Wherever you are staying wont be that far as the island is quite small, are you bringing a car? We have a first class bus service - 60p a trip anywhere!
Summer surf is unpredictable but can be good, some spots are positively dangerous but we have easy beach breaks as well.
The break in jonnys pic is fairly safe but a bit unpredictable as the waves change as the tide moves & can offer both right & left handers from the same wave on occasions!

This weather is PANTS!!!! Getting my new boat tomorrow - and it goes straight in the garage where it will stay for some time looking at the forecast....

Rick don’t worry about the Bass or the beer it’s the Guernsey butter and Lobsters that you want. I’ll tell you mate they’re the future.

Who'd have predicted there'd be no height-of-summer Guernsey spearfishing news this year?

I saw clearer water yesterday!! Clearest I have seen since the latest bout of horrid weather. East Coast but not a fishable spot.

One thing we did see was fry and baby eels hitting the surface and the odd flash of large silver coming out of the water. Culprit not ID'd by good sighting as they were all over the place for 30 mins of so but there's little doubt in my mind what it was...

Popped in locally for just over an hour at about 10pm and the vis was actually alot better than when i last went there with Tom - not crystal but definitely fishable. Guess you get used to having ridiculously low expectations...

Saw some small bass and small pollack out in the mouth of the bay and left them be - a tiny hairy spider covered in weed and loads of roselets. Heading back into the shallows I found a min size bass that came onto the stringer (45cm pretty desperate and not great to take them I know) followed closely by two others... Really good to get out and into the sea again.

Just got back from La Rochelle and guess what, this vis was bad down there as well!

Saw these guys at Phare de Baleine on Ile de Ré. He had so much gear it took three of them to cart it down to the beach. I missed him coming out so I don't know if he got anything. When the tide went out it did look 'fishy'.

On the way back on the Condor there was a distinct lack of brown water about.

Well we got a bit of vis at last. After Ed's night dive success I ventured in down west for a day dive this morning. Vis was at worst 6 foot an at best 20 foot with an average 10 to 12 foot. Well fishable if not exactly Guernsey's best.

Not a lot of fish about. Stayed in over 2 hours (it's warm) and saw about 6 bass and 6 mullet plus a couple of big wrasse, some smelt, some sandeels and that was it. Shot 2 bass and a golden grey mullet. Unfortunately the GG broke off and the bass were not huge. My one other shot was a miss on a bigger bass.

Found it was a bit like an early season dive (except the warm bit) in that I found I was rusty and was too slow or spooked the fish by my clumsy technique. This is after all only about my sixth dive in six months and I've hcaught less than a dozen fish so far.

If the vis stays like it is I'll cope (cancel emmigration). However, we've been given false hope before. Currently it's dead neaps and calm. The next big springs and/or big blow could see us back to no vis. Hope not.

No pic's I'm afraid as my daughters nicked my camera and no FOM entry. I'll do better just like I said I would last month - and didn't.

PS Been a good fishy weekend. Had to test my boat yesterday (good excuse) and managed to angle up 60 mackerel and 2 bass .

Well done Dave. I went in west this afternoon and it was definately fishable and, as you say, warm too, D3 said 18 deg!

Saw many mullet, sandeels, small wrasse and a few bass only one of which was big enough and I missed. I had forgotten to put the memory card back in my camera so no pics!

I saw one shoal of mullet and recalled someone saying bass sometimes get in amongst them and sure enough there were a couple in there, never seen that before.

Car is packed for a little foray after work tomorrow....

Well done guys - glad you got in! Viz in Dorset is still poor at the mo, so I was on the kayak with the mackerel feathers. Do you think it would be worth me bringing my kayak on the trip to Guernsey? Would I have access to (potentially) better viz and better spots?

Hay guys went down lancress bay to day after a mate had a couple of rockies mullet and 1 bass yesterday he ses it cleared a little so went to take a look and theres no doubt its clearing i saw bass mollet rockies sand eal it looked real nice all alive.
I know i sound all happy but this is my first year spearin and alltho i fired a few shot and missed every one it was still great.
My friend got his tho 3 rockies 2 mollet and a bass all avared size for the species except bass witch i thought looked a little small but size enough for a feed allso on way in he saw and tried to spear a soul but he was not loaded and was unsucsesfull on the stap alltho he sed it looked a nice size.
any how its lookin a little better so lets hope it lasts.

You have a point, and you also have not risen to my thinly disguised attempt to weasle out some secret offshore bass hole info!! lol
