hi all
i have just purchased a elios mtm suit and am now selling my previous suit as it is a bit big for me it is a cressi camoskin size 4 it has a few marks on as you would expect but is all good for jumping into the blue with have glued atiny rip on the arm etc will sell £100 onoanyone interested??

Busy, busy, busy. Out in the boat all day with the tanks after last nights spearing session.
Last night first. I like the low tide at dark situation. Unfortunately that is only a couple of days every 2 weeks. However, last night was one of THE days. Low tide at 8pm and dark at 9pm. Just right for some nocturnal bass hunting.
Nice flat calm sea and in at 9.15pm. Neap tide so it was well up the beach despite the low tide. There have been very few bass about in the daytime lately so i was hopeful that they were sneeking in at night to try to avoid me. To cut a long story short there seems to be not a lot about basswise day or night. Only saw 3 schoolies. Oh dear!
Decided to try out a bit around some oyster leases. Aha! Red mullet. First decent one of the year. A vertical head shot and a quick grab and on the stringer it went. Half an hour of careful searching and 2 more joined it. The best one went 1lb 11oz, not a monster but a specimen in terms of red mullet.
Pictures taken for FOM and HOF and fish cleaned and popped in the fridge and it was asleep by midnight.
Up at 7am this morning and scuba gear assemled for a trip out on Spearfish (my boat). Don't do so much scuba now and have only done 3 days this year so far. Have collected a few scallops and a few plaice and sole but the brill and turbot on the offshore banks have not been showing up.
First drop was in 100ft on a small gravel patch. 10 minutes with no luck when right at the end of the bank I spotted a disturbance. 6lb brill. Hooray! First brill of the year.
8 hours later, 3 empty scuba tanks, a somewhat emptier diesel tank and I had my first turbot of the year as well. A few mackerel and a few pollack fell to the rods and a dozen scallops had been added to the flatfish box.
Fish shared out, gear washed, tea eaten, report written. Nearly time for bed.
I love my life.

We have had a few friends over from England for the last week & thanks to Dave they had a great goodbye meal of scallops & brill.
Podge, I am afraid there might not be many figs left next week as there has been a flush of them recently however there will be a very spectacular display of grapes on one vine the other is finished!

Mart everything that you and the lads (and lassies) over there do for us tourists is more than appreciated so if there’s a fig then that’s fine and if there’s not then that’s fine as well.
However if you could turn those Grapes into wine in just 7 days then I’ll not only be impressed but I’ll swap Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc bottle for bottle with you.:fridayroflrofl:friday
thats a decent sized red there Dave. Despite what Foxfish may say I think they are excellent eating.
I was in Friday after work. viz superb 15m+ and no swell. A distinct lack of fish though so took a just under 6lb rockie, which I thought was going to be much bigger. Was in a hole and I could only see the rear half so aimed wher I thought his head was.

Well done Dave! Now to all the bodgers and techie people out there - where can I get a bolt to fit a standard camera tripod thread? I believe it would be a 1/4" Whitworth. M6 is the closest metric, but the thread is different so it just spins around. I'm trying to fix the camera bracket I made for my gun, from a toy telescope bracket (!) - unfortunately the bolt bit ( which by great chance was the right size to screw straight into the camera) as it's now rusted. I haven't yet tried somewhere like Bougourd and Harry, but I suspect I'm not going to find one. Better still, does someone make specialised brackets? I can't believe I'm the first person in the world ever to want to do this!

Andy still some room on the Hall of Fame for big rockies and the more entries in the Fish of the Month the better. Always worth considering.
Colin I had an old camera bolt just lying around which I used for my camera mount, so lucky there. B&H do have whitworth bolts and maybe M&G. Worth looking for brass or stainless. If not the internet is a modern wonder for things like that.

