nice bass dave hope its now resting well in your belly,
which beuchat gun you using there mate?

Nice one Dave.

PS, I know where they've all gone.

... Dave's fridge?rofl

Andy R, if you had Sky + you'd be able to watch tonight's Nature of Britain and see for sure what salmon look like underwater ( just to be sure!:))

Dave, no flatties?

I met a policeman on my dive this evening!!

He said was worried that I may have been drowning because he saw a light out at sea which kept going under water!!! Anyhow they were on the beach with their searchlights indicating me to get out of the water. I think that he thought he may have made the drugs bust of the year, How do smoke Dover sole? Personally I've always found them hard to lightrofl

Anyhow not a great dive a bit swelly again and viz v average. Came home with one sole of 2.5lbs so not a total blank fish wise.

Nice one Dave. This year I think I have only seen 3-4 Bass.

Andy

Ed and me were out with Dave this evening. I went unarmed but ready to shoot nonetheless...

Reactions: Old Man Dave
hope you did not dive in fancy dress there magpie,
Great vid, one of the best ive seen, was chuckling the whole way throu it,

Hey maggers do you work in IT by chance? :t
Great stuff mate but does that mean you now have a camera?

Nice one Magpie - well done.

Perhaps you should call it "The Shining" ? Very apt to do this the night before All Soles' Day!rofl

The camera was my old girls, so I've requisitioned it, its a normal canon digital camera (A540 iirc) in a housing.

There would have been more and longer footage but the batteries that I thought were brand new clearly weren't...

Was my first time filming, and would probably have been a good idea to try it in daylight first! But in at the dark deep end and it turned out alright.

OMD found the cuttle and waved me over, so I dived down, found it, and got the camera going eventually, but apparently there was another one exactly the same not a foot away. Didn't see it and would have made a good shot to get both.

But it wasn't a great dive, not one flatty seen for a start. Viz was great for the north coast, but thats about all that was good. I managed to lose my mask in the shallows when faffing round with my kit, but not so eagle eyes Ed found it after a breif search, cheers mate!

Good going Magpie for the first time!

Conditions looked quite nice going home along the coast this evening - hopefully the vis will clear up.

I just came across this, which might be interesting for the rod danglers who haven't quite got your casting skills!:)

Rocket Fishing Rod - Gadgetshop

It also incorporates a shotgun type mechanism which fires out the hook, line, and sinkers up to 30 feet.

I think even I can manage that Sarnian!! Good idea though. I recall something like that which used a mortar type launching tube to fire big leads a long way, you just dropped your rig in the mortar, release the line on the reel and away it went. Not sure if it was banned for health, safety and terrorist reasons, seeing as you could put anything in it and send it a few hundred yards...

Retail of $650 is the only price I can find, out at the start of next year.

Thanks for that Foxfish, any idea of the price? It says "won't break the budget" but they may have a different budget to mine.
If you come across anything on the functions of the new Mares freedive computer ( and price when it comes out) could you post a link please.

Torch on charge also. Tried to sneak one in last night, but got tangled up in a parents evening, and I suppose my son's education is more important than a dive.

The D4 looks good but the D3 does everything I want at what would appear to be half the price! (I'm bound to say that having bought one last month)

Aye and the D3 looks nicer with that blue surround.
It looks like the D4 has 3 samples per second whereas (I think) the D3 does only one.
Andy, do you download the data from your D3 or just look at the watch for the info? is it worth getting the PC kit??

I was disappointed by the PC aspect of the D3. I thought it would give you one long dive profile over the 2-3 hours, up down up down, on a graph. But it doesn't. It saves each dive individually so if you do 40 dives you have to download 40 separate files. Far too much hassle, fine for proper freediving but not for simple spearing.

If you do get a d3 you can try my cable/software to see if its something you'd use, you could probably even buy it if you talk nicely, its only a cheapo rip off job from Ebay, works though.

I think the D4 looks nicer myself, but the changes like sample rate going from 1 to 3 a second would make no difference to us I reckon.

I'm charging torch and camera...

I don't have the pc kit and not really that interested, after what Tom just posted am even less interested, thanks Tom. Colin might find one useful though for his pie chart analysis:t (was it Fish pie Colin?)

The only thing it seems to lack is a time in the water function, in the free dive mode anyhow, unless I've missed something in the manual. Other than that its great.
