Good luck with the Sprog Marcel.

Nice vid Andy, still get more with a fork myself!

If you don't hear from me again you can blame GBO200, we're off free diving this evening if the wind stays off, in preparation for the assault on the Cement Wreck.

We've found some decentish viz lads. Unfortunately its out inside the Great Bank and off St Martins Point.

Back from freediving with George off the back of a boat, which was interesting.

The strong drift and wind meaning the shotline was at 45degrees much of the time made it hard for me to dive in a straight line following it. Did 17m, and had plenty left so could have done more, but time was getting on. Found the Ice a bit soft so would want something more powerful if going below 20m.

George plumeted to the bottom in 34m, but had sinus problems, so the Cement Wreck is delayed for a while.

Welcome to the Club Magpie!rofl
And welcome back Foxfish! You old dog you - barking up the wrong tree though!
Off on a long boys' weekend to France with some other old gits tomorrow night - if the Victor Hugo decides it can cope with 5ft swell! So unfortunately I'll miss the mill pond conditions this weekend:) while improving my numerical skills ( euchre) oenological appreciation, and linguistics ( " encore quatre demis "). I'll try to find an internet cafe to keep up with your news.

A la perchoine!:friday
p.s. yes, good luck to you and the other half Marcel - hope you choose another excellent name

In Dublin at the moment - so not really a dive report unless I make it into the Liffey later this week.... Bouncing between a 'retail park' (hotel) and a 'business park' (work) so am looking forward to reaquainting myself with a beach at the weekend :)

Yes great trip out last night with Tom and his father. Vis was ok considering the amount of crud in the water. I could clearly see Tom hanging on the line at 10m.

Tom did well considering the heavy current and looked at ease. My dive went OK but I have to put extra effort into equalising my sinuses and when I forget, it gets very painful on the descent very quickly. The cement wreck is in range, but I would prefer to enjoy the experience. A few more practise dives to that depth and everything should be OK.

Thanks for the leasons mate, I learnt a lot. It was a new experience for me going out off a boat and floating about in deep water but good fun!

Getting towed back up tide hanging off a rope off the back of the boat was a new one too :) Got to learn to dive in a straight line not a spiral now!

Oh and no fish seen, except for the jelly variety.

You're not missing much Ed, weathers miserable, and isn't supposed to get better any time soon.

Good luck Beardy, we all know you've got the hard job out of the two of you ;)

Gun here at last!!!! Was date stamped 25th May in Jersey!!!

Looks bute, very light. Can't wait to try it.

Years ago I snorkelled on the bank on a low spring. Most sureal experience out in the middle of the russel in 20' of water.

17m is pretty impressive, but 34m!! I tip my hat to you.

George is twitchier than I am about this! - go figure!?

Nothing moving yet. We're B+2 now so every day it's increasingly imminent.

Thanks for all the wishes guys. Much appreciated.

Best wishes to you and your other half, Marcel. Hope it all goes well whenever.

17 metres is a lot deeper than I have ever freedived and a lot deeper than I can as well. Well done Tom.

George I can dive 30+ metres but only with a tank and I don't like being that deep even so. Amazing really when you think the diver who died recently was trying to free ascend from only 29 metres when he suffered a burst lung. Not that that happens unless you're breathing compressed air but still amazes me that you (George) can snorkel that deep. Respect.

Dave

Later in this so called "summer". Mainly to let George gets some dives in to hopefully loosen up his sinuses.

If it happens its being videod and I'll put it up for your viewing pleasure.

My new gun....... Came set up for open muzzle.

Have read some of the threads about open muzzles, sounds though it may be more hassle than the benefit offered.

Before I rig it for closed muzzle does anyone have any advice/thoughts? Anyone use/tried open muzzle?

Andy

Give it a go open and see how you get on.

My longer woodie is open and at first I'd get in a bit of a mess trying to wrap it, now its just as easy, if not easier, than a closed muzzle and you get a better sight picture with the shaft clear.

Andy - definitely go for open muzzle ! At least that's my opinion :)

I first got an open one (pelagos 100) and thought how the heeell does this work but after a day or so I got used to it. It's quite an elegant solution and dead simple when you understand it. Not sure what you bought (will read back pages...) but the principle is the same. It's no hassle really and keeps the shaft firm down to the barrel. You just have to get the tension on the line right if you have no reel (if you have a reel you just wind in a bit) - use a bungie for that - and that's about it.

The benefits are that you get a very clear line of sight - 10,000 Italians can't be wrong :)

Ed
(I use open on the Teak 80 (2006) and the maple/mahoghany 90 (WIP : 2007) will be open... and the mahoghany 107 (maybe 2008) will be open....)

I switched over from 3 guns all with closed muzzles, to an open muzzle gabbiano and haven't looked back since. Went and picked up the new gabbiano snake with a buddy yesterday... very nice looking bit of kit... i want one!

Try the open, you'll be suprised at the clear line of sight.

Huw.

Easy on Tom!!

I'm considering a new gun at the moment to try and get me in the water more, something local though as I won't be wanting the missus to pick up on a parcel arriving!! Any suggestions or second hand ones about? Say about 50 notes?

Nothing other than the fact it sinks which is rather a pain when I drop it. are they supposed to float? It was very cheap.

It also doesn't shoot straight or have autopilot, fish seeking, explosive tipped spears :martial

Just haven't got anything new in a while.

Well I'd suggest you ain't going to get much better for 50 quid. Yes, it should sink when loaded, just, and float when fired.
