The bass are doing well to avoid the hooks Jonny... I heard only 10 over 4lb for the 120 anglers registered. Tonights weigh in will see the boaty types with some fish hopefully. Poor tides for boat fishing though, the guys I have spoken to are not hopeful off the boats with the small tides.

OMD, there are some the other side of the island again, same place as last year though not many and smaller than the tanks on the east coastl

so, headed in, West; paddled around the back of La Conchee and to the small bay at 'cone rock' where i anchored. vis was stunningly good, especially rewarding considering how windy its been the last few days.
lots of baitfish but no fishy fish. as there was a swell running and being picked-up on the seaward rocks, i decided to up-anchor and drift with the kayak (tethered). This works well when the wind is light like today, and i drifted the length of the conchee back to the causeway. saw a HOG of bass, i think double figures easily, but hopefully it'll come out on the video and you can decide... biggest i've ever seen! [doesn't show on the LR youtube vid :-( ]
paddled accross to the west end of the bay and off the headland and jumped back in, more mooching in the shallows, around the stringweed. finally i was rewarded with a bass, whilst looking at a jellyfish, it swam underneath me! didnt get an immediate shot, but paused, dived and waited, and sure enough he came to find me
swam back in towing the yak, met another dangler who had blanked :-(

Bryn (almostafish) has offered to run a freedving course for us here in Guernsey; its for anyone/everyone and you dont have to be an experienced freediver. Format will be a bit like the Vobster event (see their specific thread) is anyone interested? if so we need to try and come up with some dates for Bryn to work around...
What do you think?

I would be interested in a freedive course. I would also recommend this to anyone freediving or spearfishing here; it would be terrible to lose someone to SWB here.

Check out spidermans story http://forums.deeperblue.com/devon/81472-south-devon-report-2009-a-98.html#post772666 . There but for the grace of God go we all. Last week Tong was run down by a speedboat and now a helicopter rescue. Think I'll stay in the bays.

Yep, Bug is in the water! 27.8 knots straight out the box but I think there is a quite bit more to come once i get the trim & weight distribution right.
We only managed a two minute run outside the harbor but the polythene seems to do exactly what I was told & offered a quite shock free ride.
So I have finished the boat, finished the garden (more party area now) perhaps I can go diving although we just got two new baby house ferrets yesterday & I have already had to dismantle furniture to remove the little devils.

I noticed some interesting little fish swimming in St Sampsons marina, only about 4-5" but loads of them, three types of bream I think?
I am going to take a bit of ground bait down & see if I can get them close enough to identify?

went in today at half tide, around the knife area. the tide was hammering through and my first dive off the kayak was really nervy as i wizzed along.
i decided it might be a bit naughty to stay in so much tide and found one of my regular lee side areas to mooch around in, very pleasant and a couple of bass seen...
moved on a few times, found one area with billions of baitfish, all balling and shoaling, really incredible!
later i stopped at the edge of the tide and watched lots of small fish hunting for food being washed downstream - amazing too!
paddled back uptide for a while and dropped in again, found a bass for tea
paddled some more to warm up and in again, saw a few more bass/mullets, not in range tho.
had an amazing 4 hours paddling, diving and seeing just sooo much, one of my most enjoyable dives so far! shame not more big fish, but the baitfish were stunning, beautiful.
I'll post a vid, but cant move me muscles just now...

I've seen shoals of what I assume are baby bream around Amarreurs, black striped.

Drove along the west coast this afternoon, and it looked really good conditions, glassy smooth in places but the vis could be deceptive... also the rocks by Albecq looked like a good spot, have never dived there but have seen rod danglers there. Unfortunately I was out to a barbie for 6 so had no time, but perhaps tomorrow...

Went out in my boat for the first trip this year. Just a quick angling session, no diving. Went down the point over the high tide to join the weekend armada that congregates there. Fished for an hour and a half for about 30 mack's between 2 of us on the feathers and I managed a nice pollack and a nice John Dory on my bottom rod. Calm (ish) and sunny - nice.
