Hyperfin from Triton equipment

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Dear friends,
In attached you can see a fin sent to DD. Fin is a good quality, black, soft, tested by me in the swimming pool with big footpockets to wear with socks as she wanted. I sent to DD emails with all descriptions of the fin and told that blue rubber is better for footpockets. I answer all time. Maybe some problems with my server. Anyway, dear DD I am open for any claims, discussion etc. of received fin. I offer full support to all my customers.

I'll step in here to with a different perspective.
He has been absolutely fantastic with support and the fin he made for me has held up very well - despite some pretty unusual abuse.

My fin, for example, is routinely subjected to Chlorine, extreme temperatures in the sub -0 F range (including freezing solid while wet) baggage handlers and, in the bahamas, salt and sun. I cannot tell you how many times I've taken it from single digit (F) temperatures directly into an 83F pool and back again.

The fin's performance is simply superb. In the Bahamas it took me twice as deep as I'd ever been in my life - easily!

Max has given me great advice and instructions for both monofin technique and for the small and routine repairs I've made to the fin.

The longest he has ever taken to reply to me is 12 hours. Often, If I email him first thing in the morning, he has replied within minutes.

I've checked out the Waterway Glide - which also looks like an excellent fin, but I do not see where it is superior. Near as I can tell all these hand-made fins fins require a little maintenance and careful handling. ( I have stories about waterway, leaderfins, specialfins and hyperfins)

Apnea Queen - as regards fit - My fin is made to accomodate 5 mil socks - but its not easy! These things are supposed to fit as tightly as possible or they lose efficiency - it took month's for my feet to adapt and you must always use lube and my socks are smoothskin neoprene on the outside. Nylon out 5 mils socks were a nightmare.

For example - Will Trubridge's custom Waterway is two sizes SMALLER than his normal size so that, as he puts it 'he can feel the water'.

A side note THE BLADE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A MEDIUM FIRMNESS NOT SOFT! I guess it's the endless confusion and miscommunications that are the most unsettling and the thought that it's more important to defend yourself instead of just doing it right the first time also there were parts where the biege rubber meets the black rubber on top of the wings THAT WEREN"T EVEN GLUED DOWN! The training group in Kona were amazed at the fact that to get a black someone thought it was ok to use spray paint,Waterway's doesn't.
Oh well i'm done with all this foolishness.

AQ, can you post a photo of the hyperfin you received? And the issues you've identified?

If something wasn't glued properly (or became unglued, which can happen to any fin, btw), it could be a simple fix or something major to be fixed.

Laminar you can see from the post Max made has a photo of my monofin and although it's hard to see on the left side of the left footpocket the biege rubber is not glued down that came that way not thru use but brand and I have since glued it down AQ-DD

It is now 1 week since I posted this thread on Max Moroz and Triton, after all the replies and Max's reply I sent him 1 e-mail each to the 4 listed e-mail addresses and to date have not had a reply,so I believe that actions speak louder than words and if you want to defend yourself you had better have something to offer in resolution.Again my next monofin will be a Waterway's Glide.DeeDee

Dear DeeDee,
Your last email I received from you was on the 19th of February and I answered. I think you tell not truth and promote fins of our competitors or have some problems with your emails. If you cant reach me by email, you can write me by skype: maksymmoroz or icq: 239922402 or even call by tel. + 38 050 358 85 25 (9 a.m.-6 p.m. GMT weekdays). All my contact information is open and available on my website: www.finswimming.net if you really want to solve this problem, not just talking.

I Called Max at Triton today and we agreed that the best course is to return the monofin to him and recieve a refund for it. to this end i believed he handled the situation well and both of us are satisfied we have spoke and are clear with each other. As with all small business owners i wish him well and chock up the experience as something we both can learn from Best Wishes to Max and Triton DeeDee

glad to hear its all resolved shame about the miss communiction.

on another note (and i'm going to get shot for this) i tried a friends HYPER (Brand) Hyperfin last weekend and although a VERY nice fin (to me the blade felt almost identical to my triton both in and out of the water) i found the triton foot pockets to be much better at transfuring power, both footpockets are the same size.

