Sarah and me were in this evening south west after Jonny's bass's mate. Saw loads and loads of schoolies, 1-2lbs, or it may have just been the same shoal following me around! Only one decent fish, a nice 4-5lbs, but rushed the shot and missed it. Can tell I haven't been in for a while.

Saw an old man on the way home.

I was also tempted to go in last night but couldn't, so inspired by Jonny's success I tried tonight NW. Vis was mostly poor, but I saw a couple of reaonable bass in the weed, but gone to quickly to get a shot. Also a decent sized one in open water over the sand just outside the weed bed, keeping his distance, who flicked his enormous tail and was gone!:vangry

I saw loads of spiders and also my first lobster! I dived down for it and as I was reaching suddenly thought -can I remember how to hold them? That hesitation was enough and I fumbled it and he too was gone, shooting away under the rocks and weed.

Never mind, it was a nice sunset swim and there's always the weekend ...

Good to see you Tom (and Mrs Tom). Shock/horror you'd been spearing as well. Haven't seen you about much or even on the other forum, you been busy with the house?

I've had a busy year with not much diving but have been making up for lack of going by making some good catches. Not the last couple of times though. Tonight just the one small bass (2lb) and not much else seen despite a 2 hour swim. At least the little ones taste good not like those old boot 9lb-ers. Not that I'm jealous or anything :vangry.

Yes Dave, bit quiet at the moment, living out of 2 houses, one of which has no internet access, and just generally taking a bit of a back seat on the other side too.

I saw 2 spearos in yesterday Grande Havre area, you were on the surface quite close in. There were fish jumping and swirling about 40 yards north of you... Suspect mullet.

Also nearly ran over a spearo on his pusher as he came out of the carpark at Port Grat. Sorry mate but watching the sea is more interesting...

Oh, and I caught a bass on the rod ) only about 2.5lb so returned to fight another day. First bass since 14th May... Long time.

Was in yesterday with my brother and a friend in the grande rocque area. I was in about two hours and managed this bass. I weighed it and it we flickering from 8.13 to 9. One of my friends got a 6-7lber the day before. Good few fish being landed. Well done on your fish Jonny!

Hey nick and TJ its John Norman, just got an account. cracking bass nick, its got some serious girth. I got one on monday night spinning off my paddle board, just pipped 7lb, towed me along nicely. Managed my first bream this year as well today and a small bass. Think the bream was a fluke though was down roquaine. Anyone know if bream are a regular feature on the west coast?

There are plenty of bream marks just offshore of the west.

I have seen bream while diving in the jap weed beds at L'Eree in the past and anglers have caught large ones round L'Eree at times but not overly consistently.

The areas round Grande Havre and Ladies Bay or the knife are better known for all bream species, black, gilthead and couches.

Afternoon John, there's bream all round the coast but to get the normal blacks consistently you really do need to go deep and long, the few proper shoals I've seen have always held on the edge of visual range on aspettos, they're more wary than bass which come rushing in to see what you are. It's still a little early for the bream to be inshore in proper numebrs though, the Autumn would be far better. Though iirc twas about this time of year Marco that had that 4lber a few years back off the mid west coast but that boy's a fish eh.

There's always the exception now and then like the one ADM saw at L'Eree many years ago though, last time you went diving wasn't it Andy?

Nah, went a few times after that but certainly not been in the water since 2007. Water wasn't clear enough last year and not been this year, you lot aren't reporting seeing anything much so why bother getting wet when I can stay warm and dry. I also have enough fish to eat in the freezer from dangling efforts and spear fishing is rather fatal to the fish.

I need an underwater camera instead. Will have to look into it now I have purchased pretty much all the angling gear I can possibly need.

I've got enough bass in the freezer thanks. And they're easy enough to catch most of the time. (they've just eluded me the last month or so).

Maybe if you start seeing loads of plaice I will be more interested. Better practice holding my breath before I do that though.

FOR SALE: Mamba 90

I need new toys, really need, but funds are low so somethings got to go.

So, for sale, a Seac-Sub Asso 90 based Mamba in great condition. Comes with it's pump, and Magpie's special muzzle buoyancy aid and custom ergo handle grip (both of which are easily removable to return the gun to it's normal spec, but trust me, you won't want to).

It's fully rigged and currently has strips of Omer camo tape applied, though these are also removable, and I also have the spare o-rings and barrel seal.

This gun has far more power than far longer band guns, making it brilliant when mooching around our weedbeds as it's so maneouverable.

Here it is without the muzzle bouyancy or handle additions, with both and a bass and also one of it with a plaice, just for Andy.

250 euro's plus delivery new, but you can have one (with custom made improvements), delivered to your door, for the total bargain of £100.

In again this afternoon. Same area. Saw a couple bass and my brother got a good five pounder. Not a bad first bass on the spear!
Will probably be in again tomorrow. I may go early northeast on the rise from low. It will be interesting to see what the vis is like on the other side as I haven't been in there for a while. Vis at Grande rocque is good on the botom in the deeper areas, but quite patchy in the shallower spots. It is also much better vis with the sun behind you as it doesnt light up all the suspension as badly. It seems to have been getting worse in the poor patches over the last few days too Anyway, Il let you know.

Sounds good Nick, i was in again yesterday too, went back for one of the pollack i left earlier in the week, found a nice one
Also had a shot at a mackerel that came within inches of the gun, but they're well quick...
