beardy241 a.k.a. Nighthawk - at least you weren't on your own but that sounded a bit hairy!

Well it works !

I found the trigger a bit different from the Totemsub ones - not bad or good - just different.

Went out prospecting to new territory and paid off. This was taken on about the 3rd aspetto (was practicing using the new aspetto gun) at about 7m and 1:25.

Saw a very large shoal of grey mullet and thought that there had to be a bass in the mix. Ended up getting a bit fish eyed with all the silver swirling etc but managed to get one at the end. Shot was a bit low but that was probably me as ended up shooting over my right shoulder behind me as the bass went past and I didn't register 'bass' soon enough.

Was diving with Pete and Adam (not Draenog - another Adam) - told them about all the mullet etc but Pete didn't see any. I had another dive and the same thing but no bass - not sure Pete believed me and we were about 10 foot apart ! Anyway he found them on the third dive.

I went off a bit further and found two nice bass on an 8m aspetto but I ran out of puff and they ran off into the murk !

Oh well one is good.

_______

Also - as you can see I have too many guns - anyone want to buy the little Mamba 90 ? PM me ...

Dave, you're really getting into the fancy stuff! What next - fade effects and background music? No gloves? Brrrr! Simple but effective mounting, as you say. I think even I could manage to do something like that.:) Trouble is, my camera is a self-contained waterproof, i.e. no housing, so I'll have to figure out how to mount it. Tripod screw?

Jonny, I didn't get a vid of the mullet because I didn't have the camera running. It's not a dedicated video camera, so only has limited running time, in max. 2 min. bursts. I did get some of some other fish, but I need to edit them down to upload. The file format it uses is ".mov" which seems not to be recognised by any program, even with the camera's own software! My computer defaults to using Quicktime, but it doesn't work very well. Any ideas anyone?

Beardy, I believe it can get really tricky around there, once you get out of the shelter of the rocks. I haven't come across currents by the pier though.

Scottwilson, how on earth did you see enough to shoot it?

p.s. all you clam gatherers, see attached. Next time count the ridges on the shell!

Here's another vid of the Guernsey night dive, my favourite in fact:

Lots of great vids, good stuff boys, like the editing Dave.

To convert MOV's (which are used by the vast majority of digicams) to .AVI or .WMV I used RAD video tools, free and does a great job once you know what settings to use. (PM me if you want to know about the settings, they do make a BIG difference to output size and quality).

Thought I'd have a go at mounting my camera - amazingly I found a bracket from a kids' toy telescope which not only fitted around the barrel of my Mamba, but the screw even fitted the tripod thread on the camera! One advantage of a pneumatic I suppose - I'll just have to hope it doesn't foul the wrap.:) Now we just need some decent weather to try it out!

So do I get an A* Dave?:) (yes, I did make the table too)

MUM! DADDY'S STEALING MY TOY's
now thats something you don't hear every day.
lol. nice work thou, is the camera you our using need no housing sarian?

Great vids.
I have a been thinking about attaching my camera to my Mamba. I'm no good at DIY but I'm gonna have a look for something ready made that will do the job, any suggestions.
I have made a few vids but holding the gun in one hand and camera in other makes things difficult and not great quality.

Just a quick non video related post. Been in for a good session today, yesterday and day before (Friday). Spent some time with the gun-cam but even then have done some serious fishing. Vis has been good, tides have been fine and time of year, my diving ability, all okay. Result - no fish.

Seen a couple of congers, a few wrasse, some pollack and that's about it. I've looked far out in the tide and deep, close in, in the bays and shallow, plus everywhere inbetween. Not seen one flatty. Must have spent 5 or 6 hours looking over the 3 days, covering a lot of ground. It seems very barren out there. bass, what bass? The one in Ed's photo is the only one I've seen in a month.

Must get in the water a bit more, maybe that's the answer. Clocks have changed so soon be able to night dive after work and before tea. Daytime dives look to be weekend only now. Noticed the cold today as well.

No flats, cold - must be getting old.

Dave

i have this same problem, i have also made some videos but again holding the camera in one had and the gun in the other, i have looked around for soemthing ready made but cant find anything that will do the job.

BenFord, yes it's a Pentax Optio WP, (Pentax Optio WP Review) which has now been superceded by a higher resolution model. However, I hadn't realised it's only waterproof for 30 mins, which means I can't keep it underwater with me, but use it then put it in its neoprene case on top of my float.

My son's got an Olympus 770 SW Olympus - µ[mju:] 770 SW

which is also shockproof and crushproof, and doesn't appear to be time-restricted for underwater use. He hasn't had any problems yet, although i believe Andy R has with the same camera, with I suspect a lot more prolonged underwater use.

Both cameras are slim compared to a camera inside a case, although the video facility is secondary and not brilliant quality. However, they do also both only cost around 200 quid.

Dave, what's going on? What happened to the days of 7 bass in one dive?

I dunno - I think it must be part of the waterproof standard, and is probably just to play safe.

cheers for that sarnian, btw its ben, :),
i know what you mean about the bass, a week ago last friday was the last time i saw any bass and they where small and 1 in my normal dive spot but did not havr the heart to kill it that day, since then seen just mullet and wrasse.....

I since checked the Olympus manual, and in fact that one is also only guaranteed for limited immersion, but in that case for 1 hour, and down to 10m.

I dont think it is any secret that the seas are being decimated by overfishing we can only expect smaller catches every year! But it does seem a little sudden from last year to this?
