the competition was working fine today and apperently they had a big problem with blackouts. it was like 6 blackouts - and that is maybe what is expected but apperently a couple of them where major..
juliana from the states blacked out and that leaves a open spot and medal chance for the swedish ladys team - they are really really strong since training in dahab.

timo made his dive today and i saw the rest of the team sitting at the beackbar with lots and lots of beer. also the finns are diving WITHOUT suits. when a swedish freediver asked them "is it to hot in the water for diving with suits for finnish people" he got "yes a little" as an answer.

I heard that n the dynamics pool you had to swim 1 meters left , then make a sharp right for 33 meters then a u-turn and then continu to the turningpoint right (not left !!).
O and the depth of the pool varias from 5 cm at the start to 3 meters at the first turn.
(Or was it left and then right , i don't remember, should check again with the organisers)

No it is not. the statics pool is a small rectangular 20m pool. the other day i measured it to be 34 degrees after sundown in the water.

the dynamics pool i dont even want to talk about...

The Czech team is really strong. I think Petr (V) will swim 150+. In Hungary not so long ago he could do that (and won the competition!).

Well, I had to read the Czech version to verify what I read in English (the article was not written by Martin, but by Pavlina). So for those who were confused with the text, it tells that Martin caught a cold (she writes chill), so having problems with equalizing. After she writes about judges measuring chokers - I really did not know what she meant, but from the Czech version I see she spoke about lanyards. Is 'choker' lanyard in US freediving slang?

Otherwise, Guillaume Nery, has reports from Hurghada on his website too. See the News section on his website (unfortunately, direct link is impossible due to the way the website is done in Flash). It is in French, but unlike with Czech, you can easily let it translate by Google or Babelfish/Altavista translation - the result is rather comprehensible.

i did my dive today and it was fine. for the moment i'm the deepest girl, but natalia and mandy announced respectively 81 and 75.
the other italian girls are diving tomorrow morning.
giacomo is also diving tomorrow...but unfortunately is sitting here next to me with a bad cold and a serious sinus congestion. and he's threatening to infect the rest of us!

sorry, i don't have much time for updating, i'll try to post tomorrow with the results.

Thanks dude. Yep - the Kershkov is history, nice 12 inch gash up the middle thanks to a f*cked up pool. 400 euro down the toilet along with the rest of the cash I forked out to come here....

The pool is the worst i've ever seen (that earlier photo was the nice pool at the hotel). It's salt water so it's extremely buoyant and thick like swimming through soup. My 33m laps usually take 13 kicks but I was averaging 19-20 in this pool. It's 16 degrees in the morning and 18 in the afternoon and feels incredibly cold. My bugbear is the ends don't have corners, the have a slope so you can't actually see the end of the pool. My fin would have been fine if it was a normal pool end but because of the slope it was put under a lot more pressure on the turn. It also means that you can't stand at the end of the pool because you keep sliding under. It's an absolute joke, you'd expect more for a world cup.

Anyway I complained with a few others at tonight's meeting and they said there's a 50m pool with proper ends somewhere else that we can try. God only knows why we didn't go to that one first......

In the meantime the Russian coach has generously offered me a couple of fins to try, big thanks to him for that. Though I must say the thought of doing a 52m dive with a untested fin doesn't sit well with me.
