Guernsey 2007

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Went in for a night dive last night. Couldn't make it with Ed on Tuesday as was on grandson sitting duty. Reports of good vis and loads-a-fish tempted me last night. Unfortunately ears are still not 100% so intended to go shallow. Went north as the wind was strong from the south.

On entering the sea at 10.15 just on dark the swell was rolling in and the vis was crap. The seabed was surging and there was dead weed all over the bottom. Not good. Nearly came out but in the end carried on a bit. saw little but in the end got a sole of 14 inches. must confess although it was plenty big enough I thought it was bigger. Vis was about 10 foot and saw little else. However gave it a good go and came out at 11.30 still with just the one sole.

In the carpark met the deep diving duo of Beardy and George. They had been more adventurous than me going further in distance as well as depth and seen more fish but aparantly none worth taking. Past a few pleasantries and they admired (well scoffed at actually) my pathetic catch.

I went too deep and my ears hurt so more time off me thinks.

Nice one Tom. You'll be able to post the nerdy stats now, which actually are interesting.

STILL waiting on my gun!!!!! Allegedly its still in the UK. They can tell me where it is and can tell Apnea where it is but won't release it to either of us...aaaargh

Apnea have sent me another one, as long as I promise to return one if 2 turn up!!

Weather looks great for weekend....not

Sorry to hear about your ears Dave, well done for staying in though.

Not to rub it in or anything Andy but my watch came from Apnea, I ordered it friday, and despite them saying that it was out of stock but expected more soon, it was here wednesday! Wearing it at work at the moment, saddo that I am.

Yep, I'll stat you up once I've used it and found out if my cheapo bodged pc link cable works or not!

Hello one and all - the one-man-mountain called Hev is moving to New Zealand and is keen to sell some of his kit locally before he goes.

I think that he is looking to sell his gun (75cm one from spearodave) - crab bag - weight belt - knife - torch and a lot of other things...

Anyway if you need anything then drop me a PM and I'll let Hev know....

Best not spend on more stuff when I don't use what I have to full effect...

We've all done it...overdone the enthusiasm and knowingly taken risks that put our health and even our lives at risk.
If you know many divers you're sure to know people with impaired hearing. This could be my brother in the not-too-distant future!
Seriously though folk:'Let's be careful out there!'

Out in the boat today. It was rough. Did I mention it was rough? Well it was rough. Would not have wanted to be out in anything smaller than my 29 footer.

Vis was good in the deeps (70 - 80ft). Lots of fish life but not many flatties yet. Got a few jumbo scallops, one sole and my mate John got a couple of big crabs. Nice day but did I mention it was rough?

Ears were so - so. It's easier to clear on compressed air (scuba) rather than snorkelling so still taking it easy.

It was rough, I saw you out. Spearfish isn't it?? I was on the rocks, did wave to you but... One small pollack and lost a beak, the viz did look fairly good close to the rocks except when the waves were breaking. Was uncomfortable on the rocks so top marks for boating it!!

I asked this dog I saw what the sea was like and he said " ruff!"rofl

Welcome to Sunny Guernsey!

It's like winter!! - just 10C warmer.

What do you think... is this just the prelude to the start of global warming?

A Prayer For This Thread:

"Oh Lord, Please grant this fair island some settled weather,
That we may once more enter your abundant waters,
And shoot things with pointed sticks,
That we may then report such deeds on this forum,
And STOP TALKING SUCH BLONEY NONSENSE!"

Amen.

:) Magpie, I think with that temperament you have just qualified from apprentice old git to old git. Congratulations.

I've been wanting to know how to catch Razorfish and clams for ages now... this might help some of you too.
