You could be right Col ...but I heard it was one of those that play golf on the COMMON!
Talking with one of the guys who pots in Rocquaine he told me that a few crayfish have been caught in the bay over last couple of weeks. I remember when they were being caught in commercial numbers back of Lihou was a hot spot.
Only ever seen an octopus once and that was down at corbiere at the Havre de Bon Repos in the days when we were young and fit and would think nothing of scaling the cliffs with spearing gear and weightbelts!!

As conditions don't look too hopeful for the next few days ( because I'm on hols! :vangry) probably all we can do is read about it - here's an interesting article I came across on the net, for all you wooden gun builders!

Out in the boat today for a dangle and a scuba. Plenty of mackerel about and half an hour was all that was needed to get our target 50 between us. It's easy to get carried away mackerelling and I wonder how many of the "hundreds" some people take are wasted. It was fairly rough out and only half a dozen boats were down the point as compared to the usual 50+ on a sunday morning high tide.
On to diving and tried a few places for some scallops but it was thin pickings.
Wind seemed to come and go but was often gusting force 5. Love my boat in these conditions as it is just so stable and ensures a comfortable day when smaller boats are heading for home.
Moved north but despite some nice dives was nearly fishless. Certainly seems as though there's not much about.
Had been snorkelling twice this week as well and it was a similar story in terms of fish seen or caught. A few smallish bass and a few mullet seen but not too much. Must be night diving tides later in the week/next weekend. Maybe that's the answer. Mustn't complain too much though as fish teas are being eaten and the freezer is filling, abeit slowly.

In again yesterday, not much around, although I was in a bit late for the tide, had pleasant swim nontheless.
A mate I work with had a 21lb turbot on rod and line on Friday evening. He was fishing the bank and they drifted over towards the cement wreck to have a go for conger when he says he thought he had snagged the bottom!!

I've been trying to catch macks off the shore for ages - haven't even had one! :-(
planning to try for some in the kayak, but not sure about taking it around St martins pt... could be a bit naughty...

Saw a kayak at the point 2 weeks ago. Jonny or anyone who wants a couple of hours angling anytime for a few mackerel etc can feel free to contact me. No promises but nearly always can sort something.

They're there Jonny, had macks at the Lace, Fairy Caves and L'Ancresse in the last month. Float and feathers.
Try out from Cobo past Albecq for them in the kayak, or anywhere along the bank off the east coast, don't just get them at the point.

In last night for a couple of hours no bass, but saw lots of small ones again. Managed a GG of 3lbs. The viz was pretty poor and was a long swell as the tide came in over the reef, which seemed to make the bass really skittish, they were darting about all over and never still enough to even get half an aim in.
Hope to get in again tonight, the tide is a bit later so should be more sheltered.

Not a rare Guernsey Sea-Horse?
Could only find one pic, although the poor beast apears to be being attacked by some sort of whale!
I had no idea that GG's were so small, its in the freezer waiting to be eaten, I didnt photo it, but will do and post when I thaw it to eat. I didnt weigh it accurately, just chucked on the kitchen scales in a zip bag for freezing.
In again this evening, talk about being in the washing machine on the spin cycle!! The wind picked up as I went in, big swells and breaking waves and viz down to 2m in places. Saw a few small bass and a couple of real big rockies which got my trigger finger itching. Good fun though.
Saw the most surreal thing a big fat old mullet (thick lipped) on the point of being about to expire. What a mess he could hardly swim, fins were 'worn out' (like a farmed salmon) and the eyeballs were white, also seemed to have green seaweed growing out of its gills (honestly I havn't been drinking) It was a really sad sight.
In again tomorrow. Same time same spot
