Hedgehogs! Never found any, wondered if they existed over here, now I know.

Have just returned from Vazon, intended to go in from the end of surfer's reef and make my way around towards Richmond end as was looking very fishy and a very low tide. As I was kitting up on the waters edge, a small fishing boat appeared (GU56) and laid mono nets from the edge of the rocks in front of me right across the bay, heading North, in a metre or two of water, they were invisible except for the end bobbers.

As I dekitted I saw a group of swimmers getting changed on the rocks at the North end so went to warn them, they hadn't noticed the nets being laid where they were intending to go. A dog walker then threw a ball in for her black labradors, which landed just in front of the net.

Don't these people have any common sense? It may now be the netting season, but with the extended summer, people are still swimming on this beach.

I spend a lot of time surfing and spishing all of that area. Not impressed.

I'm sure he just wants to catch fish and support himself/family however I say bring on the big kit trashing swells

Hmm interesting find mart! Same as TJ , I've never found them in guern, lots in wales though . Had lobster linguine for dinner made with lobster and Ceps I found myself , as spent the day foraging down gower

how you boys getting on with free diving course ?do let us know how you got on?

As if by magic Martyn! we have been after these for a while!

TERRIFIC TURBOT TRIO FOR DAN AND MIKE !!!!
6.45kgs (14 1/4 lb), 5.7kgs (12.5lbs) and 4,3kgs (app 9.4lb)
Determined efforts finally paid off. Mike S thought he had nailed the 2014 flatfish trophy with superb fish of 4.3kgs and 5.7kgs but Dan blew them out the water with a terrific specimen, and new club record of 6.45kgs. Nice one boys!!!

Those fish are insane! Well done gents!

Sorry to interrupt the fish comparisons. It's me, that U.S. writer who asks you questions every once in a while.

So, a couple questions ( ):

1) It's about smuggling again. I've read and you've said a lot about smuggling in Guernsey's past. But what about smuggling in Sark? I would think that the geography, especially the limited access to the sea, would make that hard to accomplish. Possibly the farming economy might encourage less smuggling, but that's more of a guess. So are there old tales of Sark smugglers?

2) For anywhere in your Channel Islands -- any island -- in any of the land uncovered by low tide, is there any spot where it would be possible to play a friendly game of football? I don't mean something that would meet FIFA standards, or a guarantee of no odd, unfair bounces or chances for a player to slip. But could a group of friends find a reasonably sized relatively flat place where they could pass the time and play without so much trouble that they'd likely give up?

Alternatively, are there any games or sports that are played (by adults) on the uncovered land?

EDIT: All I'm thinking about now is a video I saw in Jersey about the dangers of being caught out in the waters when they suddenly rise. But then, I didn't ask about necessarily wise behavior, did I?

The Boutique cave in Sark was supposed to be used for storing booty!
There are dozens of sandy beaches where football can and is played for a good three hours either side of low water.
