I have only seen a yellow SeaDoo in use once. The scuba diver it was dragging along seemed to be having a lot of fun but his progress wasn't exactly speedy :) I assumed it would be much better without the drag of the scuba gear but it just feels a bit fragile - a few boat trips would probably have bits falling off.

The Apollo/Dacor models seem to be the best balance of price vs. performance. The Gavin/SS scooters are fantastic pieces of kit but are just so damn pricey.

Pez,

I shot the video with my Olympus 5050 and Inon Wide angle lens/dome port. I am not sure what video editing program Ted is currently using. In the past we have both used movie maker, but I think that he has moved beyond that point by now.

Ash,

I really like my Apollo/Dacor for deeper wreck diving and the extra power, but the grey Seedoo scooter is quite a bit lighter and fun for shallower stuff. I think that I took it down to 75' to buzz a couple of my buddies who were decoing out on our drop line. My Dacor scooter would have got me down there, and further, in less time, but this one still did the trick.

man, I missed out!

Calm water that you don't have to rinse the suits from, viz, gear and good people... huge, throbbing smooth points!

But is it so surprising that Ted, a guy with the perfect porn actor name not be good behind the lens as well??:D

stick this in your porn-pipe, and smoke it

vid #2 (photos and leftovers)

Thanks for the atta's; Jon deserves as much credit as I. He has a gift for reality, and I for 1's and 0's. If the rolls were reversed, and I had to do the camera stuff, and he the computer stuff, the product would look like old people f...., well, you get the idea.

Jon...YOU!!!
A SCUBA friend told me you don't even have to know how to SWIM to SCUBA!
Hmm--Strange...when you're Strange....
Water Rat--who's signed up to try SCUBA anyhow!

Wife and I just got back from Wis. The Wazee dive event happened to take place the weekend before the EAA Airventure Air Show at Oshkosh, Wis., which we had planned to spend a week camping at, so we left a couple of days early to take in Dive Aplooza. What a great time!

Diving was great, and I learned a lot of great and important stuff about freediving. Lots of experience on sight, very helpful.

Glad you guys had fun with the DPV’s. The Grey Supercharged SV Seadoo lets you cover a lot of ground on one breath. If you have a kid that likes to tag along near the surface, the yellow one might be ok for that.

I think the highlight of the diving for me was waiting for the deep diving scuba divers to stop staring at their gauges long enough to notice me waiving at them at 75’. (Lol)

That's very funny indeed, though I find it hard to be just nice and not be flashy towards those aquanauts.

Maybe it's nice to play some hide and seek with them?
Shaking hands is also nice, especially when you're really comfortable and at ease.

Kars.

NCYIFLY,

HI, was that 75 FEET--or 75 METERS??? Welcome to the site. :):):)
Water Rat

Thanx. Been a silent reader.

Make that 75 ft. I consider myself a novice freediver, relatively new to the sport. Although I'm a certified diver, I've been deeper without the tanks, comfy in the 70's, but haven't been much deeper. I think I came across the divers on a decompression stop.

Sounds like a great time! Oshkosh then the Freedive-apalooza... couldn't get much better in my opinion!

75 feet is a very respectable depth! Especially hanging around there for a bit :) Once again, welcome to DB. Hope to dive with you someday!

HI Guys,

I heard that 60 feet is a considerable challenge for an experienced freediver--Soooo--I wouldn't complain about 75 feet, for one who considers himself a NOVICE! I'm assuming NCYIFLY is a Guy!
Aaron--I wouldn't spit on a 5-minute static, especially one done in Competion. I'm still in the 3's--Wet--the 6's--Dry--safer thataway, without spotters! I've never been in Official Competion at all.
OUR TV CHANNELS DON'T GET VANCOUVER--! WAAAAUUUGGGHHH! :(:(:(:(
I wanted to watch my Buddies bust their lungs! Me? I bust MINE at the YMCA, which limits me to 12 feet--for depth-unless I "Gerry Dive"--Empty Lung...but my buddies on Christianfreedivers told me I need more depth experience in REAL depth--before I attempt empty lung. BTW, I'm doing a 25% air in lungs dive, or I was, till the gang started worrying about me--LOL! Anyways, they are--y'all are--good buddies, so I figure I'll take your advice...no matter HOW tempting that Gerry thing is!
The pipe around the bottom is great for holding myself under. I own no weights, or other fancy equipment. Just suit and goggles, and fully loaded lungs! (That doesn't mean Packed!)
Water Rat--who never knows her Wet Times, anymore--the Y's clock is broken!

I practiced empty lung dives at the ymca for the week or two leading up to Freedive-a-palooza. I easily beat my PB by 6 feet and would have gone deeper if we had a better line set up- next year.:D

At the bottom I still had plenty of airin my lungs for equalizing and didn't feel any uncomfortable pressure that would limit me. I am owing all of this to negative packing and diving in the deep end, 12', to practice my equalizations. I learned how to do this in Kirk's course and would highly suggest anyone to take his course, first, before hurting themselves in the pool.

BTW: I am thinking about an October camping/ diving weekend back up at Lake Wazee- any takers?????

OOO.... don’t know much about negative dive, but learned a nasty lesson about exhaling around 25-30 ft - about two days worth of spitting blood, from an internal throat hickey.

I don’t last long at 75’, I’m too outta shape. I can get there quick, linger for a couple of seconds, then head up. My deep dives usually last about 1:00 to 1:15. (According to my dive watch) or 30’ in a few seconds, linger for about 40 secs then back up, about same total dive time. If I sit at the kitchen table, pack, and stare at the clock, lucky to do 2 min.

I'm still not so sure that it was from exhaling on the way up. I am only speculating... and so I say "I think".. I think there are several reasons why this could have happened. Over packing, struggling to equalize, pulling too much air from the lungs to the mouth at depth, using too much air to fill your mask and then exhaling the rest at 35' like you describe. Rapid descent and not being good and warmed up for a 75' dive might have had something to do with it.., If I remember correctly you said it was a very fast dive. I also think it's possible to pack to discomfort but then by doing a surface dive and bending at the waist you cause even more pressure on the air in your lungs. maybe this has something to do with it. I don't think we'll know what really happened. I've had the same thing happen to me, and many others have too.. but in my case I only felt congested/raspy voice and coughed blood for an hour or so. and then was fine.

That reminds me…. Need to get a low volume mask, and chuck this old, low profile, scuba mask.

Sorry about taking over this nice thread for a personal dark note. I think the only things that you mentioned that stand out about that fateful dive are I only made two dives prior, one to 17’ and one to 57’ then dropped to 73’, so not much warm up. I packed, but not a lot, or more than before or since. Thought it was a quick dive, but according to the watch, 30’ in :4, 42’ in 10:, 60 in :20, 73 in :24. I just checked a recent 75’ dive . 32’ in : 2, 54 in :10, 75’ in :18, so I don’t think rapid descent was the cause. Equalizing was easy, little or no squeaking. May have been careless in filling my big mask and I know I exhaled lower than I should have on the way back up, better than usual vis. fooled me, and did little warm up, so I’m thinking that is the culprit. I had no pain just conjestion.?

Thanks for the help.

OK, back to the subject. Did you see Jon is talking about Wazee in late fall? 10/8-11, 10/22-24, work for me. (after I check with my wife) Should have my new fins by then, so won’t have to borrow yours anymore.

Dunno about Lake Wazzie....
How did Vancouver go? I consider myself fortunate to have the YMCA.
HEY! I take what I can GET!! :)