the triton pocket is much heavier and has alot more rubber which holds the feet much more securely really allowing power to be transfured perfectly, i found that the top of the Hyper (brand) pockets flexed too much during the down stroke and the power transfur to the blade was delayed quite a bit until the base of the pocket and blade caught up to the top part of the pocket, felt like the tops of the pockets were stretching a good 5-10mm every stroke before any power was released to the blade.

just my opnion. basically what i am saying is that i have just compared what is considered to be one of the BEST monofins on the market with one of Max's fins and in my opinion Max's fin was superior. the Hyper (brand) has a beautiful blade but i really think the foot pockets let it down the Triton footpocket releases energy MUCH better and holds the feet much more securely.

To the owner of the HYPER (you know who you are) dont take it personally. not to mention the fact that the owner of this fin doubles my PB in dynamic on a regular bases with his HYPER (brand) fin. so it just shows why so many different fins exist because everyone has their idea of the perfect fin.

Just got a shipment of four fins from Max. (for four people - not just me!)
All seem to be very solid. I took mine to the pool. The footpocket is a size smaller than my other Triton - Blade is also smaller. Interestingly it seems more efficient - Same # of kicks per 50m - but faster and less tired. The smaller footpocket was not bad - I managed 40 minutes no problem with a 1.5 mil sock.

In order of appearance : Alicia (Gera on DB), Me, Claire and Jon

The fin definitely rocks. I think the smaller footpockets help with force transmission and the blade seems a bit firmer than my other one.

Max does excellent work. Alicia and Claire's fins are both perfect fits - Jon's has footpockets the same size as my first Triton - Should be very comfortable even with 5 or 6 mils socks.

What's the advantage of the wavy edge?
Do the fins have heal support?

I like the light colours too, are there choices in this?

Kars

Hi Kars,

Max uses a variety of fiberglass and other materials, you could talk with him about what you'd like - (just make sure he knows you don't want him to paint the blade!!) I like the look of the white footpockets on Jon's fin.

No heel support on these. You know - I wonder if a rigid piece running through the footpocket and attached to the blade - running under the heel - would help with force transmission on the downstroke... I bet it would leverage the foot better - taking strain off the arch.

I don't know if the wavy edge has an advantage or not - if anything I would guess it helps with lateral stability. We just thought it looked cool :)

the first fin looks identical to mine... not as sexy as the rest but after trying the Hyperfins Hyper mono i couldnt be happier (... except if it had a wavy edge...) :)

My first fin looks like that too - except a different Lamination and HUGE footpockets. I just had it out today. It has survived some fairly intense abuse - radical violent temperature changes - getting frozen while wet etc. I recommend everyone take better care of your fin than I have! I've had to make some repairs - mostly due to ice damage I think.

I got my fin a couple of hours ago and just returned from the pool.

I really like the feel of this mono compared to my (7) previous ones. The angle is great and the footpockets seem to transfer power really well- at least better than anything I've owned to date.

I tried it on barefoot, with 3mm socks, 5mm socks, smooth skin out socks, nylon out socks, with dry foot pockets, wet foot pockets, and silicone sprayed foot pockets. Some configurations caused my feet to cramp pretty bad and others felt great even after many laps. I'm thinking 3mm smooth skin out socks for most diving and a pair of 5mm smooth skin out socks for winter- with a generous coat of silicone sprayed in first. The silicone spray that I'm using is water based and purchased through a dive shop.

Now the bad. I'm pretty concerned about the durability of this fin. After only an hour in the pool the entire right toe pocket has separated from the fin blade already. It didn't come with any glue and I'm not sure what type would be the best to use to glue it back together. I'm open to suggestions and would prefer something that I could buy locally- like today! Ordering glue is fine, but I plan on using this fin tomorrow, and the next day, and the next and.......

Hi Jon

unfortunately a common problem with a lot of hand built fins from Ukraine or Russia, particularly in pool and warmer waters, mine did it after about a week as well. i used Loctite 406 if i recall correctly which is available at pretty much any hardware store and i havent had the problem since. if youn search the the forum for how to glue fottpockets there will prob be a couple of other options as well.
