posts - but just wanted to share something related to spearing the Dorset coastline.

On calmer days, when I need to take the misses with me to sit on a beach, I've been known to go grab bass at Swanage.

Sunday I was swimming over to Peveril point but took my usual detour along the pier followed by the old pier. I've had some big bass from these spots but a fella shouted at me and said no spearfishing within 500 meters of the new or old pier or the cops will be down to prosecute!

Apparently it's a bylaw that came into effect about 2 years ago.

I'm sure you're all aware of it but just wanted to share in case not.

I think it is a shame too theres so much experience out there and knollage but how many years can some people give ? Some a life time and beyond (OMD) .to give is so much more rewarding than to take .lifes short.live it .
