Thats rubbish news - good memories though, by the sounds of things. Thanks for sharing, I doubt that was easy.

Best wishes

Sorry to hear about your Gran Juan. Reading about her made me smile :)

Condolences to you Juan.

There's something special about grandparents. I love my kids but in some ways I love my grandson even more. The kids are now adults with lives of their own but a grandchild gives you another go so to speak. I did give my offspring the chance to dive but neither of them quite followed in my footsteps (finsteps?). However, my Grandson will not get off so lightly. So I see your circumstances in a light somewhat different to others.

You'll always have a welcome in the Channel Islands mate.

Dave.

Juan I'd give you the warmest hug if I had you within my reach. All my best wishes and thoughts for you.

OMDave your kid is lucky to have a great Grandfather like you. And with that name (Fin) it's likely he will hear the call of the Sea.

Sorry to hear of your loss Spaniard and thanks for sharing some memories - sounds like an ace gran :)

I went in the water this lunchtime; the water has defo dropped a little cooler, but the vis even after all the wind and waves was superb! could see the bottom in 6m although there's a sandy haze.

Only saw a few rockies although some where huge. Also swam in a 'hole' with a cloud of young pollack. great to be back in the sea and to get a few metres of water over me - such a pleasant change from the swimming pool.

Jonny, I thought I was mental fishing in that last night and then I find out you've been swimming in it??!!

Brave man!!

There was zero viz where I was so surprised to hear you found some!!

Jonny, today would of been a perfect opportunity to dive in Vazon bay, not one wind surfer in sight, not one long board surfer in sight (just loads of boats on the BB) & flat calm sea!!

Managed to get in for an hour this afternoon, tried a spot near the knife; vis was not good, best about 4m but generally 2m. had a few nice dives anyway but kept it short as i couldnt find the fish :(
might try again tonite/morning if the wind holds off...

Bit late, but Sorry to hear of your loss Juan, your Gran sound like she was a real star! Take care. Simon

Thanks for all your kind words! We said goodbye to my Granny yesterday in Jersey and I was busy telling all my Crapaud relatives about my mates in Guernsey - you all love each other really...:)

Cheers guys,
Juan

Went for a dip today and was pleased to find it very fishable, vis was a good 4m with just a silty haze. Quite a deep swell running which made it hard to manoeuvre around the rocks withouit getting bumped, but a very enjoyable dive. found a shoal of small pollacks and saw a super sized rocky. all in all very pleasant. thought about going in tonite, but actually i am hopeful for a longer dive off the kayak tomorrow...
no fish, but well worth the dip :)

Well done Jonny, I cant say that I was ever a winter diver.
Derek was very often in around Christmas time looking for crabs for our lunch!
I think my diving was largely based around food & by October I had enough in the freezer to last until spring.
I do find it difficult to except the reality of the present situation but there is no denying the lack of fish is obvious!!
I cant get rid of my morbid obsession to drive the west coast & spot the boats carrying out their daily bass slaughter:head:head:head:head

in again today, a long walk over the rocks north of leehoo; vis was superb with a light offshore wind and no waves. still a fair swell right down to the seabed tho.
this was a new spot for me and it was worth the recce for future, but not much life around today!
hoping for some sun tomorrow and back in with the camera...

Mart i dont think i'd be diving still if i was after food lol. I read on the british spearo forum about 2 guys who worked on their fitness, diving thru the winter, they said it made a big difference for them. Dunno why i like it, not food, not fitness, just beats sitting at my desk i suppose :) Anyway its not cold in yet ;)

No but it's bloney cold out! Keep it up Jonny, best you dive all through the year I reckon, keep us that don't like pneumonia abrest of whats going on down there.
