I think i saw you out at said place yesterday. First time i've been there, shame about the vis. even so, nice place to dive, great scenery! saw a few mullet, too small to shoot but ended up taking home a nice wrasse. It was swimming along, not just sitting there so i thought i was fair game.

Really struggling to hit anything though. out of pracice, or losing my killers instinct and hesitating... who knows.

Hi sorry a bit of a delayed reply - yes I did see a couple of people, didn't stop to say hello cos I wanted to get over the other side of the causeway. Still saw nowt though - zip, zilch, nichts, de nada ... you get the idea.

Thanks Loops, I had seen that before, it's still argued over sometimes! Nice Trigger Beetroute, there's been some discussion about eating them before, but can't remember where. (OMD?)

Andy & others, I can demonstrate how to prepare most types of fish but it is difficult to explain in text.
Golden greys deserve the best attention because they are well worth the effort to catch & eat. Best treated as with the thick lip in that the lateral line needs removing before cooking.

I've only ever caught trigger fish in the med, years ago. We BBQ'd them and they were delicious, straight on the grill with a bit of lemon. They do have powerful gnashers though, so careful when handling them still alive!

OMD has been bitten numerous times, once we were on my boat & I caught one (two in fact) & even though he had the experience before it still bit him. rofl

ADM, funnily enough I was a bit further along at La Valette in my lunch hour, to see if I had enough time for a quick snorkel with minimum gear. Managed about 25 mins. in with just long johns, but saw nothing at all, also v.poor vis. Better than just swimming in a pool though.

Not familiar with the best tides /places in that area, if anyone would like to PM me.

Conditions look ... variable for the weekend, to say the least!

I think I have had about 7 bass this year! I am so used to my summer months revolving around spearfishing & eating fish?!! What is happening? I am putting on weight, my blood pressure is up, my ears don't hurt!!
Reality? I hope not?

You lucky man! This 'fishing trip' will be my first dive of the year. I hope I make it alive in one piece. I need to convince my other half to live by the sea.

Calling all Guerns!

I'll be heading over for my yearly visit home soon (8th - 21st August). Would love to get in the water (if there's any vis????) with everyone I met last year, Marcel, Dave, Mart and Ed - and anyone else who's up for showing an ex-Guern some nice spots. I'm particulalry keen to do another night dive.

I don't spear but I'll be bringing my camera and housing to get some good pics/video.

I've got Marcel's mobile number from last year - but I expect you'll be busy given the new arrival (congratulations by the way mate!!).
Also got Mart's number if it hasn't changed since last summer.

If anyone's else is up for getting in pm me your number.

PS - can anyone explain how this "reputation" thing works - just seen a few "Reputations received" on my user cp - never noticed those before???

Just prepped the GG up for eating later on, decided to go for a goujon route with my filleting skills really not up to scratch on anything other than Mackerel. Skinned the fillets then removed the copious amount of red flesh to be left with some gorgeous looking pure white strips of fish.

Looks tasty, put a spot of pepper a little salt and some dill on them and returned to fridge til tonight where I will try a quick shallow fry.

Seeing the thing prep'd I should have shot one of the bigger fish in the shoal (which were thick lips) but then if the GG's are that much better...

P.S. weight gutted was 1lb 9oz so well above my rod best GG of 1-10 when it was in one piece.

Hi ADM

Foxy is the Rick Stein of Guernsey, and knows much more than me, but my personal favourite is filleted and meuniere, i.e. coated in seasoned flour and fried in Guernsey butter ( or French). Attached was quite a big one! Having said that, I had already baked my mullet to put in a fish pie, but it was still delicious - even the kids ate it!

Didn't get round to eating it last night as I had a meeting at the pub.

Will have it for lunch today if I remember. I did think of the flour and butter but I don't have any butter (the missus is all health conscious and only let's us have Olivio spread stuff...) so maybe something else will have to do unless I pop in the shop on the way home.

Don't get me into whether natural butter is healthier than chemical - laden spreads! Olivio's probably one of the better ones if it's made with olive oil, which has been proven to be good for you.

Can't get the same taste without cooking in butter though ...

dose the visibulity differ around guernsey from place to place, because went today and it was very poor!

Where did you go dude? Did you see any fish, what state of tide?

I guess most place will be rubbish with the wind and rain, but generally better on the sheltered side I would think.
