Didn't go in the boat today although the weather was fine even if the tide would have been screaming. Forgot my scuba buddy was going to London to see Coldplay live.
Took the oportunity to have a second day at the specimen hunt. From yesterday I was on 2 (plaice and sole) and my angling adversary Cobo Boy was on 1 (a GG). I decided to have a go for a flounder. In the UK these fish are very common but in Guernsey they are as rare as hen's teeth. I bet only a handful of Guern's have ever heard of a flounder locally let alone caught one. However, us old gits (thanks Tom) know a thing or two. My brother Derek and I used to catch them in a certain spot, long ago. Since then the fresh water outlet that attracted them has been closed off but a few might still be there. In fact last time I dived spot "X" (3 years ago) I did see a decent flounder which I left.
Passed a few anglers who were speccy hunting for the competition but luckily they were not in my spot. Took me an hour of searching but I did find one. Not the biggest ever at 1lb 7oz but a flounder non the less. 15 minutes later I missed a mullet that would have gone 5lb (speccy size 4lb) and given me another species but never mind it was mission accomplished. Also saw any number of up to 4lb wrasse but not one certain 4.5lb speccy size one.
Took a few pic's for fellow Guern's to show what a flounder looks like (and as proof for the speccy hunt). Round 2 (of 3) is a weekend next month sometime. Fingers crossed for more good diving conditions.
