There's been a lot of talk about the Goliath grouper, formerly always refered to as Jewfish, in recent years. The angling mag's and tv prog's in the UK regularly feature them in their Florida/overseas sections.
There is currently a strict no kill policy on them and supposedly in some areas they have become a real pest. They were fished to very low numbers and many fishermen blamed commercial spearo's who it is said could shoot up to 5 of these monsters per day. I'm sure the spearo's would blame the commercial anglers but whatever the fish were overfished.
Not sure how long the no kill has been in place but people are talking about a limited kill bag now as much to thin them out as for the eating of them. Apparently they are good eating and that's why they were overfished not for trophies but for commercial sale as food.
One of the UK mags recently ran an article saying look what the Yanks can do why can't we do the same for say "bass". Wouldn't be so popular that for us spearo's but imagine if all bass killing was banned for say 5 years and then they allowed it again because bass had become a pest.

Anyone know where the best vis/swell can be found this afternoon? Thinking of going in again. Was thinking Pembroke around big bill etc, or maybe grande roques or bordeaux.
Wind and swell ar both southwest. Any ideas where I will find the best dive with these conditions?

Not had any with eels but had another on crab last night. Only 4-5 this time but plenty big enough for the club. Report in the dangling for spearos thread.
I've had 3 on crab this month, not heard of much on eels yet as the crabs are peeling hard at the moment so I think that's concentrating the bass' effort on the yummy smell of peelers (though all mine have come on softies).

Went in yesterday evening at Rousse. Didn't even bother to take the gun, i couldn't see the footpockets on my fins! Fancied a bit of a dive. On the bottom in the middle of the bay it was so dark, pretty horrible browny black colour. Couldn't really see which way was up! Hopefuly we will get some high pressure settled weather over the next few weeks to clear the vis. Dont think il be going in for a while until its much better.

I usually post on the Dorset thread, but have just found out that I'm being sent over to Guernsey tomorrow (wednesday) to carry out some emergency work for my company. Looks like I am going to have a bit of time on my hands while I am waiting for the ferry back to Poole afterwards, so I 'm gonna take my gear.
Can anyone recommend anywhere on the island that might be ok for a dive tomorrow?
Would appreciate the advice.

It's a Northern Diver Cortex. I've been diving 20 years and all year round but I've never had a dry suit! I though it was about time - a bloke from a diving club in North Wales once said (as I emerged from a 2 degree fresh water quarry in a semi dry) "any fool can be cold". I think he was right!!!! I'm tired of shivering!
