I would say that either a) he's warming up to a deeper dive, or b) he's playing it by ear and doing what he's currently capable of doing and not pushing it by doing what he said he could do. Either way, the guy's a machine.

As far as I understand this is the first of the dives...not THE DIVE. As far as I have read THE DIVE will take place on Saturday 16th which is meant to be broadcast live (according to the info advertised)...so these are just "warm up" official dives 
... I am under the impression that we'll see some variable WR attempt in the comming days.

Unfortunately the World record set today by Herbert has NOT been ratified by AIDA, so far.
Due to a technical fault on one of the Cameras the attempt has not yet been validated (although the AIDA board are in discussion about it...)
As you can expect I cannot discuss the problem until the final decision is made, but Herbert did dive at 2pm (12:00 GMT) to a record depth of -185m.
He slowed the sled at 26meters taking 18seconds to reach 34meters.
From then on it was full speed all the way, hitting 101m in 1min 01sec!
He touched down 185m in an awe inspiring 1min 40. It took only 3 seconds (going by his 2nd D9) before he started ascending. At first he was travelling at 1m/s until 170meters where the counter weight sped him to over 3m/s.

He was slowed to a more gentle pace of 2m/s at 54m by the motorized counterweight.
The brake was shallow at 11m, (-11m 3min 02) but Herbert performed a decompression stop of 30seconds at that depth, before coming slowly to the surface. (Another 30seconds) making a total dive time of 4minutes 07seconds.
He performed his surface protocol easily under my instruction, removing both his hood and “Liquid Vision Glasses” TM. (LVG) before giving the OK sign and saying it well under 15seconds. Immediately after the 30seconds window allowed in the new AIDA rules, he took oxygen and went down to decompress at a depth of 9m for 10minutes.

This is the profile from my D9 (not an official computer)
Herbert wears 2 D9s around his neck for alarms...
As you can see it is 2 meters short, this is due to his feet (and the bottom of the sled) being 2 meters lower than his head!
I have set the reading to the point of touchdown... you can get other times from my last post...
