It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Thanks Tom/Andy, I actually got myself a D3 last week (talk about timing... scuse the pun..)
I get the idea the PC thing isn't worth it. I used to download barograph records after long flights on my paraglider - so the reverse kind of a graph I guess. But they're all buried in a box somewhere now.
Pretty sure that wearing a shiny new (blue) watch will make all the difference to all those fishes that are gonna be dinner... (not!).

Andy where are you going? It's just that we'd better all steer clear, as you seem to attract unnecessary attention!:t

This vid I found on Medfish - [ame=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2257198746079767085&q=swimming+with+great+whites&total=80&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=4]Swimming with a great white shark.[/ame]

Well I'm back ok, got some great footage, though all a bit tame compared to that great white vid!!!!! Will take all night to edit it togther though.

Was someone else in where I was, we flashed torches so I went his way to say hello, presuming it was someone off here, but looked up again to find him naffing off the other way. Fair enough! Anyone know a diver who drives a blue convertable golf?

Sorry Tom - I saw you flash ( as it were) then you disappeared so I assumed you were going in. I saw quite a few sole, all just too small, a small bass in some weed then a decent bass on the sand by the rocks just N. of the pier. Got a shot off but had taken my old Beuchat pneumatic 60 - I'm sure I would have got it with the Mamba. I think they were bass, I haven't seen them in the dark before and I would have said they were pollack by the fins. Perhaps they were?

Were you flashing to guide me in from the car? I still have trouble finding the pier in the dark! If so thanks. I also used your tip and attached the small torch to my mask strap - worked very well. Very high tech - elastic bands courtesy of Gsy Post!

p.s. it's a GTI Rivage - easy to ID next time as I've only seen one other one the island. I could link to the GTI Forum but that would be almost too nerdy!:)

Evening all,

I also just got a D3, from Ebay, £80 still in the box brand new. Only problem was the battery was flat. I got a new battery and seal kit from Apnea and it arrived yesterday wrapped up in an Omer 6.5mm New Master Pro suit! Perfect fit too, surprising as I'm of a typically Guernsey build.

Weather looks good for the weekend so looking forward to trying them both out after a landlocked spell in the UK.

Also good to see others had seen those White Bream. Looking forward to your next video Magpie....

Ed did well tonight. He had as many flats as me except his were slightly bigger (2 sole each), his bass was bigger than mine and he had another bigger bass as well (2 to 1), plus he had more reds than me (3 to 1). Charlie was on his second ever night dive and he managed a couple of reds. Good dive, nice catch, good company.

Dave

PS Leave Master Ed to post a proper glory report.

Colin if you weren't sure what the fish was you seriously need a better torch! Would help you find the pier as well! You need to watch any lights on land regularly, its easy to work out where you are, I was right over by the knife today and knew exactly what way to go to take me straight back to the pier.

Anyway, here's the story of tonights dive:

Very good but cant you turn down the light & I thought I saw the shadow of a big shark following you?
Really nice that you get to use your mums camera mate.

Tom, another great vid. I think you were a lot deeper than me - I'm still playing safe when I go solo and staying in the shallows. Still lots of fun though. I don't have problem generally with orientation by the lights - it's just finding the pier, but I think I've sussed it now. I think having seen your movie it was pollack I saw. I haven't seen them underwater before ( apart from tiddlers) but I think the fins, shape and colour are unmistakeable. The bigger one was a reasonable size - perhaps 3-4 lb.:head

I was up at 5 today because of cats, milkmen, teenagers leaving doors open etc. and I did just for a second think about a sunrise dive. But in the end I thought, nah, and went back to bed until 9!:)

Well yes, the light is a bit too focused for this purpose, had to point it off centre of what I was filming or it just flared out. I'll have to bodge some kind of removeable difuser onto it for future filming. She'd have liked the fact it was stopping me shooting things anyway Mart!

Yes Col, was mostly out in the channel, not deep though, 4-5m.

so you went unarmed then Tom?

Just saw a programme on BBC1 showing fishermen in Sicily catching octopus, scorpion fish etc at night from a shallow boat, using tridents and looking through a glass bottomed thingy. Could save us a lot of trouble?:)

Going to try a half tide up spot to test my camera rig.

Well he looked unarmed if you don't count the spear he poked the cuttle with...

Great vid there Tom!! Did you take anything fishy off camera?

Out in the boat today. The little run of flatfish seems to have died. Did 5 tanks between two of us today for a total of 2 plaice and a sole. No brill, no turbot. Tried inshore banks and bays up north and a bit west. Plenty of bait, mainly small eels, plus some shoals of bream, some massive cuttles and the usual assorted wrasse etc. Nothing on the rods. mackerel seem to have completely gone which is not suprising as it's November but no pollack either. plenty of commercials out and about.Down west marks are covered with trots/nets and saw the local fleet of trawlers heading north just before dark. Several angling boats that had probably been wrecking appeared from the western horizon and past us bound for St Peter Port late in the afternoon.

Perfect tides, great vis, no flatfish. Worst year ever in my 40 years experience. Lots of other feel the same. Some dark talk of big non local trawlers working up to the 3 mile limit. Hope this isn't the end of our stocks.

Dave

Poked the cuttle with my stringer spike, no haven't taken a gun on either of my filming dives, quite happy just watching at the moment.

Evening all,

went in down south this afternoon for a bit. My Mum's birthday lunch today so not much time. Saw loads of mullet again, big ones too and the usual wrasse and bait fish. The main point of the exercise was to try out my new suit. Bloody excellent was the verdict it's an Omer New Master Pro 6.5mm.

Jonny250, I think you were talking about your problems with your suit 'flushing', a suit with a hood makes all the difference. Although I've got a really large head and the hood doesn't fit perfectly, the water isn't that cold, it was so much warmer..

Cheers,

Grob