Can you give us a rough indication of where, or at least just a coast? I'd be happy to be in that even if there wasn't a single fish after the way things have been for the last year or two!
Colin you can get cheapo tripods from places like 7 day shop for no more than a quid or two. That'll give you a little camera mount bolt. Obviously that won't be long enugh to tighten the bracket but you could just use a more easily obtainable sized bolt for that and bodge a small extension piece to mount the camera on.

Rocquaine, Northern end of in the thong weed beds, was the good viz. I have 15m of line on my bobber and could clearly see my bobber in the water behind me.
No pictures though, I did a very stupid thing in France. I dropped my camera. Was changing from using my gun to take photos of a huge jellyfish, I was clipping my gun to my float when I dropped it, thinking it was only sinking slowly I'd have plenty of time to clip on the gun and then retreive the camera before it hit the bottom.
Problem was I took my eye of the ball (or camera in this case) for a second and with the combination of swell and poor viz that was it ....gone. 3 hours of searching using grid search, radial search and every other search technique I could think of.... no luck. Only in 2-3m water, but a veritable kelp forest
I have a claim form from my house insurance, so should get a replacement, but am really embarresed at doing such a stupid thing. I have wondered in the past why the camera was not positively bouyant, so if you drop it it will drop upwards, I will make sure that my next one is!! I think it would only need to be very slighty bouyant or else it will be a pain to use.

No shame there Andy - I did that off Portland on the Dorset coast, I thought I had clipped the camera to my smb but clearly didn'y pay enough attention!!

I was boat fishing up near the humps this evening when we spotted a nice sunfish.
I managed to get withing a few feet of it, beautiful creature that was really showing off the reason for its name.
We also had quite a good catch for a change!
Nothing amazing just about 20 pollock & a few giant mackerel but we had most of them on 8lb mono & light spinning rods.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think I'll try for the stainless option first.
( Andy, I did a similar silly thing a few years ago with a nice new-ish Sony Ericsson phone while I was riding a pushbike down the Grange with it clipped to my belt. It fell off and a bus behind me ran over it - both wheels! The insurance claim must have caused some amusement - but better still, the particular model had already been superceded, so for the cost of the excess, I also got an upgrade!)

I went in last night. Just caught the last day with dark and low coinciding. Good conditions at ther moment with neaps and light winds giving clear water.
Suited up at home but when I got to the beach there was an angler right in my spot and I had to go elsewhere. Decided to fish the edge of some rocks in another bay but before I went in I checked the rocks for any tell tale anglers torches and as nothing seen, went in.
There were lots of reds about. Saw about 30 mainly around the pound or just under. Saw 3 bigger ones, one of which I shot. Left all the others to grow a bit. It went 1lb 8oz and kept a sole of 2.5lb company. Saw a few soles around the pound mark as well. Also saw a lobster out for a walk but left him go unmolested. One small bass and a few scad completed the list of fish seen.
However that's not quite the end of my story. At one point swimming on the surface I felt something in the pitch black grabbing my snorkel. Good job my cammo suit includes some brown colour. Turns out to be a mono fishing line angling down from the rocks above into the water.
Never saw the angler(s) and carefully swam over a second line. Avoided shining my torch at them and don't think they even saw me. Couldn't see any of their lights and no harsh words (or even 5oz leads :martial ) came my way.
Unfortunately the anglers had effectively blocked off some of the better fishing areas but a couple of good fish was enough for me and soon it was "time for bed, said Zebadee".

PS After nearly 2 months my ear seems almost healed. Just in time for the DB Guernsey Fish-in :friday.

I actually got in the water last night. Shock Horror!!!!
Even better I saw something. Not long as it was an unplanned swim as it looked nice and had the torch on me (no wetsuit, fins or gun) had the wotsits scarred out of me by a monster mullet which appeared a foot in front of my face in the torchlight. Must have been 9lb easily. Saw a lobster who didn't like torchlight and moved a darn sight faster than me.
And that was it.
I am tempted to go proper soon... Maybe after the bass comp.
